So lets try this! I'm sure some of us have a lot of crazy ideas and what not in our lil head swimming around so: What would you differently in the series? We obviously have the who should be with who. Now: Owens death *would you have killed him off? If yes...how so? or leave as is...* Idk anything you could think of...I'm still oblivious as to if there is going to be a season 3, (but lets just pretend there is for my sake) maybe a lil more about Ianto's personal life *what kind of personal O_O, that would be nice to know!* but maybe in season 3? Yes please! enough of my rambling what about you! ???

they shouldve killed off gwen not tosh..but then again gwen and rhys are cute together. it would be really cute if they had a child in the third series. they shouldnt have killed of tosh and owen...i wanted to see more of their relashonship develope..they wouldve been really cute together. and the thing that sux is owen never knew tosh was dying...she shouldve told him.. owen should come back in the third series. they shouldve killed off john or something..i mean he wasnt really a main character..only showed up in like three episodes. so yeah thats my opinion.

The thing about Tosh is she's a character we need on TV. Warning, I'm about to go all feminist on you, but there it is. Tosh is a strong female character, who empowers women. She's a character that girls can look up to.
Gwen is a typical damsel in distress. She constantly needs the strong male to come rescue her. She lets her emotions control her. (typical weak woman who can't control her emotions) Point in case, "Meat" both she and Jack are in the same situation, their lover has been captured and is in danger. The man stays cool in the situation, the woman lets her emotions get the better of her, and she walks out putting them all in danger.
Not to suggest that show is sexist, just that the character of Gwen reinforces a lot of bad stereo types about women.
Going back to the woman as Damsel in distress, I don't know about you guys, but I remember when I was little, like preschool, we'd play the rescue me games. You know the one where you hand off the side of the slide pretending its a volcano or cliff, and someone has to come save you by pulling you up. Typically, as I remember, it was the girls who would typically be the ones hanging off, and the boys who played as Peter Pan or Robin Hood, and came to save us. The boys save the girls.
Child's play, but its reinforced in fairy tales and movies, and even as you grow up there is still a lack of strong female characters. Its not as bad as it used to be. We've had Buffy, Xena, and a host of other butt kicking women, and I'm glad.
Tosh, however, was unlike most of these because her strength was mental. So she was a figure who girls could look up to, and see its cool to be smart.
She's also a science/math person. I'm sure e all remember the fire storm of controversy bac in 2001 when a Harvard Cheif siad that men were inately better than women in math.
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/01/17/summers_remarks_on_women_draw_fire/
The fact remains that yes, there are more male scientists and mathematician. Mainly because from childhood, math is seen as a boy's thing. Typical "boy's toys" include blocks, Lincoln logs, chemistry sets, and other toys which will help build math and science skills, while typical "girls toys" are dolls. So while the games boys play prepare the to be good at math, the games girls play prepare them to be good at accessories, decorating, and playing house.
http://www.eurocosm.com/Application/images/Science-Set-Kits/61805-Chemistry-Set-md.jpg notice the picture on the front is a boy
Not to suggest that girls don't play with blocks or boys don't play with barbies, I'm merely stating that the general 'boy and girl" toys. So math is considered masculine, so girls don't get into it as much, because it is human nature to stick to social norms. Why are you wearing a dress, because girls wear dresses. If the norm says its ok to for a girl to wear jeans, then they do.
So by having positive female role models out there for young women, we can shift norms.
Women in math and science are a minority, so its important that we see them represented in the media. For often our media tends to glorify women who act stupid. Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, beautiful but not very smart, and these are the women the media puts on a pedestal.
Tosh is a character that is smart, and that's what gives her power, not the fact that she's pretty and has big boobs.
To quote this article http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2006/february15/mathem-021506.html on why there aren't as many women in math.
"Nobody out there is saying that smart is sexy and smart is important," said McKellar, the co-author of a mathematical proof. "Role models like Paris Hilton have everything to do with why this country is being dumbed down. We need better PR."
Tosh was exactly the sort of character we need more of, so its sad to see her written off.

