Quote:
7/3/08 - This is a pirate RP. It's the age of pirates, and there is one place that most pirates know of, called 'The Skull and Cross Bones' tavern located in Tortuga. Pirates of all kinds go there to recruit, chat, get drunk, or whatever else they set their mind to. As either a pirate or pirate-to-be, you have just stumbled upon this tavern and opened the doors..... (-pita-tenko)

11/11/08 - This role play has evolved considerably since it's creation, and we are no longer able to accept new profiles/characters. The characters left Tortuga (maybe for good) around page 93 to begin a life of piracy on the high seas... Long ago we renamed this epic tale 'Tales of the Aphrodite'. (-musapan)

{-Tortuga, Caribbean Islands-}

Alasdair Ebblewhite stumbles upon the Skull and Cross Bones tavern, located in Tortuga, to find a new Captain and Crew, and meets Victoria, the bar maid. Captain Lucien enters the tavern with his cabin boy, Azrael, and Lucien ends up causing some trouble. Alasdair loses his temper with Lucien and the two exchange words until Lucien makes a questionable advance on Alasdair, making the boy uncomfortable. After they talk a bit more, Alasdair finds himself being recruited onto Lucien's ship.
Alasdair and Lucien end up getting to know each other the next few days, and even grow to like each other. In their last couple of days in Tortuga before setting sail, Alasdair meets the crew of the Aphrodite, including Lucien's brother and first mate, Lawrence. Azrael also starts to fancy Victoria, and asks her to come along with them on Lucien's ship, the Aphrodite. Victoria agrees, and they come up with a plan to sneak her onboard. When out and about in town, Victoria meets Sai, a wandering monk in shackles. She frees him, and takes him back to the tavern. Sai meets Lucien and Alasdair there, and fueled by revenge from the people who betrayed him, asks to come aboard their vessel. Lucien agrees.
Alasdair becomes sick that night because of his stomach wound, and while explaining how he aquired his wound to Lucien, the two discover that they have a common enemy. They vow to kill the Gentleman Davis together. Lucien also reveals some of his darker, more disturbing secrets of his past to Alasdair, and Alasdair realizes that he really does have feelings for his new Captain.
They set sail not too long after this, and Victoria is soon discovered by Lawrence, who leads her to the Captain. Lucien becomes furious and punishes Azrael in front of the crew, which sparks anger in Lawrence. The two quarrel until they are broken up by Mr. Henry, the ship's doctor. Through all of this, Lucien allows Victoria to remain on his ship as long as she works.
Later on, Lucien reveals to Alasdair that they are headed to Ireland, to bail his other brother, Luis, out of some financial trouble. At the same time, Alasdair and Lucien both find that their feelings for each other are continuing to grow, and Alasdair is becoming more comfortable with the fact that he's attracted to a man.

{-Dublin, Ireland-}

A week passes, and Alasdair meets Luis, who, despite being a priest, doesn't believe in God and engages in rather unpriestly activities. Lucien wants to show Alasdair the countryside, and so the two go off together. Meanwhile, Azrael and Victoria are seeing the city with Mr. Henry when they are inturrupted by some men who recognize Azrael for being wanted by the law. Azrael and Victoria make a run for it, and end up running into Captain Siegfried while trying to escape the men. Siegfried realizes their dilemma and throws the men off their trail. He then escorts them back to Lawrence, Luis and Mr. Henry, who were looking for them.
Alasdair and Lucien see a bit of the countryside and decide to do some shopping. While shopping Alasdair runs into Elise, his childhood friend. She responds to him excitedly, and Lucien becomes jealous. Elise reveals to Alasdair that she, too, has become a pirate, and her Captain is Siegfried. Lucien goes back to his ship, feeling down, and Alasdair spends the day with Elise. He goes back to the ship later to find Lucien still feeling sour. After they talk for a bit, Alasdair relieves Lucien’s worries by confirming that he has no feelings for Elise other than that of a friend.
They decide to stay in Ireland for another day, as Luis has nothing to his name. Alasdair goes to tell Elise that they are still in town; Elise decides to spend the day with Alasdair, Lucien, Luis and Lawrence. Siegfried goes along with them to keep an eye on Elise. Sai ends up running into them later on, and he and Siegfried start talking. While the three brothers are shopping, Elise takes Alasdair aside to admit her feelings for him. Alasdair ends up having to tell her of his relationship with Lucien, and she finds herself disappointed but insists that she still wishes to remain friends.
As the group is heading back to the ship Lawrence is noticed by locals, and the law is alerted. When approached by the police they fight back, and end up splitting up all over the city. Alasdair and Lucien fight some reward-hungry thugs and find their way underneath the docks to get back to the ship undetected; Elise begins to lead Lawrence to a place she hopes they can lay low, but Lawrence gets shot in the shoulder. Elise reveals her ability to be able to shoot almost any target, from any distance and buys them time while she tends to his wounds. The two head back to the Aphrodite, and Elise gets dragged on board, unable to get to Siegfried’s ship. Siegfried and Sai take out several policemen before being saved by Siegfried’s boatswain and best friend, Gabriel. They head back to the Corbeau Sans Amour, and Siegfried discovers that Elise is on the Aphrodite. They leave Ireland in a hurry, and Siegfried trails Lucien’s ship, determined to keep a close watch on Elise.

