Solia wasn't usually one to go to the book store simple to kill time. Sure, she had the week off, but with Searan planning the club's grand opening event, the hosts, (and waiters), seemed too tied up the last few days. So, she had gone to the book store just to kill time. She was still browsing the newest section. Her special order hadn't come in, and, from the looks of it, neither had any of the other books she was looking for. "You know, the world only needs so much drama and romance. I'm quite sure we don't need it in books." She muttered to herself, glaring at the overly large 'new romance' section. "What we need are some new prose, a new epic, a new...classic." She said to no one in particular. She grabbed a Steven King novel. "And not another novel that will give me nightmares."

Reaching over the woman due to his reasonable height, Xan pulled a romance novel off the shelf looking down on the woman with a slight smirk. "Well that's rather harsh. What's wrong with a little romance in literature? And drama isn't so horrible as long as it stays in books, in my opinion. I could do without the real thing quite frankly." He smiles softly sliding away from Solia as he opens the book to inspect its pages. A rather interesting story as suggested by the introduction in the back but not his speed. He replaces the book back on the shelf walking away as if nothing had transpired.

Solia also jumped at the man reaching over her, but calmed once she recognized the voice to belonging to Xan. "Yes, well, cheesy romance that could only be played out in one's dreams are hardly worth what..." She inspected the price tag. "Eight dollars? Really, I'd much rather spend that on Dante, Swift, or...Steven Colbert!" She grabbed the book' I am America and so can you'. "Ah well...Twenty dollars...what can you expect. Better than when they cost ten silver shillings though." She relized she had been rambling. "What brings you here Xan? Looking for a book to add to you birthday wish list?"

He bristles at the mention of his upcoming birthday wondering how the woman knew but rather much not caring either way. "Actually, just browsing." he said simply slipping his hands in his pockets as he saunters around eyeing various books of interest and some not so much. "Though I could ask you the same question..." He stops in his stride to regard her. "You don't strike me as a book person, though I've been wrong before." He gives a light chuckle his mint gaze falling on a book of music which he reaches for and smiles softly. Moments later he returns it to the shelf not interested in purchasing anything right now.

Solia noticed the quick body posture at the mention of his birthday. "I'm not really looking for any book in particular, just one to kill time with." She eyed his choice in books. "And you don't strike me a s much of a music or book enthusiast yourself" She winked at him "But I've been wrong before." She picked up another novel and sighed. "Do you know of any good books? All I seem to be grabbing are clich'e novels."

He chuckles lightly regarding her once more. "Actually I'm not a book enthusiast but you'd be surprised at how inclined I am with music, ma'am." He reverted to a polite stance in their conversation not yet comfortable with using her name even though he knew her from before. He eyed the books looking down the row with a low whistles. "Gotta admit we retain a lot of information in literature alone. Be it romance, drama or even the secrets of life..." Picking a random book from the shelf he riffled through it but found it way out of his league. Dealing with military warfare.
With a great sigh he turned his attention to the coffee shop within the bookstore. If there was one good thing about these places nowadays it was the shops. "Care for something to drink?" He asked averting the conversation of books. It just wasn't his thing but that didn't keep him from reading t he occasional romance novels or fishing around for music books on piano.

"True. A good book not only takes you away, it inspires you, it moves you, it..well...I'm being a bit deep aren't I? And please Don't call me 'ma'am' You make me fee like an old lady. Solia is fine. If you really must be so polite, De'Belle is fine too." She made a mental note see what instrument he played, and to buy him something relative to that. "I'd love a drink, hope you don't mind if I quickly grab a book though." She winked, grabbing a random novel. Another mystery, thankfully, it was Koontz, so, she trusted it to be well written and keep her entertained. "Be right back, just let me pay for this and I'll be right over to join you."

"Very well Ms. Solia..." He interjected with a chuckle heading for the coffee shop area. "I'll get us a table." He offered watching as she speed off for her books. Meanwhile, Xan found a comfortable place to lounge in the back of the shop away from prying eyes. The less people staring, the better. He awaited Solia's return silently watching the people outside from the window walking by as they enjoyed their day. It was the little things in life that he appreciated the most.

Solia, done with her purchase made her way over to the coffee shop. She spotted Xan in an unlikely place, hidden away. "Ashamed to be seen with me?" She asked siting down. "Or just like to people watch with out anyone watching you?" She smiled softly. Sometimes, it was nice to simple watch other and not think about one's self. "So tell me Xan, why aren't you over at Seran's getting read for the big opening?"

