Ok, its 40 years after the current events of the village. Its the battle of the "Over the Hill". The brawl of sagging faces and grumpy gardeners. Its ninjas quite possibly in their fifties!!!!

Manndar walks slowly into the arena with a cane. Time has been favorable to him. Besides the need to wear glasses and a slight limp, Manndar is in a healthy condition. Years upon years of training has given him the "timeless" look that masters like Jin Pal Kim, Jackie Chan, and Chuck Norris were able to attain. At age 56, it is hard for a stranger to accurately guess his age. He is not as strong as he was in his prime thirties, but he has achieved the wisdom and experience of age to compensate.

Retired from the shinobi lifestyle for 10 years now, Manndar had moved to a home higher up on the mountain where he trains those young shinobi interested in the art of hand to hand combat who have heard of him and seek him out.

Manndar wears an extremely loose martial arts attire and has his hair cut down to half an inch. The blue is now mostly gray and he has a deep scar running down past his right eye. It has been years since Manndar had used his hammer in actual combat and he isn't as intense as he used to be in his training.

His newest hobbies include working in his indoor herb garden and reading. Manndar had never even bothered to apply to become and ANBU, the whole job didn't suit his style. Somehow, he had survived his trials of being a ninja and greatly attributes that to fighting with his heart and instincts and greatly encourages shinobi youth to do the same. Right now, Manndar's son is a medical ninja, and his daughter is a jounin who wields his hammer with pride. Manndar has four grandchildren, all of which are in the academy, except for the youngest, Hachi. He died when an enemy invaded the village..... For some reason, Manndar's family has a record for twins fraternal or otherwise.

Westly walked into the arena with the same minimalist display of confidence as he always did; that is to say, he very nearly strutted, but he didn't arrive from the skies themselves while surfing on a METEOR. Kids these days, think they're all that because they can waste a crapton of chakra on NOT beating their opponent. Why, when I was your age, I didn't even HAVE chakra, it grew in later with lots of hard work and...

Wait, where was I? Oh, right.

Despite being 56 years old, Westly looked... well, he looked 26. Most people just assumed he'd spent too much time aping the fifth Hokage--not a bad guess considering their similar chakra element, control, and Westly's professed interest in the woman--but suprisingly enough, Westly's appearance was no illusion. Around thirty years ago, he'd finally achieved that measure of enlightenment he'd been searching for, at which point, he simply said something cryptic to the effect of "The immortal Self is unchanging; what right has time to change that?" and promptly stopped aging.

Westly, like Manndar, had become something not entirely unlike a legend twice over. Once for being the greatest illusionist to have ever lived; some say the real secret to his apparent immortality was by tricking time itself into thinking this was normal for him. The second time was due to his affiliation with a particular group of like-minded individuals... The Legendary Tricksters, of which Manndar had been a founding member.

"Hey, Manndar! It's a been a while, old friend! What's the occasion? Someone's birthday, or you just bored sitting on top of a mountain? You never did have the attention span to attain inner peace, didja?" Westly said, laughing.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:36 am

"I guess I never attained that trait." Manndar said as he laughed. "To add to the age old irony, kids today think they can learn that by visiting and training with 'the old man on the mountain.' They go to too many of them picture shows...... Why, when we were their age we didn't have that luxury. The village was just recovering from the shinobi war, and....... Oh sorry, I began another rant didn't I?"

Manndar then walked towards Althor and put his hand on Althor's shoulder. "Loss of control is the first thing to go." Manndar then started laughing.

Westly laughed. "Tch. Tell me about it. I've been keeping myself busy, though. Researching, teaching, keeping the Third Lord Hanekage a hair's breadth away from a nervous breakdown every day of his life... I keep telling the poor guy that if ruling the village got too easy, he'd grow soft. And then he starts yanking at his hair because I've gotten too big to throttle, you know?"

Westly laughed again. "All said, though, I'll probably be named Fourth as soon as Nekage gets fed up with leadership. Not like there's anyone else around with both an interest in and a head for the job. Aona's been doing well, by the way," he said in earnest. "She calmed down a bit around when she finally woke up and realized she was a grandmother, you know? Visit her sometime. She'll either forgive you finally or you'll put a little fight back in her.

"In any case..." Westly looked down to Manndar's hand. "What's in your hand this time? Exploding Tag? Glue? One of my topical joke potions? I have more important things to do right now than turn into a frog for a few hours, thank you very much."

Aona and Manndar had been on good speaking terms again for years now. Its just that they both have been so busy with their own lives that they haven't seen each other very much..... But Manndar and his wife and son were supposed to visit with Aona and her family later that day for food and charades.

"No, no pranks today, Just my dang ankle acting up." Manndar said as he hopped backwards and landed on one foot and his cane. "My daughter, Tanaka, is expecting at any moment and she asked me not to embarrass her. Something about not wanting to risk her newest being born to be another pranking youth."

Manndar then smiled widely and entered his stance still clenching his cane.

"Here we are, droning on and on...... What are we? Old or something?"

"Pssh," said Westly, "I'm still young. You, on the other hand... Yikes. Can you even fight without breaking your hip?"

(( OOC: While entertaining, I think this was supposed to be more... combatty ))

((Agreed))

"We'll see." Manndar said as he points his metal cane out towards Althor and presses a button. Three senbon shoot out of the bottom coming for Althor.

