How do you pronounce Hrithik? XD
I must admit I am stuck on how to pronounce this name and have not heard it spoken aloud. Is this a common name? What does it mean?
Also, to keep this to Hindi help, I need some advice. I am meeting some people from India I have never met before. I am totally American. Is it ok for me to say Namaste? Or since this is an older respected person should I say Namaskar? Or does it depend on where they are from in India as to how they would prefer to be greeted? Also, I see Indians shaking hands in Bollywood movies, is this a cultural norm?
Thank you.
smile You pronounce Hrithik as: "rith-ik" For whatever reason, you don't say the 'h'... I had quite the embarrassing time when I first tried to say his name! Thank goodness my friend set me right!
razz (Sorry, other than how to pronunce it, I don't have any more insight on what it means or anything.)
And I'm afraid I can't help on the other cultural stuff... although I am pretty sure safe in saying this--they only shake hands because it's a British thing, you know? It just kind of adapted into their culture since the British, being their nice British selves, decided to, you know, take over India. Because they didn't have a flag.
