There was too much to do, and he'd managed to finally get out from under the watchful paw of Vander, so the world was spread out under his feet and at the tip of his nose. There was so much to see, and his small paws just couldn't carry him fast enough as he darted along the sidewalk and between the legs of strangers. People were very large, and he was very small; so of course there was always the threat of a shoe coming down carelessly. Silly creatures, they just didn't hardly ever watch where they were going.
When eventually the sidewalk gave way to the plush greenery of grass, real grass! Imagine that! Yahzi found himself in a small park and there were squirrels to chase, too fast for him though, scurrying little frisky things. He almost bumped his skull right into a tree trying to engage one of them in a game of tag, but the squirrel just didn't seem to want to play.
What a disappointment.
But there was the fountain in the midst of the pathway in the grass, just perfect for hauling his front paws up to peer over the side. He could see himself looking back and pulled up onto the narrow ledge, wandering back and forth as the mirror before him did just the opposite. And if he leaned in just a bit more he could scent the water, could almost touch it with his nose tip. Just a bit more....closer...closer.
Then splash and sputter when he fell into the cool water with a startled yelp.

[/img] Zaven had been playing with his son at the same he was trying to keep him clean. Zaven was perfect and his son was only nearly perfect. Kwame seemed to love the dirt and rolling in it. Much like a dog even though the rest of him was completely feline physically and mentally. It had been a rather uneventfully day till a little pup began chasing squirrels around. Zaven was not worried it was too small to cause trouble for him or his son, but it seemed to be big enough to cause trouble for himself. Zaven gasped as the pup fell in and as much as he hated water Zaven couldn't just leave the poor little pup. Hopping to the ledge with a the grace of an acrobat Zaven lent a paw to the pup hoping he would not get dragging into the water. Kwame followed his father with a mew of question over what was happening. Kwame waited at the bottom of the fountain's edge though he didn't mind the water that much he was certainly not about to risk a swim.

He certainly hadn't expected a cat to come to his rescue, he had barely been around felines at all so he wasn't so sure what to make of them yet. Though it was a step in the positive direction, meeting one that was willing to lend him some aid. Even if it wasn't too overly helpful, and a clumsy effort on his own part even taking it; but he was grateful.
Half dragging himself back up, no purchase for his paws against the slick fountain, he yelped with the cat's claws against his scruffy fur but the tug helped him haul up enough to pitch back over the wall and tumble out into the grass on the far side. Nose to the dirt he landed, coughing and wheezing and rolling around trying to rid himself of the water with a shake and toss of his head from side to side.
Then he grew tired from all that work and slumped down, still catching his breath and letting the sun above dry out his soaked pelt. With some work Yahzi tipped his head towards his rescuer and coughed, then managed a lopsided smile stretched over his small maw.
"Ah, thank you; water's very cold, and wet," he mused while still shaking the damp feeling from his paws and testing them against the grass to see if his body was sound enough to stand once more. He discovered that it was and flopped down to sit, looking Zaven over and perking his ears a bit forward with a puppy decree that was overstatement of the obvious but he was still quite young and prone to saying such silly things. "You're one of those small, different smelling creatures. I haven't met many like you before, except one mean one that took a swipe at my nose and steals things off the back steps of home." It made perfect sense to him, the statement; hopefully Zaven would be able to make some sense out of it as well.

Kwame hissed as the pup hit the ground skittering quickly to a near by bush for cover. From his hiding stop in the shadows he let out a growl the rolled like cat's often make in response when threatened by something like a dog. While the pup maybe little it was still larger then Kwame.
Zaven jumped the the ground and licked what water the pup had managed to get on him off. Looking towards his son he rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Kwame this is just a dog kit, no need to fear unless it's parents show up unhappy. Spot acting so silly and get over here."
Zaven then looked back to the pup with a raised brow. Amusement crept upon the cat's lips as he understood what the little one had said.
"You're welcome little one, dog or not everyone should be handed a paw if they are in need. We are called felines or cats and we might not swipe at dogs as much if they didn't insist on chasing us all the time."
Zaven's voice wasn't harsh it was more mocking. He knew that the pup was to young to understand the foes cats and dogs normally had to be. Perhaps this one would grow to like cats in a way that did not be barking at and chasing.
"At any rate. Why are you alone? And shouldn't you be more careful? You could have drowned you know."
Sounding a little more stern now, Zaven took a look around. There were no adult dogs around and by the scent were not close by either. He looked once more to the pup starting to wonder if he was an orphan. What would Zaven do if the pup was an orphan? Look for an adult dog to take him in? Or had the pup snuck away from his family, Zaven certainly could not leave the pup a lone, but how could he take the pup to his family where the parents might try to eat Zaven and his son.
