Well, we all must get some inspiration and help from other books. And well, most writers like reading anyway so what you you favourite books/series?
Are you reading anything at the moment?

My two influences, as far as authors go, are Rowling and Palahniuk, who, ironically, are polar opposites, as far as their subject matter goes.

My all-time favorite novel, currently, is Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk.

At the moment, I'm not reading anything, but I plan to read Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange, some things by Lovecraft, and 120 Days Of Sodom (but only if I can stomach that one. It sounds disturbing whee )

Have you read Choke? That's my personal fave right now.
:3

I really like James St. James.
I've only read one of his two books, but his writing style is so inspiring.

I'm a HUGE fan of Orson Scott Card. Ender's Game is probably one of the best books you could ever read. I've never ran across someone who has read it and not liked it.

Growing up I was really into Animorphs, Fearless, and Harry Potter, but mostly I try to dig around the sci-fi genre nowadays. ^.^

Lets see.

I enjoy most anything by Umberto Eco. I would suggest reading his novels in order since you can see him develop as a writer through them, but Baudolino is probably the easiest one to get into if you want to just try one.

Other authors I particularly enjoy include Tanith Lee, Neil Gaiman Kurt Vonnegut (I cried when he died ;_; ) and Yxta Maya Murray. I've met Ms. Murray and she wrote something really sweet in my copy of The Conquest whee . In fact, she was more encouraging to me in fifteen minutes than my writing prof was in a year, but anyway~.

Assorted other books I've especially enjoyed:

Quite a Year For Plums by Bailey White
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski - Didn't sleep for a month after I read that one, but I would still suggest it.

I think Harry Potter is most charming and quite well thought out, but I was just never able to get into them and never made it past the third book. I can understand the fascination.

Palahniuk? VERY talented man! Not usually my speed, but I still enjoy picking him up from time to time.

Min- You should read 120 Days of Sodom. It's NAUSEATING, but anyone who does horror in any capacity should go through it.

My uncle says I should wait about ten years to read de Sade. Just hearing about some of the book's contents was disturbing, but I want to read it at some point.

No time like the present....right? sweatdrop And if it disturbs me too much, at least I'll be able to say I read it...

Oh, House of Leaves? People have recommended that to me. I think I'll look into it too.

But at the moments im reading the Carpathian and Dark-Hunter series whee

*Squeal!* I bought Lover Enshrined yesterday! Haven't started it yet since I am in the process of reading Jean Johnson's The Cat (fifth in a series of hers I am following.)

If you like Feehan's Carpathians you should check out her Ghostwalkers too. It's not a vampire related series, but they are modified humans with some interesting abilities and personalities.

I so can't wait for Acheron's book. Honestly, he's the main reason I've been keeping up with both the Dark Hunters and the Dream Hunters (though the most recent of her releases was enjoyable).

Uh. >.>... <.<... ^_^

Yeah, I haven't read any of those at all. *Tries to cover her three five-shelf bookcases full of the paranormal romances.* wink

Like I said, I'm currently reading The Cat. It's the fifth book in an eight book series about the Sons of Destiny, eight brothers - four sets of twins. I so can not wait for the sixth book to come out! I have a thing for the antisocial characters and Rydan is the poster boy for antisocial behavior.

I have other series that I am following, but I can't remember them all. sweatdrop

I liked how in her beginning stories, Kenyon included Julian and Kyrian into the plots. Now the two have faded away. It's a little upsetting because I love those two.

And you so need to read Julian's story! It's very VERY entertaining.

And I read Vane and Valerius's books today...yes I read them both in one day they were so entertaining haha.
I looooove Val and Vane!! heart
I hated when Kyrian and Amanda were killed but...their daughter brought them bak. I really like Ash...

Min- I'd read Sade and get it over with. Most of 120 Days of Sodom is still in outline form. So it's not SO bad, but some of the events he actually did write out are ewwwwwww.

Someone you know has a copy. This is the theory of Surprise!Sade everywhere XD.

House of Leaves is so awesome, I skipped work to read it.

That's probably the wise thing, otherwise I'll keep putting it off. And I'll laugh when I find out a friend has a copy...no really, all my friends either don't read or are raving Twilight fangirls crying

Ah, well, there's still hope, I suppose.

But it will have to wait because my dad just ordered me Fight Club and A Clockwork Orange through Amazon.com. I'm so excited!

Twilight?

EWWWWWWWWWWWWW,

I need a barfing smiley to convey my dislike of that book.

Ahem. You'll enjoy A Clockwork Orange.

Everyone's said that I'll like it and I can't wait for it to come in the mail!

I know, really, right?! Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with these people. They couldn't tell the difference between a good book and three-day-old roadkill.

But hey, that's what you guys are for, right?

I actually do know one guy who probably owns a copy of Sade...but I don't have his contact information and hardly see him even during the school year. Sigh...
