i'm surprised that i haven't seen a topic concerning this documentary yet.

earthlings is narrated by joaquin phoenix, a famous actor and a vegan.
it's a must-see film and i've been craving a discussion. i saw zeitgeist once and revelled in the discussion that followed on forums across the internet. much of the information in zeitgeist is incorrect, so i was looking for people who may have information against what is presented in earthlings, just in case anything is exaggerated or totally made up [i intend make no comparasion between the films other than both are revolutionary documentaries that aim to change popular thought].

earthlings is very graphic, and i'd say "viewer discretion advised," but the truth is the truth, and censoring what goes on in the movie would be like trying to ignore the truth of what goes on in other parts of the world [Darfur, Asia, and even right here in the United States].

the intention of the film is to open your eyes to reality, to be a voice for animal rights, and to promote a vegan lifestyle, and a lifestyle in every sense of the word -- entertainment, clothing, food, etc.

with subtitles for those of us who have bad ears/attention spans [like me]

I didn't know it was available to watch for free online! Thanks for the link.

I haven't been able to watch it yet but I want to. Unfortunately, as an extremely empathetic person it's hard for me to even discuss cruelty or painful situations sometimes because it causes me so much distress. ):

and it's legitimately free -- no pirating! they made it free on purpose to reach the masses. the music is by the band moby, who is also vegan. [: [although i must admit that i wasn't paying attention to the music at all -- too shocked].

most people have a particularly hard time watching it. some take as long as two weeks to get through it, others just listen to the narration while not looking at the screen. i'm surprised that some people have watched it multiple times -- i've only had the courage to watch it once. people have different levels of handling violence [and it's especially hard to watch since it's nothing but real footage], so take as much as you can -- don't push yourself!

INTENSE stuff.
it was like watching passion of the christ.
except scarier, because you're watching the real thing happen.

I watched the first third of it on YouTube last night, I couldn't stop crying (but how can you not watch it and cry?) I'm ordering the DVD from a vegan online store and will be (hopefully) showing it to my family & friends.

I told them if they would watch a movie with me I would never talk to them about veg*nism/animal rights again unless they asked me a question.

i double-checked the link and it wasn't working, so i put up a new link to the full-length film on Google.

there are shorter documentaries out there. i just finished watching one, actually, about the Wegman's egg industry. the battery cage style is prevalent throughout the egg industry as a whole, so it's relevant to everyone. it's just under half-hour long. it's easier to watch than all of Earthlings, and they include interviews with people who work both for the company and with the people who went to investigate the facility. in the film, you get to see people actively trying to make the chickens' lives less miserable and seeing the undercover people in action. it's definitely a good film to explain why to go vegan over vegetarian.

Wegmans Cruelty -- veg-tv.info

i really hope all goes well with your family. i've struggled to get my family to treat me like a human being. my brother and friends still ridicule me, but my mother as acutally bought vegetarian products for me without my asking her. she even tried them (and liked them!!) and asked me why i avoided eggs and dairy. this was after i explained to her a week ago that making fun of me was making my depression worse.

this is incredible, especially since she has ridiculed me enough to make me cry on several occasions [and has not and will not apologize for it]. i thought the family thing was totally hopeless, but i was wrong! keep up the good work!

and hardcore good job on ordering the DVD -- it supports the people who made the film and tells them that we really do care!

why are humans such a violent race??
why cant we all be gentle like us vegans or a butterfly or something. sometimes i think its better if we all die :/
but then i remember I am human too, and it makes me feel disgusting to know i am the same as them...
