Snake looked around for Taranis, the newest recruit. He was going to take his test and see if he would be in, but he wasn't here yet. Snake let out a huff of breath and fiddled with one of the pouches on his chest straps, waiting.

Taranis trotted to the area he'd been told to meet Snake, Intending to try out for the other hebisune's squad. He had been told there would be a test, and he hoped he'd be up to the task. A mix of nervousness and anticpation caused the tip of his tail to twitch lightly as he traveled.
In a few moments, Taranis spotted Snake up ahead. His pace quickened slightly as he approached the darker-colored kimera. As Taranis stopped near him, he said, "Hello, sir. I'm read for the test you mentioned."

snake didn't look up as the other kimera came forth. "'Bout time. Get to it, the entry's right there." He looked up and grinned at Taranis. "Don't get lost." The course loomed high over the two kimera, its pitfalls and flares lurking somewhere deep within...

Taranis was a little disappointed at the less-than-warm reception, but he didn't show it. He just nodded and turned towards the course. There wasn't much to see yet, but he knew there would be 'surprises' waiting for him, so he stepped carefully as he walked through the entrance. His ears were perked alertly and he scanned his surroundings constantly.

The solid walls of the course shot high overhead, seemingly scraping the sky. A slight chinking noise could be heard, and suddenly, a spiked panel shot out of the wall towards Taranis! ((Randomize 1-2, if you get 2, you got hurt. You can keep going if you get hurt, but after 5 times, it's time to head back. 1 means you dodged, and thusly can go unimpeded. ^^ ))

(Randomizing first, then I'll edit with RP post)
All of Taranis's senses were on high alert, waiting for the traps he knew would be somewhere in this course. His attentiveness paid off when he heard a slightly clinking sound to one side. As a spiken panel shot towards him from a side wall, he dove forward, whipping his tail out of the way just before the spiked panel smashed into the other wall. A little dusty but otherwise fine, Taranis picked himself up and continued forward. He'd cleared the first trap, but it was no time to pat himself on the back; there were sure to be plenty more.

Taranis might have evaded the first trap, but there were many more...many more indeed. For now though, he was safe. The course seemed to be alive, almost, seemingly knowing exactly when to strike, and a feeling of being watched came with entering...all in all, it was immensely creepy.

As Taranis continued on, he wondered if Snake was watching his progress or just waiting to see if a trap caught him. He figured the other hebisune must be watching him, evaluating his actions...which would mean he was somewhere nearby, unseen. It didn't help that he kept getting the strange sensation of being watched. Taranis resisted the sudden urge to look around and see if he could spot the more experienced kimera, and tried to keep his focus on the course. He could not afford distractions.

Silence. The course was completely silent, the eerie, soft noises finally stopping.
But it wasn't for what you'd think...
A flare was jammed in the ground, the mechanism that would shoot it upwards failing. It clicked as it rose and sank, allowing easy detection of the object.
((The flare failed in this one, obviously. XD So you can just go on ahead.))

Taranis paused for a moment to look at the failed flare. Another trap? if it was, it had somehow failed to work. Lucky for him, then. He could only hope he would be so lucky for any future traps. He continued onward, wondering if the sudden silence was due to the flare, or something more ominous.

Unknown to him, Taranis had just come very close to getting the item that would override the traps. The box, which the course was used to, was hidden very close by. The course never sprung traps on Snake, since it thought that he was just a box. A metallic squeal tore through the air, but nothing happened.

Taranis's head whipped around, looking for the source of the noise. Another trap? It didn't seem to have done anything, so maybe it failed, like the flare. Something bugged him about this, though; he had at least been able to see the previous traps, and there was no sign of anything this time. He wanted to make sure it wasn't something worse than a failed trap. He still had the course to get through, though, so he didn't want to take too long. Quickly he scanned the surrounding area, trying to see if he could spot any sign of anything strange before he moved on.

A metal panel swooped down from the right towards Taranis, its three inch thick steel racing towards him with momentum-induced speed. The course did not like this one, this one had been too lucky so far...it must correct its error.

Since he was already watching his surroundings alertly, he spotted the flash of metal as soon as the panel began to move. he leaped off to one side, neatly avoiding the trap. Well, not entirely neatly; as he landed he stumbled and took a tumble in the dirt, skidding a short distance off the path before stopping. Slightly embarrassed, he got to his feet and shook himself to get off the dirt and debris. Looks like pausing was not a good idea, better get back to completing the course. He only spared a quick glance around to make sure the trap had been the source of the screeching noise before he began to move on.
(OOC: What exactly does the course look like? Are the high walls along teh entire thing, or just parts? Since you mentioned the box was hidden, I'm assuming at least some portion is open to the surrounding forest.)

((Nope, it's a labyrinth of concrete and metal, twisting around and around with only one way out, though there's three false exits. It's really tall, too. I'll make a map of it later. >> )) The course's metal parts gleamed in the sunlight beating down onto the earth below, its unrelenting light giving everything a few degrees boost. There was a click-click-click coming from somewhere deeper in, and it rang out eerily through the silent, suffocatingly warm air.