{-Oporto, Portugal-}

Two days at sea later, both crews port in Oporto, in order to recuperate and swap crew members. While Siegfried and Elise reunite, Elise realizes how beneficial it would be to both crews if they were to form an alliance. Lucien and Siegfried agree to discuss it later. Watching them from behind some barrels is an orphaned boy named Ritka, and he overhears them speaking of piracy and becomes interested. When no one is around Ritka decides to go get a better look at Siegfried’s ship and is discovered by Elise. She mistakes him for Alasdair at first because of how similar they look, and then realizes Ritka is an orphan. She drags him onto the ship and feeds him, and Siegfried ends up meeting Ritka as well. Ritka instantly becomes infatuated with Siegfried, and Elise manages to convince Siegfried to let Ritka become a part of his crew.
In the city, Alasdair, Lucien, Azrael and Victoria find a homeless puppy, and Azrael convinces Lucien to let them keep it. After Alasdair and Azrael fail miserably at naming the dog, Lucien names is Zeus, despite being slightly against the idea. While buying things for their new dog, Alasdair finds a small stone statue and buys it for Lucien, deciding to give it to him later.
That night, Lucien and Siegfried discuss forming a fleet, and decide to go through with it. Elise introduces Alasdair to Ritka, still amazed with how much they look alike. When Alasair gets back to the ship, Lucien is shoving Luis off of his ship after having found him with drugs. Alasdair convinces him to let Luis stay, and Lucien storms off into his cabin. Alasdair follows to calm him down and ends up giving him the stone trinket, which cheers Lucien up. Lucien gives the order that they are to leave Oporto, and then returns to his cabin. Siegfried’s ship follows suit.
Siegfried learns some dark secrets about Ritka, and ends up allowing Ritka to use Elise’s old cot and sleep in his cabin, as Ritka is terrified to sleep amongst too many strangers. Siegfried starts to feel fatherly and protective of Ritka.
Alasdair and Lucien share some tender moments in Lucien’s cabin, and then Alasdair leaves Lucien to sleep. While on the deck, Alasdair finds Luis on the railing of the ship, about to let himself fall into the sea. Alasdair forcibly pulls him down, and the two share words. Worried that Luis will try something similar if he leaves, Alasdair strikes of a game of Hearts, and Lawrence, who can’t sleep, joins in.

{-At Sea-}

Over a month later, the Aphrodite spots a merchant ship and decides to over take it. Sai reconizes the ship as the El Pollo Feo, the same ship that had sold him as a slave back in Tortuga. Sai rushes onto the ship when he's within jumping range and gets revenge on the Captain of the ship while also reclaiming his stolen items.
Both the Aphrodite and the Corbeau Sans Amour ambush the merchant vessel and board it, fighting their way on board and stealing the goods they find. Just when they believe their work is done, Alasdair notices the Gentleman Davis onboard and alerts Lucien. The two confront Davis with intent to kill him, and Davis manages to hold them off while he looks for an opportunity to escape. Davis finally punches Alasdair where he had stabbed him months before, and boards the Aphrodite in the confusion, taking Azrael hostage. He demands that everyone go back to their own ships, and takes Azrael with him onto the El Pollo Feo. He plans to kill the boy once the ship are far enough away, but Elise points her pistol at Davis. The two agree that Davis will release Azrael to them once their ships are far enough away or Elise will shoot him... Instead, Davis kicked Azrael into the sea and dodges Elise’s bullet, and the El Pollo Feo leaves in haste. Alasdair retrieves Azrael in a dinghy.
Later on, Alasdair tells Lucien about his old friend Fredrick, whom Davis killed. Lucien chooses then to reveal some disturbing items from his past he keeps in his cabin... Alasdair discovers that his feelings for Lucien may be more than he thinks.

