Before the beginnings of recoreded history, that which was, was sundered into that which is and that which is not. These are very abstract ways of defining the Hearts and the Heartless. The Kingdom Hearts was at the center of this sundering, with the Abyss at the End of all Worlds surrounding and being contained by the Kingdom Hearts. And around this unplace, the worlds of the omniverse were born from the shattered fragments of that which was.

Every world has a heart, and every heart has a door to the Abyss. The Heartless seek to find these doors, and consume them, taking the heart that was there, back to the Abyss, to become another Heartless. This process happens to people and worlds alike, and the Heartless are tenacious and persistent in acheiving this single minded goal.

But agianst the Heartless stand the Keybearers. These are individuals who have been chosen to wield a Keyblade, a shard of the Kingdom Hearts in opposition to the Heartless. All Keybearers possess an indominable spirit, a willingness to persevere against the seemingly infinite tides of the Heartless. The prime purpose of the Keyblade, and by extension, the Keybearer is to seal the Hearts of the worlds against the Heartless, saving both it, and the people residing there, from the consumption of thier hearts.

But all is not black and white. The Void IV and of course the Twilight VI, whose members are people who seemingly exist without being, has become active in these past few years. They seek to unravel the true mysteries surrounding the Heartless and the Keyblade, and act upon this knowledge. There are also those who walk the fine line between the Hearts and the Heartless, individuals who seem to have transcended the prime forces of thier creation. No longer Light or Dark, or perhaps holding on to both, these wild cards have yet to make thier presence felt in the grand scheme of things.
