This was something that I came up with when I realized that we had too much left over tomato sauce from the spaghetti dinner we had a few days ago.
INGREDIENTS:
1 Baguette
leftover tomato sauce
shredded cheese (I used an Italian blend)
DIRECTIONS:
First get the baguette and cut it in half length wise so that you have two long pieces of baguette.
Now with your fingers you'll dig a shallow canal in each baguette piece so that it'll hold the sauce and cheese better.
Grab two cookie sheets or jelly roll pans and lightly grease them. The beguette pieces are pretty long and only fit diagonally on the pan so each piece will take their own pan.
Each baguette piece will now take a turn under the broiler until the edges start turning a dark brown. Keep an eye on the baguette piece when it's under the brolier because it can burn so easily (I unfortunately found this out with my first baguette piece.)
After each baguette piece is toasted spoon the leftover tomato sauce into the canal. Put as much or as little sauce as you want but make sure that it's all smoothed out so that it'll cook evenly.
Now it's time to pile on the shredded cheese. Once again put as much or as little cheese as you want but make sure it's even and try to get it all on the baguette and not on the pan.
The baguette pieces will take another turn under the broiler again. Once again keep watch other the baguette pieces and when you noticing a good amount of browning on the cheese you're done.
Now cute in bite size pieces, serve and enjoy.
P.S. -- Feel free to play with the types of cheeses and toppings.
