Mobile Suit Higher Academy for Pilots

The name is awkward because another nearby academy, "Mobile Suit Higher Academy for Engineers", is for the engineers of Mobile Suits while this academy is for the pilots of the same. This is the "Higher Academy" because the students enrolled here all, with few exceptions, attended and showed excellence while at "Lower Academies" scattered throughout the Federation. The lower academies serve to prepare students for military life, and their time in the higher academy, while the higher academy prepares them for military combat--war.

The students cleverly refer to the academy as "Mishap" for its acronym "M.S.H.A.P."

A single guard, chosen for his friendly face, is stationed at the gate, waiting to admit new students. The gate is always open during the day, unless there is an emergency lockdown.
