What was it? How did you feel about it then compared to now? Did you become a fan straight away?
Mine was the movie F&L. I saw that it was directed by Terry Gilliam, so I just grabbed it at the vidio store, I really had no Idea what I was in for. I watched it three times that day. The second and third times were with commentry. It left me totally exusted and mind ********. Im a lot more desensitised to it now but still when I read a good passage in the book that sweeps you alone almost faster than you can read, I get that feeling again.

I read Songs for the Doomed.... that trilogy then Kimgdom of Fear.
Fear and Loathing just scratches the surface.
i adore the story when HST was living in this hotel that was being used for the Miami/Cuba drug trade, and he knew the owners of the hotel. He decided to play a trick on the owner/landlord, who's apartment was right across the way from HST's. He broke into his place, placed a pig's head face up on the toilet, turned off the lights, and giggled all the way back to his room. He waited for hours, staring at the landlord's windows, looking to see the bathroom light come on indicating that he was going to pee, waiting for the landlord to find the pig's head.
the light comes on, and he hears a woman scream. oh s**t! the wife wasn't supposed to find it first!
then he goes through a brief moral dilemma where he feels bad about it, then he says '******** it!' they don't know it's me.
Dammit, I miss him. He tells the best stories.

A friend of mine gave me one of HST books. I cant remember if it was the 78 (76?) campaign trail book or, this other one I dont remember the title of now where he has his assistant get a large panther tattoo on her back. There is a good one in an old playboy also where he is helping someone move a boat that gets taken by pirates. Thats funny because he ends up helping the pirates to some degree.
