She had never imagined public transportation would be fun, but after riding the subway to meet Brad for lunch she practically couldn't wait to do it again. First, though, Hae-min was going to sit down with her oppa and have lunch. Then she would go sit and stare at the advertisements in New York's subway system. It was funny to watch them change, and sometimes get stuck.

"I so glad you could make it," she said with a happy smile, straightening her long-sleeved black t-shirt. To tell the truth, she had been worried that someone who wanted to employ him as a Host would take this time away. The thought of that made her very unhappy- but it hadn't happened, so there was no reason for her to frown.

Carefully, she laced her fingers together and looked out the window. It was kind of hot out to be dressed as she was, but she was used to heat from all her gardening. After a moment of watching people pass by, she flattened her hands on the table and leaned forward a little. "Look, oppa... That woman looks like you." She smiled even wider, the thought not even occurring to her that Brad's sister might also live in New York.

He had greeted her with an adoring hug, pleased to see the young woman again so soon after the opening of the Club. Brad was more than happy to take out his sorella for a nice lunch on the town, to sit in her company and forget the small woes of the world. "You look lovely," he said kindly. He was dressed down considerably, with a short-sleeved button-up tee and a nice pair of pants; even if it was casual, it was still a touch nicer for the young woman.

Brad had been sipping the water at their table when Hae-min commented about someone who looked like him, prompting a bemused smile. "Like me?" he echoed, turning his gaze towards the window to see where the woman was indicating. "I doubt any woman would appr--sh!"

He choked. The man physically swallowed his water wrong, earning a few tight coughs and a fist against his chest as his disbelieving indigo eyes momentarily lost sight of the one being indicated. Even though she was a woman, it was impossible to miss the subtle similarities; the hard line of the jaw, the shape of their eyes, the same ethnic skin and midnight hair. But what was she doing here? He was staring out the window so hard he didn't see the person come next to the table.

"Fratello," purred a melodious and dusky voice, "I thought I saw your car outside."

The Host nearly leapt out of his chair, staring up at his sister with obvious concern. She looked like she had taken the day off of work, wearing a dark collared shirt and cargo pants. The identical black colored hair was pulled up behind her head, clipped just so. He had to be grateful she wasn't in her work get-up, that might have outright frightened his lunch date. He glanced to Hae-min, hesitant. "What--"

"Oh my," Alex continued on, bright green gaze shifting to Hae-min. "I'm sorry dear, am I interrupting a date?"

Brad blanched. "Not a d--"

"I see!" She smiled knowingly, looking to Brad. "A customer? You work fast!"

"No! A--"

"A real date then?" Alex managed to look pleased, turning back to Hae-min with a sweet smile. "You're very pretty, I'm impressed you managed to get him to settled down--"

The curse words in Italian flowed fast and angry, standing to loom over his 5'8" sister. "Alex, that's enough!"

She laughed, a clear and happy sound. "I know, sit down B, you're as touchy as ever! Maybe even worse!" she chirruped gleefully at him, rounding to kneel and greeting Hae-min. "I'm Alex. So sorry about that, I haven't seen my brother since he was hired at his new job. You'd think a hermit would come out of his shell being a Host." Casting a sidelong glance at the older man, she grinned, displaying her mirth.

Brad rubbed his temples, not looking at either of the women. He was both astounded and unsurprised that Alex had done that all on purpose. Damn blood relatives.

"Like you," she had repeated, but something had prompted Brad to swallow his water wrong- she had started to get up to make sure he was really okay, but he seemed fine, but then he was jumping up. Hae-min stood also, wondering if he would start doing calisthenics next... and then the lady spoke.

Since she had never studied Italian, she ought not to have understood the relation, but it was obvious if you looked. Obviously they were related- and if she thought back to her studies in Latin, she guessed fratello might mean brother. She met Brad's glance squarely, eyes a little wide at this interruption- not like she minded, if the lady was family of her (adopted) family then she had every right to intrude. To the first question, she shook her head, already turning an adorable shade of pink; at the second, she just stared- sometime she did plan to drop in on Brad at the club, but right now they were there as friends!

