The Jumon clan resides in a small, walled-off cluster of buildings in the southern part of the Village, and, if, when one exits the place, they did not hear the noise of the bustling and of money changing hands, one would think that the compound was far from the marketplace. The estate is divided down the center, and comprised of two long houses, in which every rooms’ walls are covered in soundproofing seals, which run also along the inner edges of the walls that keep them from the rest of the Village. Within the houses, there are rooms in which each member of the Clan may sleep, eat, and train their voices. The seals on the walls serve as the only decoration.

Jumon Masami calmly surveyed the small garden courtyard within her compound's largest building, belonging to the Mahoutsuka Jumon, of course, and not the weak-minded (in her opinion) Meikou, who had the use of the smaller House facilities. She hummed under her breath a softly sinister tune; a couple of the flowers nearest her looked as if they were going to wilt, soon. Her lips quirked upwards into a cruel smirk. Another thing to berate those weaklings next door about; after all, I said that the gardens were to be immaculate. The sadistic expression vanished, to be replaced by something more appropriate for the contemplation of gardens. Distantly, she heard the other members of her clan her clan, yes, it was hers, hers to rule- after all, who had the power to best her?- moving about the compound, most singing or humming under their breath, hurrying about their tasks, their training, and their daily business. Many of the weaker members were on rotation to provide entertainment in the Marketplace, in order to both keep in practice, train themselves in a number of different ways, and occasionally bring in the tips from pleased listeners. She smiled; who knew that such a small shinobi village could be so profitable?

Himo Makahashi, the ruler of the Grass Country and the Kusakage of the Grass Village, made his way alone through the streets of the village and silently approached gate to the Jumon Estate, hidden behind the Southern Wall. He silently and carefully opened the gate and let himself in to the grounds of their estate and came to a stop by a beautiful fountain. As planned with the Clan Head, he would not go past this fountain unless invited to out of respect for the grievances caused. All on all, he was given the most leniancy, but not because of his postion. It was because he was friends with the Clan Head. By the fountain Himo stood in silence, waiting to be greeted.

Masami frowned. There was an Outsider in her compound. At her nod, one of the youngest of the clan, one who had not yet determined which House she would live in, darted out to the Fountain and back, barely pausing once she got there before returning. Brat. the Jumon Clan Head growled within her mind, knowing that there would always be ears listening. She waited impatiently for the kid to return, and when she did, the child nearly ran into Masami quite literally in her excitement. "Kusakage-sama, Masami-sama!" The elder Jumon barely held back a piercing glare, and gave a nearly imperceptible nod as she made her way regally past the brat, soon finding herself by the fountain and before the Kusakage. She bowed a greeting with just enough respect shown to be thought polite. "Kusakage-sama, what brings you to my humble abode?"

Himo bowed low to the ground with respect for the Clan Head. "Lady Masami," he said politely. "It is good to see you again. It has been a long time since last we met." He rested slightly on the fountain's edge before continuing. "I have several things I wish to ask of you. First and foremost, I wish to give my apologies. At the time, I did not have the power or experience as Kusakage to stand up against the Elders of the country and could not prevent your noble clan from being seperated from the rest of the village. For that I apologize, and I also apologize for not fixing that problem the minute I became ruler of this country." Himo shifted a little. "I have a favor to ask of you, Lady Masami, and I hope you will take me up on it. May we go inside and sit down?"

"Of course." She nodded, both to the Kusakage and the youngster who was looking on, a slightly older one than the first, who wore the sash denoting their status as one of the Mahoutsuka. The child hurried off, and Masami led the way to the Receiving House, the smallest building in the compound and nearest to the gates, placed expressly for visitors. She opened the door for the Kusakage to reveal a spacious room with a low table, cushions, and the youngster who had run off busy preparing a tea service in one corner. Masami gestured gracefully for the Kusakage to enter first. The far wall contained windows that overlooked a small courtyard garden with a softly-burbling stream passing through it: the Visitors' Garden.

