 The lion snorted, earns twitching as an insect buzzed passed him. Leave it to his parents to do it to him again, more cubs on the way, just what he didn't need, more siblings. If the den hadn't been crowded before, it certainly would be now. It seemed he was going to be spending a lot more time away from home, and if his mother thought he was baby sitting, well he wasn't going to, so there.
Nose pointed skyward, he sniffed the air, searching for a scent on the wind, though why he did not know. Perhaps he had become paranoid of late, or more likely simply suspicious of a certain friend of his, he'd prefer to catch her rather than her catching him.
Hmmm, safe for now, or so he thought. Shrugging, he allowed his form to fall into a long stretch, starting from forepaws, down his neck and shoulders, following through to hind legs, and finally ending with a curl of his tail. Now the question remained, what was there to do today for an energetic lion seeking to avoid home for the day.

For once Kati wasn't exactly looking for Shin to torment, but he was far from safe as that didn't mean she wouldn't do so when or if she DID happen across him. It had become a treasured past time for her, though, a way of spending time hanging out with a friend that could actually put up and keep up with her rambunxious attitude and blunt logic. Good old common sense didn't have a place in Kati's world, after all, so it was only truth in saying that she didn't really think anything wrong with pouncing on innocent bystanders and the like-- it was their own fault for having their guard down anyway.
Today she wandered not quite aimlessly, looking for a good rock to sun herself on following a very satisfying hunt. She'd yet to clean all the blood from her paws just yet, but intended to do so when she got to a good location, unfortunately for Shin'jougen, she came by him first.
Immediately her body ducked down into the tall grasses, all too prepared for a second hunt. Had he noticed her? She hadn't been paying attention to the wind before now, but if it seemed to be downwind of her then she'd give it a try, if not, well, next time. Nevermind that her paws were still fresh with crimson "paint" that would undoubtedly smudge on her victim upon contact, Kati was always up for a little playful romp with the pale faced male that she'd come to regard as her partner in crime, besides, the day that Shin cared about getting dirty during playtime was the day that Katiti started second guessing herself. It just wasn't gonna happen.
~Oh you are -SO- mine, pretty boy.~ She smirked as she adjusted her position for optimized weight distribution.

An ear twitched, tail flicking, the lion paused in his steps for a moment as if searching. He had heard something, he was sure of it, but not that he looked around he didn't see anything, maybe it was his imagination, or more likely a hare scurrying away at the presence of a predator.
Dismissing it for the moment, Shin walked on, oblivious to the 'predator' that was stalking him. Had he realized she was there he would have certainly turned the tables on her, not hesitating to turn and stalk her instead, or to lead her off into some cleverly devised trap. Yes, that was what he would do, if only he had realized she was there.
Another twitch, eyes narrowed, wait a minute, that was no hare!

KYAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! SNEAKATTACK!!!
Or something to that effect, as Katiti-bia lunged from the grasses head on, er, half-head on. Her aim was to take him down to the ground, maybe start up a little wrestling match as they so often did in greeting to one another. The moment her paws made contact the blood from her kill stained his coat, but of course she still wasn't thinking about that. As soon as the dust settled from the scuffle Katiti's laughter could be heard over the deafening silence of prey not daring to make a sound.
"Oh man, you're such a chump! That's EIGHTEEN to seventeen. You'll never beat me now that we're both adults. You might as well just quit while you're still sort of young!"

The realization had come too late, by the time he knew she was there, she was already on him. A pounce, a roll, and a cloud of dust later, he found himself on his back, orange eyes glaring up at his friend.
"It is not! The first time didn't count!"
He snorted, tail twitching. He hadn't been ready for her that first time, hadn't even known her, so of course it didn't count. Of course, applying that logic, every time thereafter didn't count either. His following 'attack' had been response for the first time, and every following encounter revenge for the previous, not that he was thinking that far ahead.
"Get off me!"
Rearing his hind legs, he kicked at her underside, forepaws pushing at her chest, trying to push her off him and flip her over his head, giving him the advantage. Still larger, he may have hoped he had a slight advantage, but it was becoming much harder to overcome the disadvantage of leverage.

"Oh?" She laughed. "And where would -you- have us start counting, at your--"
She had mercy today, moving quickly off of him in favor of side stepping to let him get up. She had proven her point today, she figured, no need to embarrass him any further, her ego thought.
"--first attack? Pfft, we wouldn't even have this score going if it weren't for the first time, but if the old codger really wants a handicap that bad..." She grinned, clearly in an even better mood now than she had been before. A full, warm belly, a satisfying and successful first attempt on her hunt-- resulting in that content stomach --and now getting the jump on Shin. Damn but this was turning out to be the perfect day.
She calmly started grooming the blood from her paws, ignoring what she'd passed on and so kindly "shared" with Shin.
"By the stars, Shin, you can't even top a 'little' girl, how the hell can you EVER hope to start a family of your own?"