And then the third comment, Brad shouted, and Hae-min clapped both hands over her ears until it looked like it was quiet again. It was almost surreal to ever think of her oppa as angry- he had never seemed that way around her before. Actually, she had begun to think that he just couldn't get angry at all.

She bowed in her seat to Alex, but was occupied looking at her friend worriedly. "It nice to meet you. My name is Hae-min." She had seen Brad a lot, and unconsciously she wondered if it had been because of her that the two relatives hadn't seen each other for a while. To cover the (awkward) silence, she started braiding a section of her hair.

"I not dating Brad. He is my oppa," she said, abruptly but firmly. Dating Brad would just be awkward, like dating Tae-yul. Perhaps not like Gin-hul, though, since he practically was a stranger for all the fact that he was only eleven years older than her. "I not thinking he is a hermit, either," she continued virtuously. Heavens, he knew more people than she did, and seemed to have met so many of them in the same frame of time she had been in the United States.

The woman's eyebrows lifted, much as Brad's did. "Opa?" A pause. "Isn't that a type of fish?"

Brad grumbled in reply.

Sighing, Alex stood, giving a polite bow to Hae-min. "It's very nice to meet you, Miss. I'm...very happy to see my brother so at ease again. It's been a long time." Despite her previously jabbed comments, her words were kind, her expression softening.

The man shifted in his seat, indigo eyes finally looking up. "I apologize Hae-min, yes, this...this is my younger sister, Alessandra--"

"Alex, B."

"--who prefers to go by Alexis, hence, Alex." He glanced up to Alex in silent thanks for the words she was keeping to herself. "She's living in my loft while I work at Searan's, keeping it clean. I hope." Brad returned to himself just a little, sighing heavily. His sister was a great strain on him, but she only meant it out of love. No doubt he'd be worse off without her. Maybe.

The Italian woman smiled faintly. "Thanks for the vote of confidence," she retorted breezily at her brother, turning again to Hae-min. "I'm terribly sorry to have disrupted your...er, lunch." She shrugged her shoulders, smiling. "It must seem strange and somewhat cruel, but I have to keep him on his toes or he'll grow moss with how little he does anything."

A grunt escaped him. "I'm not so reclusive, little sister," he used the title purposely, "I have good friends to enjoy my time with." At this, he gave a pointed look to Hae-min, his smile light.

"Of course," she replied, although it was clear she didn't believe him. Going out? Her brother? It was laughable. Instead, Alex took a step back. "Again, sorry for intruding. I'll leave you two to your lunch."

She shook her head, but didn't deign to explain. Brad knew what she meant, and that was really all she cared about. "You do not use your first name? Alessandra is very pretty." The pronunciation came very awkwardly to Min, comprised of syllables she hadn't yet heard strung together as it was. Her eyes were wide, and a little confused. How strange, that someone should pick their own name... Hae-min might have changed her name, because to be named 'bright cleverness' was more unfairness than she or anyone should have to deal with, in her opinion.

"Brad is very busy," she objected, a little offended on her friend's behalf. The two siblings really did have a strange relationship- at least, in her eyes. She had never dared to tease any of her siblings, not even Tae-yul, because he was a boy and such things simply weren't done. If she ever spoke that way to Gin-hul, her parents would have locked her in her room for weeks. "Besides, I not think he is able to grow moss. He is not rock." It didn't occur to her that Alex might be teasing.

For a moment, she was glad the other woman was leaving. This was her time with Brad. But jealousy, she remembered, wasn't very becoming in a young lady. And she had said she hadn't seen her brother in a long time. "Ah... if it is alright with Brad, I would not mind you staying," she lied, with an admirably straight face. The woman even managed a very natural-looking smile. "I would like learn more about Brad's little sister."

Alex's expression twitched between a smile and a grin at Hae-min's denials, painfully amused. She was amused both that the younger woman was standing up for Brad, and that he was letting her. "It's Americanized," she explained about her name, shrugging again as her lips settled on a smile. "I kinda like it."

