It's my experience that a large number of (educated) Christians are big on philosophy. Anyone here harbour a love of wisdom? Metaphysics, epistemology, morality and ethics?
I'm itchin' for a debate about Parmenides. twisted

Some metaphysics and epistemology to begin with, I think... as an appetizer.
Okay, Laz. My challenge to you: prove you exist.
It's harder than most people think.

Descartes? rolleyes C'mon, Laz, I thought you were smarter than that! You should know that Descartes was a pretentious moron who was grasping at straws, trying to save his career from the onslaught of philosophical scepticism. He assumes the existence of the thinker; one might as well say that a rose exists because it is red. Of course, I call it an onslaught, but such thinking had been around since at least the time of Pyrrho.

Actually, I doubt my essay will help, Laz... it's supposed to cause doubt in one's own existence, not reaffirm it. sweatdrop

Yeah. You don't have to worry about... anything, really.
Well actually, you might not exist, but your thoughts definitely do. So even if there is actually no "you" to be you, there are your thoughts, and your thoughts dream of you.

Yes, but only in part. Descartes decided that existence was a prerequisite of conscious thought, and since doubt is a kind of conscious thought, to doubt one's existence was to reaffirm it. I'm saying that even if you don't exist, your thoughts can, independent of the you-ness that makes you you.
