I was wondering how you all felt about reworking classic peices like these.
I am pagan and an ecclectic witch but I am not wholely wiccan so I took these beautiful peices and reworked them to better suit my path and beliefs. I chose to rework them as opposed to write ones from scratch because there are parts of them that I loved dearly, and couldn't think of a more eloquent way to word them. Anyhow I was just curious about the communities views on this sort of thing.
Blessings to all on their own paths

I'd lean towards saying if you rework the Rede or other specifically Wiccan ethics/poetry, one might want to lean away from calling oneself Wiccan, even in the non-traditional sense. I am all for writing your own personal code of honor; in fact I encourage modern Pagans to do so as we by and large lack a unified system of ethics. I think it is a good idea to keep your own personal code separate from already established ones in the community. In other words, it's not seen as okay to, for example, decide to change out one of the Norse virtues with one you like better if you're claiming to be AsatrĂº.

I tend to agree with you. I couldn't in good concious call myself a Wiccan and change their basic code. For the record I don't identify myself as Wiccan. I am a patchwork pagan who has wiccan influence in my practice.

actually this is a great thing to do! One assignment that a lot of teachers give their students is to re-write a wiccan piece such as what you've stated. its a good way to really get yourself thinking about the way you view the craft, wicca or paganism in general. I think its great you did this on your own! I personally recommend it to anyone... of course even after you do the exorcise you can still go by the original of course. its just a good exercise to get you thinking!

I was refering to the long version of the rede, not the last eight words. Sorry, I should have been more specific. Since they are both refered to as the rede.