Rubbing the back of his neck, Brad looked at Hae-min, momentarily concerned. It was near rude to him to invite his blood sister when he had just wanted to spend some time with his sister in spirit. His eyes lowered, considering, before giving a quiet sigh. Between Hae-min's politeness and Alex's strange sense of morals, it would be near impossible to say good bye now. "Yeah, you should...stay for a bit. I know you're busy so you don't have to stay the whole time." He gave his Italian sister an out, should she so desire; he knew how to play the game of manners, to an extent.

She, in turn, gave a thoughtful tap of her lip, keen eyes shifting between her brother and the 'opa' lady. Alex nodded slowly, stating, "Just a minute, then. Thanks." The last part was a little awkward, thanking them for allowing her to stay. She didn't really do much with her older sibling other than banter and tease. To sit down and have a nice meal wasn't something she was sure could be done.

If he thought he'd been subtle with the strange look he'd given her, Hae-min thought he should re-think it. But it really was her fault; Korean morals, after all, weren't American or Italian morals and some things were bound to get lost in translation. She glanced again at Brad, apologizing with her eyes because it would be rude to say it aloud. Didn't he know that she valued her time with him, too? More than ever, now that the host club was open full time? Alex had a claim on him too, though, and it was much, much stronger than Min's could ever be.

"Americanized," she repeated, thinking about that instead of other, more uncomfortable thoughts. It seemed to be pretty disrespectful to one's parents, at least to her. She remembered- vaguely, but she did recall- her eldest sister's months of agonizing over the name of her daughter. A Russian name or a Korean one? Hae-min didn't recall, but knew the middle name was Haneul-yoon. (It was almost worse than Hae-min, she reflected with a tiny sigh.)

Then a thought struck her, and she turned to Alex again. "If your," she paused to think of a good word to use here, "birth name is Alessandra, that is Italian... Is Brad not American name? Your parents very strange," she said, confused. Even though she did her best to hide it, it showed most especially in the way she had leaned forward to rest her chin in the palm of her hand- something Min almost never did. She looked between the two siblings, very plainly hoping for an answer that would not only make sense, but make good sense to her.

The older woman had just taken a seat when Hae-min posed her question. Brad nearly flinched; Alex grinned widely. "Oh, you're a fast one, Hae-min," she practically purred. "Our mother was somewhat taken with American culture, that's why we speak English. Father, he was more traditional. Poor B, he got named--"

"After our grandfathers," he finished dryly. To say he was displeased was an understatement. He had intended to tell Hae-min when the opportunity had surfaced, but this wasn't quite the opportunity he was banking on. Brad had hoped for something a little less...on the spot.

Alex continued to grin like a fiend, the perfect picture of a chesire cat. "I don't like the name," she declared, "so I wont call him by it. His American name, that is."

His expression became blank, a placid surface. Only his eyes gave away that he was uncomfortable, the blue hues a bit brighter than usual. "My legal name here is Brad Lee Falcone," he said after a while, his voice quiet. "My given name is not Brad, though." Way to go, Captain Obvious. Pursing his lips, he glanced side-long to Alex, then to Hae-min, trying not to scowl. He didn't want his young sorella to feel she had stumbled upon unwelcome information, as he didn't mind that part; what he minded was the memories, the ties to the people it had that he'd left behind.

"My father was not very nice to my mother," he explained, "and he and I disagreed quite a bit. So when I left, I disowned him. I only kept my last name for the sake of my mother and sister." Another pause. "I sign my legal documents with B.L. Falcone, so I and I didn't want to change it. Too many difficulties in the legal world. Since I couldn't get any naming help from my family--"

"You left us you twit, I wasn't even in high school--!"

"--I picked two names I thought sounded 'cool.' A boy of sixteen doesn't have much sense of what's cool, but I still like it." His dark gaze settled on Alex, his eyebrows edged in a slightly disgruntled manner.

Slender fingers laced around the man's arm, green eyes lidded with ill intent as his sister smiled at him. "Are you or should I, big brother?"