Gaia Name - ska-chan-punk-san
Character Name - Lucien X
Gender - Male
Age - 27
Profession - Captain of a relatively small and unknown pirate ship
Background - He was born to a poor English family, the oldest of 9 children. when he was 12, his parents could no longer take care of all the children, and instead of apprenticing him to someone and in their desperation for money, they sold Lucien to a notoriously violent and cruel pirate captain as a slave. The captain took a liking to him because he was quiet, obedient and a pretty boy. even though the captain abused him, He was made first mate when he was older and took over the ship when the captain died. He could not be as violent and cruel as the previous captain... so half of the crew left due to boredom (he is so pretty and "sweet" that they couldn't handle staging a mutiny). The ship lost its fame when he took over, but he is a formidable fellow when someone crosses him. his surname was dropped because he hates his family and has replaced the family name with "X"

Personality - He is a dark person with a sarcastic personality. He has a tendency to detest women. He is not afraid to admit to being a homosexual, but he is not very talkative unless someone strikes his fancy. He likes to fence and enjoys dressing well and keeps clean. he is a bit insane with a lack of emotional control, where he can be very nice one minute, but turn evil the next...therefore, he is prone to mood swings. he has a soft spot for orphans, and tears.

Gaia Name - ska-chan-punk-san
Character Name - Azrael
Gender - Male
Age - 14
Profession - Cabin boy
Background - He was born in London but abandoned at an orphanage soon after birth. When he turned tens years old the orphanage sold him off to a work house, where he was required to do hard manual labor. He became rebellious and when the workhouse overseers could no longer subdue his adventurous behavior they beat him mercilessly and went off to sell him. The man in charge of selling the child was finding it difficult to get rid of the child, and so he went into the black market, where people sold their children as slaves and servants. Captain Lucien happened to be walking through the human market as he was a pirate in charge of smuggling and selling illegally obtained product; he had to go through certain unsavory parts of town. The man pulled on Lucien's sleeve and begged him to take the boy, free of charge. Lucien denied his request, and the man spat vulgarities at him. This is when Lucien knocked the man unconscious and decided to take the boy after all. The child had no name and was still showing signs of the beating he had received. Lucien named him Azrael and cleaned him up. Azrael became Lucien's lackey despite himself, and works mostly as the captian's assistant. He is chastised by the captain for being interested in girls and wanting to leave the pirate world... He did not entirely escape being abused as Lucien is a little on the crazy side, however, he had learned to manipulate his master.

Personality - He is generally sweet and charming. He is talkative when his master is not present. He fears his master as he has seen him do some relatively outlandish acts. He loves the open sea but does not love the life of the pirate; however, he cannot condemn the life for if it weren't for piracy he would have been as good as dead. He is striving to save money to buy his freedom from his master. He is semi-literate and relatively uneducated, but a whiz with a needle and a thread, as well as quite talented with things of the nautical nature. He is much less bitter towards the world than his master, and acts apologetically to those who have been spoken to harshly by his master.

