"Melchi. Eat!" Melchior looked at his Mus companion-turned motherly Bluefur when she reminded him that he hadn't eaten yet this day as he flew. He made sure it was safe to land in the forest and ate some of the odd berries and mushrooms Bluefur had in her paws for him. He finished and completed the hours' long flight from his own home to the Crafter whom he had apprenticed under, Goldleaf.
"Gold! It's Melchior, your once old apprentice! I have a question for you." Melchior waited for the Crafter to appear and continued, "I've seen some of the other Sentinels with their own emblematic items that they wear. I wondered, as the Crafter whom I apprenticed under, that you would have a good idea on what I can make as my own emblem."

The crafter in question was busy tinkering away with pieces of gold as usual, the musical sounds of tool-on-metal floating through the territory. His companions were out gathering tasty morsels (probably more for themselves than for their master), so he was left peacefully alone to work. He stretched his wings a bit, having been sitting in the same place for a good half hour or so, willing the tools to shape the metal into a thin chain. Gold-tipped eartufts quivered as he heard the arrival of some guest on his tree, and he turned his head at the familiar voice, a little quirk of a smile on his beak.
"Aaah, well I've had a talon-full of apprentices, but I couldn't mistake them for you, Melchior! You've grown up quite nicely, haven't seen you in moons!" He beamed at the striking contrast of paints and jewelry, tilting his head as his previous-apprentice posed the question.
"Emblems, eh? Well, s'bout time you asked, boy! Every crafter should have their own specific emblem, I think. It's like a footprint - let's one know who a fine piece of jewelry should be accredited to, and it's yours and only yours." Nodding his head slightly, he gave Melchior a quick onceover and then continued, fanning his tailfeathers as he did so. "You should pick out something you like, something special to you that holds simple significance! My emblem, for example, is but after my namesake, though I adore gold and leaves themselves."
A hardy chuckle left his chest as he nipped at the charm hanging from his necklace, then returned to the other crafter in thought. "Yours should be in silver, naturally. Now, what are some things you like, boy?"

Melchior's ear tufts twitched a little at Goldleaf's question. Some things he liked? Well that was easy!
Melchior hooted and answered, "Well that's metal crafting and you of course! I like you Gold! You are a wonderful teacher, and you have always been willing to help me. As my teacher, of course I like you."

The crafter stumbled in thought for a second at Melchior's straightforwardness. "Ah, well, I ... uhm...," he took a breath and let it out in a chuckle. "You flatter me, boy, and I thank you kindly for such words. I meant, however, something simple yet meaningful, something that can be easily crafted but still be beautiful. Take something from nature! Your love for metal crafting will already be obvious in your work." He still chuckled even as he talked, and a small shake of his head to dismiss the idea was all it took to calm him down and break away from his own work.
"Now, say you liked... the moon! And flight! You can combine these too images into one, a moon with wings - it is a simple yet alluring combination and will appeal to your customers as a decoration, even though it is also your emblem. You have dark, lovely painted wings with eyes of the moon - your emblem must speak of you! It's a sort of bragging right, if you get my meaning." Goldleaf winked at the younger Sentinel, fluffing his feathers and preening his wings idly.
"Give me more of your likes and we'll see if we can't craft something for you, Melchior!" Gold eyes twinkled in delight as he watched his former-student.
