Sciatica From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sciatica is a set of symptoms including pain that may be caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve, or by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself. The pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and/or various parts of the leg and foot. In addition to pain, which is sometimes severe, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body.
Although sciatica is a relatively common form of low back pain and leg pain, the true meaning of the term is often misunderstood. Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve, causing the pain. This point is important, because treatment for sciatica or sciatic symptoms will often be different, depending upon the underlying cause of the symptoms.

it is fine with me if you move it. i think that my sciatica came from a disc problem in my lower back.

Is it possible to have the symptoms come and go? I have lower back pain, but it went away for a while. I don't think I've got sciatic symptoms as I believe it to be just a pinched nerve that gets irritated, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I may have it, everything seems to point in that direction, but I've grown tired of seeing doctors who just want to torture my poor lower back with shots to numb the agony that infests my mid back and legs from time to time. I try to avoid hard, manual and menial labor that really makes the pain rear it' ugly head, but at least you have an actual diagnosis, but I refuse to accept surgery as the only alternative since like you I'm considerably young for what they have in mind.

i think that the way that i was diagnosed was through an x-ray. it did not even hurt that badly. i also wear a back brace that my doctor gave me, and i also started exercising using something called koga (which even helped my diabeties). until today, i had not had a back ache in a long time, due to those things. i probobly am getting it back because i have not been to that class in a while, because of a cold, and my dad is in the hospital, but not only does that class help my diabeties, i feel that it helps my back as well. i hope what i am saying helps. that is just my situation.

Well it sounds like you've got a lot going on in your life, and you know belief has a lot to do with it. Diabetes is a bullet I've managed to dodge for the time being for which I'm thankful. And it's good to hear that all considered you seem to making progress, dispite not having been to your class in a while. I haven't been to one in a while myself but I can do most of it at home anyway, plus I've found that a good stroll across the river (if it's not too cold) does a world of good. Its about a mile of pure walking (and yeah, I gave my brace to my mom when she cracked her ribs) ninja

Energy's not the problem, otherwise I'd be great in the cold, but I've always been sensitive to it and my back aches like no tomorrow when it gets too cold. And I've noticed that heat does make one more sluggish...and for me gives my migraines breeding room. I like the temp to be nice and moderate (I know, like that's going to happen) xp

90 degree heat is fairly bad, 60's good, and 70 is nice and tolerable, but anything below 50 or above 80, well I become a little uncooperative at that point. But with such a cold winter I'm hoping for a nice 80 degree summer this year, but I'm hoping for a parasol this spring, just in case.
