Keybearers
It must be said here that the Keybeares are the first, last and probably the onl real line of defense against the Heartless. Chosen to bear the Keyblade, it can be said that Keybearers are potentially the most dangerous people in the omni-verse, as it is by their actions that worlds live and die.
Keybearers can come from any place, any time, believe in anything, or even in nothing at all. The only thing that they share is their indomitable will, a desire to do what needs to be done.
It must be said here that not all Keybearers wield Keyblades. The how and the why whereby those chosen few obtain their Keyblade are difficult to know until the event has passed. Sometimes the weapons come in thier darkest hour, as their world is devoured by the Heartless, or possibly in the moment victory, urging its chosen champion on to greater things to come. A rare few take thiers by force of will from another, some never recieve a Keyblade, and legends speak of those impossible individuals who have forged thier own Keyblade, independant of the Kingdom Hearts.
Many people are under the impression that there is only one Keyblade, and by extension, one Keybearer, due in part to the rarity of the Keybearer, and many stories are simply attributed to "The Keyearer", with no discretion as to who they are talking about. But this is not true, there are many Keyblades, and even more Keybearers. But it is nigh impossible to count them all, as they can be hidden from normal sight, and some Keybearers do not advertise thier capacity to total strangers.
It is possible, however, for a keyblade to transfer between Keybearers. While the Keyblade wll accept the grasp of any Keybearer, the Keyblade will choose who it allows to bear it. This choice can change, when one Keybearer either chooses to give up the Keyblade. Or more commonly, when two Keybearers meet, they may engage in a contest of will, with the prize being possesion of the keyblade. There is more to this conflict than that, as such events are actually very rare, and only occur when one feels like they have been wronged, or somehow denied their on Keyblade.
A Keyblade cannot be taken by physical force, and any non-keybearer who attempts to wield the Keyblade will find that the weapon immediately dissolves, reforming in the hands of its chosen bearer.
Opinions are split over these who seem to wield two Keyblades. Some take this at face value, that the Keybearer does in fact possess two of these tools. Others take this to mean that the person in question has somehow made their blade to manifest twice over. Whatever the reason, this cannot be denied, and for the purposes for game mechanics, each blade is treated as a separate item for the purposes of equipment, Two-Weapons skill, and keychains.
