Here in the UK many charities make use of things that no one wants any more, such as old clothes, mobile phones etc. They also make some extra cash by collecting used stamps and selling them on to collectors. A big bag (as in, 1kg) of British stamps gets around £3, the same saze bag of foreign stamps gets around £9 (at least, that's what I've managed to work out from watching Ebay, some charities have special deals with collectors who pay a certain amount a month and get sent whatever the charity has been sent).
Anyway, it's a quick and easy way to help charities raise a bit of extra cash. My family has chosen to donate ours to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, once we find a big enough envelope to send them off in.
And here are the long awaited photos of our current stamp collection.
British Stamps:

So you can see how high the pile goes...

Foreign Stamps:

And again, pile size...

Big thanks goes to my Thai housemate Yajai, who cut stamps off the letters her family back home sent and added them to the collection.
A lot of these come from my Nan, who has family and penpals across the globe and so receives a LOT of letters.