Brad clenched his jaw for a moment, little more than a twitch by his cheek before he shrugged, as if it were no matter of concern. "My name is Bernardo," he said, his voice taking on the brief hint of an accent he'd not used in a long time. "It's easy to see why I prefer Brad."

She opened her mouth to take the question back the second she saw the look on Brad's face, but Alex was already talking and she would be horribly rude to interrupt. So she sat back, folding her hands politely in her lap and listening quietly. To be named after grandfathers wasn't odd; Tae-yul's name was from grandfather Tae-joong.

"I like the American name," she said softly to herself as Alex spoke. A little rude, yes, but still, to go against one's brother's wishes like that... She reached across the table to pat Brad on the shoulder, already very sorry she had asked- at least here. The whole ordeal seemed to have a bit of a secret about it, though, and she couldn't- wouldn't pretend she didn't like that. As few secrets as she had, learning what others kept close was inordinately fun.

As for fathers not being nice to mothers... Hae-min knew that it wasn't in line with American morals, but she had been taught that once you were married, a woman's place was the home and the man's place was... the workplace. Even holding a job now would make Abeoji very angry with her, because she was engaged. And it was the husband's job to keep the wife in line, no matter what. She bit her lip, looking a little uncomfortable herself and leaning back into her seat as Alex smiled at her brother.

She blinked at the name, mouthing it to herself a few times. "Ber-nar-do," she said aloud, to make sure she got it right. Then Hae-min smiled, because it was fun to say. "I like Brad," she continued sweetly. "Even though Bernardo very nice, too." Brad just seemed to fit Brad better. Bernardo... Well, it was silly, and Brad just plain wasn't silly.

Then she identified something else they'd said. "You leave home at sixteen?" Her brow furrowed. When she was sixteen... Well, whatever. She smiled warmly again. Brad's secret was safe with her!

Either Alex had no manners, or she didn't really understand the deep culture Hae-min came from; it was more likely the latter than the former. She laughed a little, glancing to her brother with amusement. "I'm not even sure where he got it, but I think the middle portion was from that Bruce Lee guy. He wasn't even American!"

Brad cast an annoyed glance at the older of the two sisters, although it was more in a long-suffering manner than genuine displeasure. "Yes, Bear-nar-doe," he rolled the 'r's with his absent accent. "I'll spare you the rest of the name." And himself. He truly had to have one of the most embarrassing names on the planet.

He blinked over to Hae-min, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Thank you," he remarked warmly, using his knee to thump Alex's own in victory, earning a snort from the other woman. At the next question, he nodded a little, his brow furrowing in recollection. "I technically left Italy when I was thirteen." He glanced between the two women to make sure Alex wouldn't interupt; when she remained quiet, he continued. "I opted to take high school overseas, and graduated early. I was supposed to come back when I was sixteen, and never did." He shrugged, his smile a little crooked.

Cupping her jaw in her hand, Alex regarded her brother with surprisingly serene green eyes. "You caused me no end of worry. That's why I came here, after all. Well. One of the chief reasons," she ammended thoughtfully. The other was to inform him of their parents' passing, but that didn't seem appropriate to bring up at the lunch table.

She nodded, happy to feel like she was being trusted with something so important. "Ahh," she sighed. That made sense to her. Tae-yul had often said if he'd been allowed to go to a school far away, he would have never come home. So she could understand that.

Bernardo. Well, gosh, she would have never guessed that was Brad's real name. Not in ten thousand years, not even if her siblings had danced around in- bikinis or something. She blushed that that mental image and shook her head to clear it. To distract from that rather embarrassing thought, Hae-min finally flipped over the sign that the host said would call a waiter over. All of the people she could see were busy, though, so she sighed and began to stack the drink coasters.

It was something she was quite good at- building card castles. Gin-hul, back from lessons early once, had taught her how when she was rather young. And it was a way to pass the time. The flimsy cardboard coasters were almost the same thing, so in no time she had a small pyramid of 'cards'. "Ta-da," she said, shrugging in embarrassment. The shrug itself was something she had picked up in her time in America, mostly because it was rude to shrug in front of your parents and elders, and she had so many of those.