He snorted, looking down at his own stained hide, grumbling as he tried to lick it clean. Crazy girl, not only had she pounced him, but she had gotten blood on him as well. Not that he really cared about that, what was a little dirt and blood between friends, but it was the principle of the thing, he should have been the one to pounce -her-! Grrr! He was so close to taking the lead, now he'd had to pounce her twice to get the lead, not that he couldn't do that.
"Of course, where else would you--"
He fell silent, eyes narrowed. Did she just, did she imply, oh it was on now! Her fondness for referring to him as old (even though he wasn't) he could handle, but insulting his masculinity he would not tolerate. If there was ever a way to incite a reaction, that was it.
"Why don't you try me, 'little girl', we'll see how well you walk afterward."

He actually managed to take her quite off guard just by replying to her bait so quickly. It was a VERY rare moment of surprise for Kati as her eyes widened mis grooming. She didn't look up, she just sat there for all of two seconds staring at her paw, tongue extended to take the next lick, and hopefully he wouldn't notice that delay, that pause.
"Excuse me?"
Katiti glared briefly, taking one, two, three bold steps forward until she could stare him right in the eye, not budging an inch. "Let's see how well I walk afterwards? Did I just hear you right?" She glared, standing up on all fours again, the remaining blood momentarily forgotten, and there wasn't much of it left anyway. "Are you actually implying that I couldn't keep up with you, you old coot?"
She raised an eyebrow, the other one partially lowering with an expression that almost seemed to read as if to ask if he had lost his mind.

He did not back down, did not hide the smirk that had graced his maw, oh he had gotten to her. A flick of his tail, he glared right back, standing to his full height, mane ruffling as if to show his true size, to emphasize his words, though he knew better than to try to intimidate her.
"Yes, that is exactly what I am implying."
His gazed fixed on hers, there was no flinch at her words, only bold confidence. Under other circumstance he might have questioned his own words, but somehow Katiti always brought out the best him him, or the worst.
"What's wrong, afraid I'm right?"
There was a taunt in his voice, a smirk tugging at the corner of his maw. Let's see her answer that one if she dared.

. . . Holy s**t! Was he serious?! She couldn't back down, WOULDN'T back down from any challenge unless it put her family at risk, but that presented a slight problem. To accept was to take Shin up at his word, which of course meant mating with the idiot (Not that she actually saw him as an idiot, so much as it was a term of "endearment" within their friendship, same as "little girl" and "Old codger".), would she -ever- hear the end of that story even if she proved him wrong? The taunting possibilities were endless, but maybe all she'd need do was give him a reminder butt kicking if he did get out of hand later...
But to decline was to admit defeat, to accept the title of "little girl" now and forever to DEFINITELY never live down.
That was unacceptable. "Alright then, y'pervert, put your proof where your big mouth is!" She retorted sharply, with as much confidence in her voice as usual as she took a push at his chest with one paw, then turned to lead him somewhere secluded with one firm stare back over her shoulder as if to say "You better not go anywhere".

That was unexpected, she had actually taken him up on the challenge. Not that he had been bluffing, he was all for proving himself, but now were they really going to do this? Well alright then, no turning back now, and he certainly wasn't going to back down from a challenge either.
"Bring it on, let's do it."
He raised a paw against hers in retaliation, emphasizing his words with a snap of his tail. There was no yielding, no turning back. Words spoken clearly, confidence and pride in his own step, he followed after her, watching her every movement, certain she would try to gain the first move. He would have to be ready, he had to prove his point, or he would never live to hear the end of it.
If he thought about it, he would have realized how beautiful she was, how she had grown since they'd first met. But now, such thoughts were furthest from his mind. This was a matter of pride, and this time, the score would go his way.

"Fine, but I'm worth more than one lousy point. This counts for TWO." She growled.
Oh, but what it would've done to further bolster her ego if he had noticed, though he'd never have said so so easily, especially not in the midst of a challenge like this. Kati at the moment didn't notice or care. She was instead focused on finding someplace for them to have their little "sparring match", someplace with room to fight and... whatever else. This would be a huge win for her if she could come out on top, so to speak, and she wasn't going to pass that chance up over a bad choice of location. He'd NOT be getting the best of HER today thank you very much.
Finally she realized that the only place they'd likely get any peace was near the border by the gorge. No one really looked after that place too closely at this time of day, or at least from what she remembered there was a cave of sorts that they could use, near the river. It was hidden well by overgrown grass and twined Bonzai trees, and would make the perfect shelter for the afternoon.
Katiti didn't stop until they had reached those trees, at which point the lioness turned with a dry smirk. It was time for that rematch already, and she for one intended to have a perfect score of twenty before the day was done.