Yeah I know what you mean about Tosh...she had brains and she was quite beautiful (more so than Gwen if i may say)...Gwen not very much...she's a bit clever, but not worthy of being kept...bring either Tosh or Owen back! I would've liked to have seen more of their relationship as well :sigh: dam these people and their evil minds!

As much as I loved Dead Man Walking and A Day in the Death, I would probably just have Owen die halfway through the series and then not bring him back. I mean I like Owen and all, but had he stayed dead, it would have been the most awesome and unexpected television death ever. The next few episodes would then have been devoted to the team trying to balance their grief with combating alien threats and whatnot. Martha would have permanently replaced Owen as the team's doctor (with everyone giving her a lot of crap about it), Tosh feeling regret, and then losing her mind, because they never went out on that date; and Gwen feeling very guilty. Then in the last episode, I'd have John causing havoc throughout Cardiff, which actually turns out to be a diversion for Gray to sneak inside the Hub. The team enters once they've dealt with John, only to be mown down by Gray. Jack is revived, only to find Tosh, Ianto, Gwen and Martha killed, and Gray nowhere in sight. Jack then weeps for the loss of his colleagues, but at the same time realises that for the first time since Owen's death, they are at peace, something Jack can never have.

OMG i wouldve tried my eys out if they did that... i would hate Russel T. Davis for doing that. but thats a very creative idea... And wouldbt be a series three. because there would only be jack left..and thats just boring...

BANANAS Before CoE aired I would have said that Tosh and Owen dying was a mistake. and Would have created a whole backstory as to why. But after the first two episodes of CoE I now think different. Don't worry I won't spoil anything.
But Now that there is three the episodes run so smoothly and a lot more can be covered and done. Sure its sad that they left (I love both Owen and tosh) but now we can find out more about backstories etc.
I also would have suggested killing off Gwen just because she got on my nerves a lot. But in CoE she has smartened up, because of the lose of her friends she is now learning more and working a lot harder, she is also less of a damsel in distress now.
Also Tosh and Owen being killed off makes some sense in the fact that they couldn't really reveal any more about there characters. If you think about it both of them do not really have a life outside of Torchwood and they both have had there backgrounds covered, leaving nothing really new or surprising to be done with them. Unlike Ianto who no one even knows if he has relatives, where he lives etc., and Gwen who is married and has a life other than her job, and Jack who is obviously not going to go anytime soon.
Also, it was pretty certain after Owen already died once that he was going to go again, since his body could be easily damaged. So I think they wanted Tosh to leave too because, lets face it. Tosh loved Owen for a long amount of time so she probably would have been very angtsy afterward or even quit at Torchwood, leaving Jack having to retcon her etc. Which I think would have been worse for the fans.
Well thats my 52 cents lol.
Of course, because Bananas are far more interesting.

Yeah, I have to say, I'm not really missing Owen... I really REALLY loved Tosh but I think her character was at the end of the line. Gwen annoys the shite out of me but at least all the tension between her and Jack has been left out in series 3, and him and Ianto are getting a proper romance xp
HOW AMAZINGLY GOOD IS SERIES 3?!?! gonk

Okay, this is really my view on the whole look on Torchwood, and dont judge. One: I thik Gwen should go, like I mean who does she think she is? She's been with every guy on that show (excluding Ianto) and it gives girls a really bad rep ya know? Two: I think they should have never killed Owen and brought him back. I mean it's nice that they brought him back, but if they wanted to keep him why kill him off in the first place. Three: If they don't bring back Ianto Jones I am goint to explode with anger and then make a video about it! Three: I think they could have made both Ianto and Tosh's deaths a little more honorable. Yes, Tosh did die saving Owen, but I dont think they should have done the scene with her dragging down the stairs. But I did love the goodbye scene between her and Owen, that was beautifully written. And Ianto. They shot at a technologically advanced alien whose threatening to kill all the human race. What did you expect he would do if you shot at him? I think they could have thought that one out a little better. But again, I did enjoy the goodbye scene between Ianto and Jack, that was also beautifully written. Four: I really wished they would have (can't find the word) gone deeper into the relationship between Jack and Ianto. Im speaking for me and many of my fan-friends when I say that we wanted to see what could happen between those two.
