According to Gene Simmons' book Kiss and Make Up, Eddie Van Halen approached Simmons in 1982 about possibly joining Kiss, replacing Ace Frehley. According to Simmons, Eddie did so chiefly due to his personality conflicts with Roth.
Simmons persuaded Eddie to return to Van Halen, and shortly afterwards the band released the album 1984; which yielded the band's first #1 pop hit, "Jump".
(So If they said yes, Eddie could've been KISS's guitarist)

Van Halen thank Gene in the liner notes of their first album also.
Gene said he didn't want Eddie in the band because he wanted someone unknown.
He probably figured it would be weird with Eddie in make-up when everyone knew what he looked like and Kiss wasn't unmasked yet.

But seriously that would've been wierd o_O
I wonder if Eddie did go with KISS ..... how long would he have lasted?
How can you quit a band that's named after you anyway ?
If you do then the band minus well quit they don't have the person who started it all.

not many people remember that there's another Van Halen, who plays the drums, Alex Van Halen. i wonder what Eddie would have looked like in make-up? that would be so funny. heart xd