Gaia Name - monmonmon
Character Name - Owat
Gender - male
Age - 16
Profession - wandering, wanting to – temporary- join a gang of pirates.
Background - Owat used to be a cabin boy on a large fishing vessel, and was bought by the captain when he was very young. He doesn’t know much of his background but he usually acts like he couldn’t care less. Owat recently sneaked away, in an attempt to live a more independent life.
Personality - Owat is a somewhat untrustworthy person. While he always behaved in a very good manner towards his previous master, he loved playing 'games' with the crew – like poisoning the food or any other thing he’d consider as ‘highly amusing’ - without getting caught. Owat can be very calculating and is very greedy. He likes to dramatize things or putting up a piece of theatre to get whatever he wants. He’s looking for a piratecrew to join – not because he is missing the adventures on sea, but more because he thinks he can make good money of stealing goods from the captain. Compared to other characters here, he had an fairly easy life and his manipulative nature often saved him from reprimands by his previous master – the captain only caught him once or twice. He is actually quite afraid of any physical punishment or danger. Owat has a hard time finding friends or companionship, as he doesn’t trust most people at all and expect them to be just as scheming as he is himself.
Owat looks somewhat effeminate and lacks physical strength. He has a very dark skin, long black hairs and wears lot of different clothing with fake jewellery and ornaments. The little metallic decorations on his coat make ringing noises whenever Owat moves.

Gaia Name - musapan
Character Name - Elise Finn
Gender - Female
Age - 18
Profession - First mate aboard the Corbeau Sans Amour
Background - Elise was Alasdair's childhood friend who lived very close to his house in Newport, Wales. Her parents were very good natured people who really loved Alasdair, as well. When Alasdair ran away, Elise was beside herself with misery... She had cared about him more than anyone. Not long after the death of Alasdair's mother and his disappearance, piracy came down hard on the town of Newport, and trading vessels came less and less... Business in the town quicky began to die, and Elise's parents could no longer provide for her properly. They sent her to go live with her aunt, (related to her by marriage,) who was extremely well-off. In her time there, Elise spent lots of time reading, and came across letters that her uncle Simon (her mother's brother) wrote to her aunt. While reading them, Simon is expressing the desire to provide better for his wife, as they had no money. He tells her that he found a new profession in which he could get her money, and reveals that he became a pirate. Elise's aunt catches her reading the letter and becomes sad, telling her that her husband died doing that, but managed to get her the money before he died. She makes Elise promise not to tell anyone.
Elise decides that her uncle Simon had the right idea, and after much deliberation packs a few things, leaves her aunt a letter explaining, and runs away to find Siegfried Barrie, a pirate and friend Simon mentioned in the letters. She hopes that Siegfried will help her become a pirate, so that she can get money for her parents. She cuts her hair and disguises herself as a boy and searches for him, and when she finally finds him, he's the Captain of his own vessel and decides to take her with, if anything else to keep her out of trouble.

Personality - Elise is very kind and concerned for others. She often forgets to think about herself if someone else is in trouble or needs her help. She can be slightly scatter-brained sometimes, and perhaps a little excitable and outspoken. She has a hard time doing harm to others, and has learned ways to be a successful pirate while doing as little harm to others as possible. She loves to read and learn, which many tell her is unlady-like. (Along with her habit of always speaking her mind.)

Gaia Name - musapan
Character Name - Siegfried Barrie
Gender - Male
Age - 45
Profession - Captain of the Corbeau Sans Amour
Background - Siegfried was born and raised in Yorkshire, England in a relatively well off family. When Siegfried was 18, he married the woman he loved, and they had their first child together. Five years later they had their second child, and Siegfried's wife died giving birth... It made him love and appreciate his daughters all the more, and he continued his life and business as a Tailor with them.
One day an extrememly wealthy and powerful young heir came to Siegfried and ordered a custom coat, made from the finest materials... He offered an insanely high price, but only if the coat could be made in six days. Too tempted by the money to refuse, Siegfried agreed and set to work. He barely slept or ate the entire time, but after six days he hadn't quite finished the hem on the coat, and his wealthy customer returned. The man seemed amused that Siegfried hadn't finished it, and brought in some lackies to start breaking Siegfried's shop. He was restrained when he tried to stop them. The heir then instructed his men to go and find his daughters. In front of him, his daughters were defiled and killed, and he was knocked out. He awoke to find his shop and house ablaze... He made it out and decided to only live long enough to kill the man responsible. He aquired weapons and gunpowder and killed every man within the heir's mansion, and then rigged the place to explode with him inside... Miraculously he survived, and decided to try and go on living, but as a different person.
He became a pirate to escape the law and his old life. He met a man named Simon aboard his first ship, and became friends with him. When Simon died he continued in his life of piracy and eventually found his own ship and decided to Captain it. A year or so after finding himself a small crew Siegfried runs into Elise, and takes her with him to keep her out of trouble. At first he intended to take her back to her home, but she became very insistant to stay with him and he grew to love her in a very fatherly way.
Personality - Dark, sometimes sarcastic, but extrememly closed emotionally. It's nearly impossible to catch a smile on his face, and if you cross him, he has no problem cutting you down. Siegfried has no real regard for human life anymore, and has killed several people for merely being in his way, even if it was avoidable.
The only person who makes him feel much of anything is Elise, and he's extremely defensive of her.

