I stared up in awe at the huge building that held me in. So...this was where Daddy went with his human once in a while. It was certainly frightening. And all those smells! And the different dogs! Some were as big as a dog house! Others were about as small as me, and then there were those that were like Daddy! But the noise was too much! So much babble from the humans, and so much talking from the other dogs. I began to whimper a little, unsure of what to do.

"Sunset," His voice rang out like a beacon to me. "come here. Don't get lost now." I quickly scampered over to my father, giving a large grin. "Wow! Dad, this place is amazing! I'm glad I could come with you!" He smiled at me. "I'm glad too. Now, sit here. I have to take care of some things." With a gentle lick and a commanding eye, he left me sitting near some other dogs. I couldn't help but notice them...they were dull and dark...and I...well wasn't. I felt like an oddball, so I scrunched up to try and make myself appear invisible...

"Hey, who are you?"

Too late. One of the dogs spotted me. It was a brown Cocker Spaniel, slightly bigger than me. "Hey, who are you?" She repeated the question. "You look like you lost, tomato!" She laughed at me, her friends joined here. There was a tan Chow-Chow to her left and a Black Lab to her right. The lab began to laugh. "Hey, she's not natural. I bet her mom's part bird or something." The other two chimed in. "Yeah!" Chow-Chow cut in. "And her dad's like...like...a..." He scrunched up his nose trying to think. He didn't seem like a bright dog...

"Leave me alone!" I growled. "I like my pelt! I certainly stand out more than you three!" I stuck my nose in the air, tail held high. Dad and Mom always said to stick up for myself. Just because I was the youngest didn't mean these three had to push me around.

"Oh, so you think you're bad now? Huh freak?" All three dogs growled at me, and I just growled back. "No, I'm not bad! I'm super bad! I'm cooler than cool! I'm the best dog you've ever seen! And I'm sure as heck prettier and smarter than you three!" I retorted, yapping my head off. This gained attention from some dogs and humans, and eventually my dad. He strode over as commanding as ever. "Sunset, what do you think you're doing?" I tried to talk, but he cut me of looking over at the three bully dogs. Boy, they were as quiet as ever! I stood up proud next to my daddy, wagging my tail and beaming just like sunshine. "Are you three bothering my little one?" He seemed like he was holding back a growl. "N-No, Sir!" The cocker whimpered. "We were just asking her about her coat!" "Yeah! We really really like it!" All three dogs nodded quickly before scampering away.

Then, Dad looked back at me, a worried look on his face. "Sunset, did they really bother you about your coat?"

"Yeah, Dad. But," I began quickly. "I love the way I look. I wouldn't change any of it for the world!" I yipped and jumped up to try and bite at his nose. He growled at me playfully as he began to play a little. Dad suddenly stopped, looking over to his human. "Well, Sunset, that's my cue. Be a good girl, and wait here. Daddy won't take long. These guys aren't up to my level!" And with a smiled that I loved so much, my father trotted into the ring, a born winner...just like me!
