Wantari's paws ached. It seemed as if he had been walking forever, though of course it'd merely been most of the day. His mind drifted back to what had first set off his adventure.

**************

He walked behind Setari, trying his best not to be noticeable or to bother his older brother. He froze as Setari whirled around to face him

"Why are you following me?! You are so annoying! Just get out of my sight you indecisive freak! I never want to see you again!"

Wantari knew the his brother was having his usual hard time, and his precious eyeliner had recently gone missing. But what an idea...to just leave the nest and go exploring. No one had ever told him to leave before, and this was a good opportunity. Without a word he left, heading off without a thought into the unknown.

***************

And now he found himself in a strange place with no idea how to get home, and sunset was approaching. He had a sneaking suspicion that he might not be in Udara anymore. He wasn't really sure what to do but no one had allowed him to come home yet. With a sigh he sat down, pondering if it would be ok for him to look for food.

Kurohime was not in Tanah territory anymore -- although since hitting adolescence, she rarely stayed in her homelands. She'd always been a very curious femme, even as a pup, and now that she was old enough that her dad let her leave home without him trailing alongside her she left most mornings as soon as she woke up and returned as the sky began to darken.

Hime was far from home but that was normal, and she knew her surroundings, since she'd visited this place many times. In fact, it was a small glenlike area between the Udara and Tanah areas with a fairly shaded spring surrounded by a few flat rocks. Around this clearing were one or two kinds of fruit-bearing trees. Through a gap in some trees ran a small stream that fed the spring, winding beside a slightly-beaten path.

Hime called this little clearing home, or at least considered it a peaceful sanctuary (if you think sitting alone and listening to the chirps and croaks of forest creatures was peaceful, that is). Making her way towards a sun-warmed rock, she flattened herself out on it and dipped her paw into the cool water, enjoying the mixing temperatures in her body.

Wantari finally came to the decision that with no one around it was fine for him to go ahead and eat, even without permission. He followed his ears and nose until he found a stream. He drank his fill and then followed it, knowing that food should be close to water.

Finally he saw tree bearing delicious looking fruit. His stomach growled noisily, angry at having been neglected. Without further ado he scrambled up, running and jumping though the branches before settling on a thick one with a juicy piece of fruit. He bit into it, the sweet juices dripping as he inhaled the fruit and went for another one.

Now that he wasn't starved he looked about, actually examining his surroundings. Then his eyes fell upon a young looking tokoro. His heart began thumping in panic, he had intruded on someone else territory. And they hadn't given him permission. The fruit fell from his paws, forgotten.

Hime closed her eyes for a while, but glanced behind her upon hearing rustling noises. She spotted the male chomping on fruit, then watched as he noticed her and dropped his fruit. She quirked a brow. Was she really that fearsome? She giggled at the thought of her frightening a big, strong-looking male such as this one. Although from the look on his face he seemed to be pretty distressed by the sight of her just lounging there... weird.

Stretching her legs and paws, she stood up and padded over to the male. She stood before him, looking up from her short height of about 1.5 heads shorter than he. Her long tail flickered and her dark eyes settled on him, and she stared up at him with a calm but commanding gaze.

"You know, you can eat that fruit. Or drink from the springs, or whatever. Tell me your name." She wasn't sure what else to say, so she just waited for his reaction.

Finally here was something Wantari could relate too: orders. Control. She may have been smaller than him but to him that meant absolutely nothing. It was the confidence that he felt from her that he latched onto. At hearing her demanding voice he immediately relaxed, able to focus and act normal (well...for him).

With a soft voice he replied, "my name is Wantari, Miss." He stared at the ground as he talked, not daring to look into her eyes. "I didn't mean to intrude, if I had known you were here I never would have done such a shameful thing."

Uh. Wow. Hime was appalled that she really did have power over such a big (but apparently not-quite-as-strong) male. He seemed a lot more at ease with her bossing him around. This was a very new experience for her and it just so happened that it inflated her ego... a lot.

She continued to watch him, lifting a paw up to tilt his head so that his eyes met hers. "Look me in the eye, Wantari. And don't call me Miss. My name is Kurohime, but call me Hime." She liked being called Hime, since it meant princess. "You're not intruding, and eating and drinking while you're in need of nourishment is not a shameful thing. Eat and drink your fill, and only when you're satisfied may you join me, and we'll chat."

With this she returned to her rock and seated herself upon it, balefully watching him. Despite this strange turn of events, she doubted he'd listen to a teen who was barking orders at him. He was a grown tokoro... how rediculous was that?