Gaia Name – ska-chan-punk-san
Character Name - Lawrence
Gender - Male
Age - 25
Profession – First mate of the Aphrodite
Background – One of Lucien’s many brothers, Lawrence was sold to a pirate captain at the age of ten under the impression that he was a little girl and not a boy. When the pirate captain was informed by Lawrence that he had been slighted, the captain nearly went on a rampage to kill both Lawrence and his father. However, convincing the captain he could get the money back for the captain, he pick pocketed several hundred pounds worth of money and merchandise. This eventually became his primary purpose for the pirate crew besides the typical cabin boy responsibilities. When he was 14 the pirate ship was taken by the British navy and Lawrence was spared by the captain of the navy ship, who then apprenticed Lawrence; this lead to Lawrence’s occupation as a navy midshipman. At about 16 he met a young woman and fell in love with her. The year after, they were married and had a baby together. Lawrence felt that he had overcome the troublesome past he had, had and was moving on with his life. One day when he was 20, he ended up working a bit later than he had intended, and when he finally got home, many people were gathered outside of his house, including neighbors and policemen. Someone had broken into his home and murdered his wife and daughter, all for the sake of stealing a few things. Devastated by these events, he spiraled downward and stopped working and took up drinking. He was eventually called to serve, but he didn’t go. After several weeks two navy men appeared at his door to arrest him for desertion. Refusing to go, he killed the two men, and in a drunken rage, poured alcohol all over the bottom floor of his house and set it on fire. He made a run for it, and still in a drunken stupor, decided to kill his father; meanwhile, Lucien had the same intention and as fate would have it, the two ran into each other. Meanwhile, the house fire had spread to a neighbor’s home, and in total Lawrence became responsible for the deaths of 6 people. Lucien took Lawrence back to the ship and sobered him up, and upon realizing Lawrence’s nautical training and intelligence, assigned him to the position of first mate.

Personality – Lawrence is a relatively laid back person who doesn’t tend to cause trouble or make waves. He finds sailing to be enjoyable and loves ships, but he likes them for sport rather than piracy or military. He’s generally passive, and doesn’t like to be violent unless its called for. Slightly awkward around women, but he’s rather radical in his ideas of women’s rights and position in society. He considers himself plain and ordinary, not much to look at or talk to, although he’s very intelligent when it comes to sailing and navigation, and has an incredible amount of theories about the world and after life. He enjoys reading, although mostly he reads poetry, and enjoys badminton. X___x

Victoria rang out the rag she was holding into a bucket and then continued cleaning off the counter. There were a few customers here and there, but over all, it was a slow day. This meant she couldn't over hear many pirates talking about their adventures at sea, and this meant that Viccy was bored.
She got another tankard of beer for a customer and then returned to the polished counter, leaning her elbows on it in boredom.

The doors of the tavern opened, and cool eyes surveyed the area. He raked back a strand of dark hair that fell loosely in front of his face, watching the inhabitants of the tavern cautiously as he entered. His free hand was casually in his jacket, finger-tips barely grazing his knife. He had heard that this was a pirate hang-out, and it was best not to take chances.
He eyed the bar with interest. There was only a bar girl behind the counter, looking rather listless, and he didn't blame her; there were not many customers, and it was a dark, damp day, causing the streets to also be rather bare. Alasdair moved himself to a small, empty table where he seated himself. He lowered his right hand from his jacket... There was no need. No one had paid him any attention upon entering, and he did not feel he was in any danger.

