Have many people delved into the phenomena of the Weird Western? This is my main account, here, and I'd assert that it bears elements of Western, Steampunk, and Horror within... surprised Albeit the Steampunk elements are for the most part imagined - specifically, the mechanical workings of the cross on his back, and of his crossbow. :3

Wild West and Steampunk merge well together. Just look at Deadlands. It had Mad Science, Magick, Western Themes, and Horror in equal parts

That sounds a bit like a description of firefly... Well, it's wild west meets sci-fi fersure, and I think it results in some wondrous steampunk flavoring. I could be wrong <<

Oh yeah. "Cowpunk" as you call it, is actually better known in the media. Just take a look at Wild Wild West. That film with Will smith... That is very steampunky, and in the western setting.
I feel that steampunk is the genre that contains Clockworkpunk, "Cowpunk" and Dieselpunk. I feel that it works best when you combine the time periods of anything in the renaissance/pirate age all the way to the cowboy age, and even the 40's in terms of style... Does that make sense? (just thought I would through that in there)

Sounds interesting. The only thing that i have seen that i would call 'cowpunk' would be wild wild west with will smith, i didn't like the movie much, but the ideas/inventions with the time setting i did. The Deadlands sounds interesting. eek

X3 For a moment I had the most amusing image of a literal Steampunk Cow.
-ahem-
anyway, I've always loved the idea of a steampunk old west. It's been the base idea for a few of my RPs but they never seem to last that long or draw to many people sweatdrop

I'm currently running a Steampunk/Western/Horror RP based on the Darkwatch (as in the "Vampire Western" XBox game) setting in another guild. It's still pretty young, though, and it's not gonna last forever more than likely, as it details the background of several of the guild's other characters among other things it does.
For it's own part, I'm certain I could get a good Steampunk Old West RP going.
I've been designing a setting for the better part of a year, now, though, that includes a Central Continent (based on the European/Victorian idea of Steampunk), an Eastern Continent (based on the concept of a Meiji-Era Steampunk, as well as of a Chinese-style Steampunk), and a Western Continent (based on this exact topic of discussion, of course), but it's pretty epic, and not everybody's into high-power settings.

Nah, the Darkwatch SL is doing relatively fine without a dedicated subforum.

Two sides, same coin, One man to rule all men, What shalt thou do with thine anger, strike thee down? *pokes*
Told ya over IM Take up your sword, Feathered wings take flight, Take a step out from the light, You dont want to lose this fight.