Wantari...was in Tokoro heaven. The next few minutes of his life were perfectly mapped out with him. Address the Miss as Hime, eat, drink, talk. He would have preferred to just talk to her, but he was a bit hungry, and he had been told to eat his fill. He picked up the slightly bruised fruit and bit into it, trying to chew quickly without making a mess.

He ate until he was full but not stuffed before going and taking a long drink from the spring. It was now time to talk to her. She had caught his interest, his family who had dealt with him his whole life barely knew how to cope with him, yet here she was doing exactly the things he desperately needed.

He paced over towards her rock and sat on the ground next to her, forcing himself to look her in the eyes. "Is there anything you need Mis...Hime?"

Hime didn't know what to think. This tokoro apparently couldn't function quite right without someone to follow him and boss him around. What a strange thought. At first glance he looked almost... normal. She watched him eat, drink, and head over to her.

She shot a quick look at him when he said "Miss". "Remember, it's just Hime." She stared at him for a moment. Was there anything she needed? No, not really, and it was weird that he had asked her. But she was having fun, and he seemed to want to be her servant, but for what reason she couldn't fathom.

She was enjoying the powertrip. Trying to sound as commanding as possible, she said, "Bring me a piece of fruit, but make sure it's not over or under-ripe."

Wantari scurried off to go find her the perfect fruit. He scrambled up a tree, looking for a good one. He finally found one perfectly ripe but it looked as if a bug at nibbled on it. That was when his eyes fell on the perfect fruit. It was higher up still, and in a hard to reach place, but he was fairly certain he could reach it.

He stretched his tired muscles, rolling his shoulders and went to work. He ran along the branch he was on, using it as a springboard to get up to the next branch. He clambered up another branch and then reached out to pluck the fruit. Carefully he brought it back to him and he cradled it close to him as he slowly made his way down.

He walked over to her and held it out for inspection. "Here you are Hime."

Hime watched Wantari searching for a piece of fruit, of all things, for her. Because she told him to. She quirked a brow and watched as he darted about through the branches and finally scuttled down the tree.

Once he made it to her, she took the fruit, feeling a little ashamed of herself. "Uhh... thank you, Wantari." She smiled softly and bit into the fruit. "It's perfect." She chewed on the fruit, wiping her face once she was finished eating and setting the seeds aside.

This was such a weird situation. Why was he... the way that he was? She cocked her head a little, gazing at him intently. She had a thought and wondered how he would react to such a situation. Only one way to find out!

"So, Wantari, is there anything that I can get you?"

At her reaction a slow grin grew on his face, and he ducked his head again, absurdly happy to have pleased someone. He loved making others happy, and it was a bonus when they ordered him. This was working out perfectly. And he didn't have to make decisions either, which was always a plus. Finally someone who understood what he needed.

She spoke again and he looked at her. Then he flushed with embarrassment at her question. She had asked him what he wanted? That wasn't how it was supposed to work. She was young still though. He was a bit distressed as he answered. "Oh no Hime, if anything I would want to help you. Surely there is something else you would like?"

Except, Hime didn't quite understand what Wantari needed. He seemed quite proud of himself for earning her thanks, but distressed when she asked him if he needed anything. That was weird. Wantari was weird. This entire situation was weird. And she wasn't entirely sure how she felt about it.

The colors in the sky had begun to change and she glanced upwards at it. "Oh, the sun is setting... I should really get home, or my parents will be mad at me." She frowned at Wantari. "Do you live around here?"

Wantari shook his head, "I'm not really sure, I think I've gotten a bit lost. I live in Udara though."

He got a look of concern on his face. "You won't be in trouble will you? You're parents will be fine right? And can you make it home ok?" He was worried, being in trouble with ones family could be bad for most...just not his parents. So he really wasn't used to that.

"Udara? That's not very far at all. Follow me." With that, the teen started off, winding past the path beside the river and veering off toward the right, fully expecting the male to follow. She continued to speak as she travelled, "Naw, I think my parents will be alright. I know my way around here so after I get you home I can go home myself. Do you recognize any of these surroundings?"

Wantari followed her obediently, and finally saw a familiar clearing. "I think I know where I am now, thank you for you help Hime." He gave her a slight bow. "And I hope you find your way home safely. If you need any help at all please just let me know."

He walked into the clearing and headed home. Before he vanished from sight he took a last glance behind him, he'd definitely remember this one.
