So... I got accepted into my study abroad program of choice. This August, the 28th or the 29th, I will be FLYING TO OSAKA, JAPAN. I will be there until just before Christmas. (By "just before," I mean a matter of days. XD)

OH MY GOD!

I'M GOING TO JAPAN!

And and and I'll be sure to go to Nara and take photos of the evil deer, which my friend has warned me not to feed or they will scarily chase after you. ^^v

KYA~~~~~!

OH MY GOD. ラアアアアアキ!(Luckyyyyy!)

You will link me to this blog. I would love to see it.

By the way, to satisfy the aspiring lingist/interpreter side in me, could you give a brief rundown on Osakan dialect もらえませんか?

(Also, would you care to give me tips on how to enter a study-abroad program? Thanks.)

I just realized. You'll pretty much be in Japan during my 1st semester of Senior year. Since, I start school usually around the last week of August, and start second semester in late January.)

Ten: XD It amuses me that this spurned a plotbunny. Nice, very nice.
Thanks. XD And I will take loads of pics. ^o^ No worries~ ♥

Sanee: XD Ye-es, I'll go to Japan a couple of weeks after your term begins and come back a couple of weeks before it ends.
I will link the blog when I create it. ^^ It's still months away, so atm, I don't have it made. XD
Uhhh... I would give you a run-down if I knew it, but I totally don't. XD I only know that instead of negating verbs with ~nai, they use ~hen. And instead of "arigatou" they say "ookini." That is the extent of my Osaka-ben. ^^;
Ummm... ^_^; When you get to college, there should be a study abroad department. You just go there and talk to someone, and they'll tell you about the programs they have. I can't really say anything else because different colleges do study abroad differently, and offer different programs. ^_^;;;

SN: Iiiiinteresting. I also heard that their dialect involes substituting the 's' sound with 'h', unless referring to a name that begins with 's'. I'm not sure though.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 02, 2008 12:07 am

Really? I had never heard that. XD I know in Kansai-ben they pronounce S's, and Osaka-ben is just a subdivision of Kansai-ben... after all, their name-- Osaka and Kansai both-- contain S's. XD;; And I know in music at least, they use s's... "Sora yoitokko sassa no yoi sassa! Haa enya korase no dokkoise~ Haa enya korase no dokkoise~"

(That's what I get from gathering my cultural knowledge from watching the Japanese version of Naruto. <--mega fail)

By the way, awesome kimono.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 03, 2008 6:42 pm

(It's okay. XD I learned my first Japanese from Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon. ^^v)

Thank you! biggrin My best friend has been actually buying things from Gaia, and she got the tonbo ("dragonfly") kimono. But her av's a boy and the kimono didn't look right on him so she gave it to me. So I sold it, waited a bit for the price for a tsuru ("crane") kimono to drop, and bought it. ♥ If only I really had a tsuru kimono! Or a kiku ("chrysanthemum") kimono~~~ ahhh~~~

edit: As far as I know, Gaia doesn't have a kiku kimono. XD I've seen one on eBay before, though. ^^; It was also black and purple!

(Yeah, I saw the kiku kimono in the UTOTO thread. It was pretty.Though, what gets me is that I probably wouldn't be able to fit in one, and that they're so impractical. I'm betting that they don't provide much mobility, and the geta/whatever those shoes are called that come with the kimono must not be very comfortable to walk in.)
PostPosted: Sat Jun 07, 2008 9:32 pm

I haven't seen the kiku kimono, but I love the furisode kimonos with the really pretty colors and long, long sleeves, and really huge obis like maiko wear. Though, even if I could squeeze my fat butt into a kimono, I'd probably trip over the long sleeves or do something else equally stupid. I'm just soo not elegant or graceful: combine my talent for clumsiness with challenging clothing and you get a falling, tumbling, stumbling, crashing catastrophe. Oh well, I can at least think they're pretty! 3nodding

Sanee: Yep, kimono are pretty impractical. But I don't think they're THAT uncomfortable. It's a b***h trying to go up stairs in them, though. ^^; This Thursday, I have to wear a gold-and-white glittery kimono with some dark red and blue hakama for a show. ^_^;;; And I actually think it's comfortable. When I can breathe.

Tenten: Oh, uh... "kiku" is just referencing the decoration. ^^; Not a style of kimono. So you could have a kiku furisode. biggrin I am not remotely elegant or graceful, either, but I don't necessarily fall on my a** walking in one. However, I will be wearing one on a hot stage in bright light in front of people without my glasses, so... yeah, I may fall on my a** then. -_-;
PostPosted: Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:28 pm

You're kimono sounds pretty! Have fun on stage. A kiku furisonde sounds pretty. Trust me, I would fall flat on my a** walking in one. Or even just standing in one- I'm a walking disaster just waiting to happen. Things just happen to me; if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all lol. But I hope ya don't fall on your arse at your show.

xD I don't think you'd fall on your a**. The obi tied so tightly makes you stay upright pretty well-- it forces perfect posture, in a way. ^^;

How do you work with delicate, dangerous chemicals if you're clutzy? xD
