What would happen if you looked at a black hole? what would you see (or not see)? xd

eek YOU WOULD SEE SOMETHING TOTALLY AMAZING!!!...if your eyes could see particles beyond the visible spectrum. LIKE SUPERMAN!!! Of course you still wouldn't actually be seeing the black hole. I wish they were clear holes. But then I guess that would make them the theoretical wormhole.

Well, you wouldn't see anything.
A black hole's gravity is so strong that not even light can escape, so if you see a black hole, you're screwed.

It's possible you'd see a ring of soon-doomed matter just around the event horizon.. but the center would be black. It's the whole 'no light escapes' thing razz

I'd have to agree with everyone else. though you may also see objects behind the black hole appear to be streached and distorted because black holes can obsorb and curve light.
you would also see some objects orbiting it that may not necisarily be sucked in any time soon.

To sum up the previous questions, the gravity of the black hole would leave a black hole (hence the term razz ) in the middle with the effect of gravitational lensing surrounding it (that is set against a brighter background).... images of stars behind it getting all warped. Also, the ring of material about to be devoured emits light in the X-ray frequencies and is called an accretion disc. I believe the first black hole to be identified was Cygnus X-1, a strong source of X-ray radiation. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just remembering things off the top of my head.

You wouldn't see anything since even light is deflected inside the black hole so it would be pitch black.