Viccy looks up as the door to the bar opens. Finally a customer! She thinks with excitement. It had been a while since someone new had come in... The customers in the bar currently had been sitting for so long, taking forever to finish their drinks. She watched the newcomer curiously as he came inside, and she noticed his hand was inside of his jacket. not many would have probably noticed it, but then again, she had worked here for two years, and had seen many fights start this way, and other untrusting pirates. She saw the boy relax when he saw the lack of customers. Dutifully, Viccy picked up her tray and a tankard of water, which was very popular with sailors, and brought it over to the boy. "Can I get you anything, sir?" she asked him with a smile. Even if customers were sometimes rude, she liked to be kind.

Alasdair had not seen nor heard the bar wench approaching, and only mildly flinched when she spoke to him. He turned to her to respond, and found himself qutie taken aback; he hadn't expected such a pretty waitress. Normally, bar wenches were-- well, Alasdair tried not to speak ill of women, but they certainly weren't as cheerful, young and perky as this young woman standing before him. His expression, despite what he was thinking, was stone-solid. There was a moment of silence as he appraised her.
"Aren't you a little young to be working in a place like this?" he asked her rather bluntly.

Victoria blinked at the boy, kind of bewildered. "Umm... I guess I just need the money." she laughed after a moment. She saw the boy's stone-like expression and wondered what kind of a person he was. He was very handsome. "Is there anything I can get you?" she asked him again, hoping he wasn't here to start trouible.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 11:52 pm

His eyes lingered on her for a moment longer, and finally he lowered his gaze. He pulled around the other chair at his table and rested his boots on it comfortably.
"You can get me some gin," he said off-handidly.
Alasdair wasn't a heavy drinker, by any means, (when he sailed under a pirate flag, he usually sat by and kept his drunken crewmates from hurting themselves) but he had grown fond of the taste of gin, and it reminded him of the sea.
Casting another look around, Alasdair wondered if there were any pirates recruiting for their crew here. After all, the only way he was going to find the traitor that killed his crewmates was by joining another crew and sailing the seas.

Again she blinked at him. "Gin?" He seemed a little bit young for something that strong, but then again, she'd seen stranger. And she wasn't in any position to agru with a paying customer. "Right away." she said cheerfully. She placed his water on the table for while he waited, and disappeared behind the counter to get him his drink. He seemed kind of rude in a way, but then again, maybe something was wrong. Victoria tried not to judge others, and to try and think of why they would act in certain ways. She got him his drink and returned to his table. "Here you are." she said with a smile. She looked at him for a moment. "So, how are you today?" She thought she could try and see if there was anything wrong by pretending to make idle converstation.

He took a small drink of his gin when she brought it to him, and followed it up with a gulp of water. It wasn't bad, but it was very strong. It took Alasdair a moment to realize that the bar wench hadn't left his table yet. At her question, he looked at her and raised a brow. How was it she managed to stay so perky and cheerful in a dark, dismal place such as this, frequented by perverted pirates and sailors that hadn't seen a woman in months? And why in the world was she trying to converse with him? He regarded her silently for a moment.
"You didn't answer my first question, Miss." he said instead of answering her. "You said you needed money, but that still doesn't explain why such a young, capable lady would be working in a dump like this."

Viccy was slightly annoyed that he dodged her questions, but when he proded her about her money situaition she blushed and looked down. "Not that it's any of your business, but I have two younger brothers to take care of," she said softly. At first she wasn't going to answer his questin, but if she was going to ask him personal questions right off the bat than it was only fair that she answer his.

Alasdair's expression softened considerably at her answer. He felt a slight sting of guilt for being so smart with her before.
"I see..." he said. Her expression suggested she wasn't looking for a pity party, and wasn't interested in hearing an apology for something that wasn't anyone's fault. "Well then, might I say that you are quite possibly the friendliest waitress I've ever been waited on." He scratched behind his head awkwardly. "And in responce to your question... I suppose my day is going fine. I apologize for being difficult," he added, fingering the handle of his tankard of gin absently.

At his compliment, Vaccy blushed and looked down. She was surprised at how quicky his mood changed. Suddenly he seemed very nice and almost sad. She cleared her throat and looked up at him "No need to apologize." she said with a smile. "You're one of the more gentlemanly customers we've had in a long time." At this, she laughed, still blushing.