Xan turned his mint gaze to the woman as she slipped into her seat. He smiled returning to watching the world outside. "I just don't like attention as much as folks want to believe." He let out on a breath of air. "Though there's nothing to be ashamed of with a pretty lady such as yourself. Just the principle of the thing... I like my privacy. Damn near in everything I do." With that he leaned back in his chair regarding Solia briefly before responding to her final question. "The way I figure it, if or when Searan needs me he'll ring my phone. Besides what better way to advertise then getting out more and mingle. I may be a private man but I am not rude by any means. Strike up a conversation worth my time and I'll oblige." He chuckled lightly watching as young waiter came to their table. "What would the lady like?" Xan breathed with a smile already knowing what he'd order for himself.

Solia smiled, her eyes quickly scanning the short menu. "If you like you privacy and don't like your attention, why did you become a host doesn't that seem slightly counter-productive?" She leaned forward putting her hand together in a thoughtful pose and rested her head upon them. "You always seem so...reserved, like you want to make a conversation, but, you want the person to approach you." She went back to her normal posture. "Forgive me if I looking to deep at your actions, its just a habit of mine, and if you see it as rude, please let me know." She did want him mad hat her, but, she was curios as to how one with his disposition ended up as a host. She smiled at the waiter, not missing a beat. "I'll have a tall strawberry lemonade, with a small lemon scone please."

"Peach tea and banana bread muffin." He responded in kind to the waiter. Taking their order the man hurried about his business as Xan turned back to Solia to regard her a moment. He could be evasive as usual and keep the woman wondering or answer her questions. To him he liked his privacy yes that was number one but he didn't mind light conversation either. However, one flaw was in their current banter, it was focused too much on him.
He sighed and gave a curt nod of his head. "I did it on a whim as a request from a friend. I just signed the application, it was Searan's final decision to accept it or not. Counter productive or not it pays the bills either way and it's not all that bad... " He trailed off looking out the window again with gentle musing. "I don't mind asking questions just don't get upset if I get evasive or shut you out all together. Can't give all my secrets away or there wouldn't be any reason to request my services, now would there?" He chuckled lightly turning to regard her. "Ms. Solia, since we are on the subject, why do you find the need to hang around such a club? You don't strike me as the lonely type. I'm certain you can have any man wrapped around your finger if you gave'em the time of day..."

She looked out the window as well. "Its all right Xan. If you gave away all your secrets, what could I pry about?" She nodded her head thoughtful. "You'd think that wouldn't you? Alot of men do. I work as a body guard, and normally, women body guards rarely get hired or get respect. So, to make up for that, those of us who want jobs tend to...build a reputation that isn't very nice. We have to not only be scary, but mean. Yet, the irony is, if we become too mean, we don't get hired. Most of my clients are women and old men. Old men..well..." She stiffed a giggle. "They can be lechers or they can simply be old men who don't want just big brawny men." She began to play with the fork on the table. "I suppose my reason for the club was...just...a whim I guess. I mean, I could do other things, but..." She sighed."I suppose I don't really have good reason except that I want company that won't try to outdo me in the macho department."

Xan leaned forward on the table resting his chin on the back of his hands as he regarded Solia. "I suppose you have it rough, darlin' can't say that I envy you." He chuckled lightly mint gaze dancing. "For what it's worth you don't seem like a mean, scary person to me. Just misunderstood if anything but women are a lot stronger then men give you credit for. You go through a lot of hardships just to prove that you can do your job just as good if not better..." He went silent as the waiter returned with their selected items, placing them neatly in front of them and sliding the bill on the table. Smiling he thanked the man taking a savoring sip of his tea before speaking again. "...There's nothin' wrong with being soft and inviting, Ms. Solia but I can promise you I have no need of being macho or outdoing you in anything. I have an easygoing stride I'd like to stick to." He let out a soft chuckle breaking off a piece of his muffin. "If I may ask? What made you want to be a bodyguard?"

Solia smiled warmly. "Thank you Xan. Thought." She took a sip of her lemonade. "I'm not sure I know who to be soft anymore. I fear I might have simply spent too much time being macho and mean!" She began to stir the lemonade with it's straw. "I started out wanting to be a cop, but...a few family matters made it difficult to get any job, especially one with the police. So I figured if I couldn't be the law, I'd serve the law another way. A friend in the force told me of a body guard gig and well." Solia raised her glass as if in a toast. "It was all downhill from there." She took another sip. "Though, I don't think I regret it in the least."