Himo entered into the Recieving House and waited for his host to enter and sit, which she did, before he too took a seat. He sat n silence for a few moments, graciously accepting a cup of tea from the youngster who offered it to him. he took a sip of the hot brew and placed the cup gently down on the table. "The tea is perfect," he said with a gentle nod in Masami's direction, a smile on his face. "Let me get right to the point of my visit today. I feel it is time for the Jumon to be accepted into Kusagakure. I would like for you, Lady Masami, to take a position on my council." His smile faded to a mere grin of happiness as he spoke. "As you mayor may not know, I abolished the leadership of our country and took over as ruler of both Country and Village. As such, I cannot maintain control of both without a little aid from great shinobi who I could trust above all else. That is where you come in. I need someone of your skill, power, and ability to be on my council." He paused for a moment to let this all sink in. "What do you say?"

"I see," Masami raised one perfectly-sculpted eyebrow, "And what does being a part of this 'Council' entail, Kusakage-sama, and why would I be among your choices, if I may be so bold as to ask?" Her tone was more.. neutral than a few moments earlier, as her interest was piqued and the suggestion of power enticed her psyche, warming her controlled voice a few tiny degrees.

Himo took a sip of tea and set the cup gently on the table once more. "It would entail helping me maintain control of both the country and the village," he responded without a change in demeanor. "The council is made up of four members. The four members being myself as head and three others. Mayumi Ryoku of the Hidden Grass, Tsubaya Jinsoku of the Hidden Twilight, and yourself make up the rest of my council. You would of course, be in charge of your own genin team as well as assist me in whatever duty I ask. The only person you would answer to is me." He sighed for a moment, his demeanor changing ever so slighty. "I would have you on my council for skill, authority, and ability, but that is not all. I value your advice and friendship, and I feel as though I cannot fully make amends to the Jumon clan as a whole without your help. You are the only person I could think of for this position out of everyone else in the village. Please accept it." Himo picked up his cup again and took another sip, his demeanor having already returned to the way it was before.

Masami, frowning contemplatively, turned her attention to her tea, which was quickly cooling in the slight breeze from the garden, in order to give herself some time to think. I still see no reason for this person to consider me his friend. However, I suppose if I accept, I could use this... Why rule a mere clan when your voice may be heard above others? There was a long pause as her mind filed each pro against a con, carefully computing her final answer. She placed her cup back on the table with an air of finality. "I accept your offer, Kusakage-sama."

"Wonderful," Himo said, finishing off the last of his tea with a final sip. "I will inform the rest of the council then and we will look forward to our first meeting in a few days time. That should give you plenty of time to make arrangements here." With a final bow, the Kusakage showed himself to the door of the Recieving House, shutting the door quietly behind him as he left. He strolled past the fountain and out of the gate that seperated the Jumon from the rest of the village.

The child who had been serving the two powerful shinobi tea came and collected the mostly-empty cups and disappearing into the tiny kitchen in the corner, quickly washing them and leaving the Receiving House as Masami sat still, silently contemplating the new pathways now open to her. As the door slid shut behind the young one, she allowed herself a grin, one that would put even a wolf's to shame. She stood and also exited the House. Perhaps I'll see how our pair of buskers are doing this day... ((exit to Marketplace))

Masami returned from her meeting and headed directly to the small office that was adjoined to her room. There, she wrote out three brief missives and sent them off with a few of the wood thrushes the Jumon Clan employed as messenger birds when their own voices were not adequate, or if they were trying to reach those not of the clan. The birds could not carry large or long messages, but they were quick enough, and their calls pleasing enough for the Jumon to be satisfied. Masami then fixed herself a quick meal, as most members of the Clan were about their separate tasks at this time of day, and then she headed out. Time to see what this year's crop of genin is like...

Masami walked briskly to her little office, listening intently to what 'Gypsy' had to say. When she reached the small room, she puled a piece of paper towards herself and quickly transcribed the report in her personal cipher; 'Gypsy' had been one of her four best agents for some time, and only sent reports when something was actually important. The more stationary agents in 'Gypsy's assigned region reported the inconsequential as well as the bigger news, though 'Gypsy's reports always seemed more detailed. It went without saying that the 'team' of agents and informers in Gypsy's region were the best, considering the resident Hidden Village's apparent specialty. Thus, 'Gypsy' was the one through which the more significant reports came, while the others were generally delivered by thrush, often stopping at waypoints (usually with other agents or informers) along the way. Masami grimaced as a second report came at the close of 'Gypsy's; she would be much later than she had planned. She hated being late.
