I want to upgrade my pc to work better with Linux (motherboard and cpu) my current system with a lack of a better term sucks it has a 2.55 GHz Celeron D Cpu (533 MHz Bus speed with a 256 KB Cache stressed ) my motherboard has no pci express slots a crumby on board graphic setup (Intel 128 MB Not Supported By Linux or Direct x)I have a grafics card Radion X1550 pci graphics card but ATI Compatibility is kinda Sketchy what would be a good choice for a cheep upgrade

The one thing you want to avoid is replacing the motherboard, it would be more cost effective and easier to buy a newer system. If you have not had to replace a MB before it is a s**t load of work, and to be honest more work than it is worth. You can try and find a better processor that has the same pin layout as your Celeron D (very unlikely but could work, I was able to successfully switch 1st Gen Celeron with a P3). If you have an AGP port on your MB then you may want to scrap that Radeon X1550 and just go with Nivdia or a ATI card that is compatable with the open-source Radeon driver, ether way you will have a better driver and there for better video support.

Yeah Maybe I'll try changing the motherboards on my 4 old computers that aren't being used (2 333 MHz computers, 1 500 MHz, and one 1 GHz)
