First, I'll be defining what role playing is. Role playing is basically like writing a story with other people. In many ways, roleplaying is very much like improvisational acting, but it's also a kind of game where you have fun with your friends, and interact with them in a real social setting. Each person in a role play will be playing one or more non-original or original characters. Usually, in the first post of a RP, there will be rules for you to read and a character application for you to fill out. While roleplaying, people take turns posting, making their characters respond to other characters' actions, and adding their own parts to the plot.

Following? Good. Now, I'll be demonstrating a simple RP conversation between two characters.

Post:

"Hey Satsuki! How're you doin'?" Kira asked his friend and they greeted each other.

Post:

"I'm fine, thank you. How are you?" Satsuki responded politely.

That was just a basic conversation. Advanced role players will usually put rich description in their posts like this:

The sun was setting and the concrete on the sidewalk was highlighted with a reddish orange light beaming down from the sky. "Beautiful," I whispered to myself. To my left, a huge glowing red ball was reflected in the clear, blue water of the Lake. I sighed dreamily. When I looked up, the first star was already appearing in the sky. I reflected on the memory of that one night with him before he died... how we observed the stars one night....
