This thread is where you can discuss writers that you think have influenced you and your writing in one way or another.

No, you haven't. I still love you though (in a friendship way mind you stare ).
My most influencing writer is J. R. R. Tolkein. Ever since I read the Lord of the Rings series (and I read the books years before the movies came out), I've been amazed by his writing style and his writing process. You think that the Lord of the Rings is long try adding in everthing he knew about his world but didn't publish. Look how long the the History of Middle Earth series is.

Ellen Hopkins showed me point of view can be powerful and that emotions can be everywhere in a single passage. That and that poetry can be used for modern stories. Shel Silverstein kept the kid in me alive. The Alice in Wonderland series fed my mind a lot of stuff that often bursts out and slap me. The Grimm brothers {or any less modern fairy tale people} and Yuki Kaoru injected twisted ideas. Marcus Sedgewick formed more dark tones into my writing. Neil Gaiman forced my mind to think in different angles and also haunted me with gruesome thoughts that often warped themselves. And Markus Zusak tinted myself to become more life loving.
My greatest inspiration however would come from the world of music and their intriquing lyrics. That and teachers who would digress and begin to talk about the oddest stuff. One of mine talked about our regressing pinkie toes. I didn't want to know that!
Ya' know, speaking of the series by Tolkein reminds me of Eragon by that kid. I've read the first book and it kind of got me thinking that it was sort of a rip off of the series a tad bit.

Honestly, I don't think any particular author influenced me more than Johnathan Stroud. He kind of opened my eyes to the idea of the not-so-happy ending and the imperfect main characters. (Glaringly imperfect, not like Odysseus little hubris flaw)
But really, and definitely, I can't say I was influenced by many people. I experimented a bit with a more Tolkien-ish writing style, but that did not work out for me. I'd say life taught me more about people than really other writers did.
