A few thoughts on participating in RPG's.

I hadn't thought much as to posting any sort of rules for the role playing forum, but after some thought I decided to lay down just a few. They aren't set in stone, not everyone is able to wax on for ten paragraphs about their character for every single post for example.

1) No 'god moding'. This just means that you cannot control another person's character. Sheogorath is a sort of God, and if attacked can and will teleport your character to a point above the Isles and drop you. This is not god moding since it is an established fact within the game.

2) Don't copy your character from an anime, book series, etc. This is, to put it mildly... boring. I don't think we will have this problem but I thought I would put it in here.

3) You can have more than one character if you like, you don't even have to let anyone know it's you if it is on another account, but PLEASE don't bring a new character in (who you made a character sheet for and is not an NPC) with the express purpose of killing them. That is what NPC's are for.

4) Don't post several times in a row if no one else is participating. Someone will eventually respond to your post so please be patient. At the moment we have a low number of people in the RP and it sometimes can take awhile for someone to get back to you.

Other things to think about

- You don't necessarily have to come in from Cyrodiil, you can have a character who was born in the Shivering Isles. It is obvious from the Vitharn quest that some places have been populated for generations. If you think you can pull it off, and can stay in character, you can even be a Mazken or an Auriel...

- Joint posting, meaning a collaborated post with one or more players via email or chat, is acceptable and encouraged.

- If you want to leave the RPG please tell us. Don't leave us hanging, we can give you an interesting send off or kill your character off, but only if we know you aren't coming back. If you disappear for six months without warning and come back to find that your character is wandering the hill of suicides as a disembodied spirit you would be annoyed. Anyone who does not post for six months with no messages to the mods or an ooc post about taking a break will end up there.

- Please, please, please do your best to post more than a sentence per post. It is sometimes difficult to respond to 'Rimph gro-Logrob walked up to the others and stuck his hand out' as opposed to 'Rimph gro-Logrob walked up to the others and stuck his hand out. He had a scowl on his face and seemed he would much rather not be touched, but had a duty to be polite in any case.' Try to write at least a paragraph and be as descriptive as possible.

If anyone has any further ideas for rules or just ideas to make the RP more dynamic and interesting, please feel free to post it here. Also if you have any questions they can go here as well!

A few words on Madness...

Unlike the main character in the quest of the Shivering Isles expansion who seemed to be unaffected by the madness surrounding them, Sheogorath has no reason to keep your character sane. In fact, He wants your character to go as mad as possible. That is the whole purpose for the opening of the door, His Excellence is bored Bored BORED! Humans are interesting and he likes to play with them.

So you can drive your own character insane if you like, starting from your very first post. If your character shows no symptoms, you will have the spell "Blessing of Madness" cast on you. What this means is in your next post you will be required to use the Post Action - Roll Dice option, using one 10-sided-die. A higher number means that you are the MOST crazy. You will then have to reflect this in your posts.

For example: say you roll a six, and you decide to make your character an insomniac. Your character would, throughout the next few game days, begin to exhibit signs of exhaustion. Intersperse your dialog with yawns, rubbing of the eyes, etc. Your character would have circles under their eyes, and maybe have slower reflexes. After several days your character would probably start to hallucinate a little bit, it takes at least 48-72 hours for this to happen.

There are so many ways to make your character go insane, and all of them are fun and interesting.

Dementia ideas
- Your character can be paranoid, and check all of their food for poison, or only drink water from a hip flask to keep it out of other peoples hands.

- You can be a hypochondriac and think every germ is out to get you. Wash your hands often and ask people to check your tongue for spots.

- You can be obsessed with pain and death and be constantly wondering aloud which would be the most painful way to die and wouldn't it be so exquisite?

Mania ideas

- You can be a narcissist and constantly look at yourself in every reflected surface, have all of your weapons worked on to make them match and be prettier.

- You can be an artist who is constantly looking for inspiration, perhaps asking your companions to pose for you constantly and berating them for not being in the right light when they are fighting for their lives against some beasties.

The possibilities are endless and entertaining!

Hey sheogorath, since you are the god of the realm our characters are in, don't you think you should control the monsters, and some of the NPCs? Such as the Mazken and maybe the towns people that need us for quests?

That is the general idea, since I am something like the GM but so far you haven't run across any mazken or golden seducers. The closer you get to New Sheoth, the more this sort of thing will come up. I'm working on some ideas right now for NPCharacters and the quests they want to send you on wink

Also you haven't used Wabberjack yet, It could be funny if you turned someone into a multi-colored German Shepard.

I thought that only worked on monsters.

It could work on a person for the sake of madness.

I think I caused this.
I'm semi-proud, actually.

I think good grammar should be a prerequisite in the RP forum, just for the sake of making it easier to read posts.

Well I think if you are going to criticize people in the RP forum, then you should at the very least be polite about it. I'm admittedly a grammar nazi, but even I make mistakes. I've had two years of being an English major before I switched to art, so I know all the rules.

So don't be proud for being a douche bag. If you have constructive criticism, you just might try and offer some help to the grammar challenged instead of being an a**.
