Dark Lord M

PostPosted: Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:39 pm

So I've been thinking for awhile about how important music is to me for inspiration and what not. Without music and songs I wouldn't have half the crap I've got because of how great it gets my mind working. I thought to myself, "Self, why don't I make a thread in the Guild where people can post songs that they've found that have inspired them?"

So here I am, before all of you, posting that thread.

I'll post my favorites that have really got me going. These might not apply to your genre but I thought it'd be cool to see what have gotten other writer's creative minds working.

Jillian (I'd Give My Heart) by Within Temptation

No Fear by the Rasmus

Victoriam Speramus by Krpyteria

Whispers in the Dark by Skillet The song my avatar is themed after now.

I'll probably post more.

Great idea, M!

Songs that have inspired me? Well, there's these two by Dragonforce:
Operation Ground And Pound
Valley of the Damned

Then there's Succexy by Metric

And Killer by The Hoosiers describes a lot of my characters.

That's all I can think of at the mo'. All of it's on my profile anyway.

For some reason I've been into really dark music lately. Well, dark for me at least. I blame my brother

I write fantasy, and all of these songs, dark as they may be, really really make me want to write. I cant even listen to them unless I have the time right there and then to write.
Amarnth by Nightwish
Eva by Nightwish
Rule the World by Kamelot
Ghost Opera by Kamelot
Cry for the Moon by Epica
Our Solemn Hour by Within Temptation
The Howling by Whithin Temptation
Set the World on Fire (fly with me) by Symphony X
Of Sins and Shadows by Symphony X

I heard it in an AMV once and instantly set out to find the band xD.

I'm totally Addicted to music, anything with that dark opera sound, and Within Temptation deffinatly has that in some of their stuff.

Have you ever listened to Kamelot before?

No but I'm simply adoring "Rule the World".

It sounds good, but I hope their other songs are not as intense. I like bands like Within Temptations that are classy and Metal without all that kicking and screaming and making you feel like the singers are going to jump out and kill you.

Soul Society, Anthem, Ghost Opera, The Haunting (Somewhere in Time), March or Maniphesto, EdenEcho, Up Through the Ashes, all of the interludes--those are somewhat tame

The last two albums are really the only ones I like a LOT. Black Halo and Ghost Opera, i personally think it's some of the best music out there.

Roy Khan has a pretty intense voice.

I believe the sounds you're talking about is Symphonic Metal and/or Progressive Power metal. An obscure genre that walks the line between operatic symphony and amazing guitar playing 'oh my god where did that come form'

I love Within Temptation, Nightwish, and Krypteria. Krypteria is a relatively unknown power metal band but they are bloody fantastic. Check out "When the Dust Begins to Settle" and I already posted Victoriam Speramus. I also like "The Night All Angels Cry".

It would be Nightwish, Within Temptation, and Kamelot for me

It would apear that we have very very very similar tastes...to the point of it almost being creepy.

haha well I'm on kind of a different page than the rest of you but I find these songs particularly inspiring:

On the Radio by Regina Spektor
The Sore Feet Song by Ally KerrI could find anything better than this amv...
I Feel it All by Feist
Homesick by The Vines
Tin Man by Landon Pigg--which I cannot find a video for! So I'm about to make one.

Several, several more, but I'm just too flustered by the lack of Tin Man vidoes to think now.