Senbon were innately difficult to see, let alone dodge, but required a certain degree of precision to be anything more than a pointy little nuisance. There wasn't much even ninjas of Westly's rank could do about a sucker punch of a senbon barrage at that short of a distance except shift their stance to avoid getting hit anywhere important. Unless they were poisoned, of course... but Westly was confident that he knew more about brewing potions and poisions than Manndar, or at least enough to counteract it. Westly certainly wasn't going to blow anything important on a couple of pinpricks.

Taking the hit primarily in his forearms, Westly flashstepped back a ways for breathing room and performed a series of handseals. This was an odd technique, and unless Manndar had gotten a lot better at dispelling Genjutsu in his old age, it was going to give the Taijutsu specialist a colossal headache.

"Dimensional Sight no jutsu," Westly called, and Manndar's mind reeled. Normally, the shortest distance between two points was a straight line. Westly decided that was boring: to Manndar's newly warped spatial perceptions, there were no longer any directions that led into melee range with Westly.

Hoping that this would at least buy him some time, Westly started digging through his pockets for something useful and fun.

(( Edit: Wow, I only just realized that I used "Flashstep" instead of "Body Flicker". Freudian slip by a guy whose favorite ninja is still, despite everything, Yoruichi. ))

As Manndar was put into the genjutsu, he put all of his weight on his bad ankle. Manndar cringed with pain, but it was enough to break him from the genjutsu. Manndar smirked as he remembered his daughter always riding his case about taking pain killers for his leg, and not taking them was actually beneficial to him at this particular moment.

With an awkward forward stumble due his bad ankle, Manndar ran for Althor. Due to his age and current condition, Manndar is not as fast as he was in his thirties and fourties, but he was still one of the fastest ninja in the village.

Manndar ran up to clock Althor right in the jaw.

Rummaging through his pockets, Westly finally found what he'd been searching for. "Here, catch," Westly called, as he tossed a large bomb towards Manndar. Learning how to make fireworks still ranked among the most useful things Westly had ever done. Replace the fuse with an exploding tag, and poof! Instant low-chakra energy blast. And the powder was just the creamy center; he could put other things in the outer candy shell.

The bomb went off in a screaming shower of sparkles, flinging little blue... they looked like bath beads the size of ping-pong balls... all around the arena. He hoped Manndar had dodged the blast. Westly only really expected it to unbalance Manndar, but a direct hit could deal some serious damage.

"You remember these guys, right?" Westly said, chuckling, as the entire arena rapidly filled with a concealing mist. "Mist Beads... one of my more practical inventions."

Westly took a five-foot step back into the mist. Concealment was the best defense, but if Manndar made it to him, somehow, he could probably maybe hold him off for a little bit.

On the run, Manndar smacked the bomb to the side with the end of his cane. After that, Manndar's weight fell on his bad leg without his cane for support. Manndar stumbled and made a few handsigns.

Manndar then lurched his head back and then shot it forwards shooting out six water bullets as he fell down to one knee from the crippling pain of his ankle.

Westly continued backing into the mist. He managed to evade most of the water bullets, but this was still too much of an assault too quickly. His arm stung from the block the last bullet forced him into.

Fortunately... or rather, hopefully, Manndar could no longer perceive him. Outside of that... well, a number of elemental techniques and fighting styles were very specifically screwed over by Westly's mist, above and beyond the obvious impediment of the senses. Sadly, "Suiton" and "Taijutsu" were not on that list.

It was time, however, to start playing seriously, and Westly hoped Manndar was willing to likewise oblige.

It is commonly accepted that learning techniques outside one's innate chakra element is incredibly difficult, and even coming close to mastery of a single other element is next to impossible. Westly had, however, had a good deal of time on his hands.

Three handseals, done quickly. Raiton: Will of the Wisp.

The cloud of mist ignited as lightning ionized the droplets of water spread through the air, creating the distinct eerie glow of the technique's namesake. Westly directed the attack somewhat so he didn't zap HIMSELF, but Manndar...

Westly mind raced, trying to keep a few steps ahead of his opponent.
One, he takes the hit, he's either unconscious or close to it.
Two, he dodges up out of the mist. I need to toss something up there to greet him.
Three, he learned Earth Jutsu when I wasn't looking and dodged down. Not much I can do about that.
Four, as a fellow Water-user, he tries to deflect the mist. I don't think he can do that when I'm controlling it, and the lightning will probably jump out at him besides, but... weirder things have happened.

With what little time he had left to act, Westly reached towards his pockets. For his next move, he intended to toss a pair of little explosive surprises, one upwards over the mist and one directly towards Manndar's location, in case he tried to jump or block, respectively.

After Manndar had become a jounin, he did indeed choose to take a second element. But it wasn't earth. It was the overused wind element. Main reason was for two things. Manndar liked to surprise people, and Manndar enjoys sliding around on ice.

After making a few quick handsigns concealed in the mist, Manndar jumps straight up into the air and out of the mist.

Westly performed his readied action at this time. Fireworks went off in the mist where Manndar had once stood. He probably didn't notice, however, because another one was about to go off directly above where Westly had been standing; not good if that was where Manndar was aiming, though then again, Wind could do some fascinating things to projectiles.

Westly rolled to his right and aimed at where he had just been standing. He was already starting his handseals, ready to peg Manndar the moment he reentered the mist.
