It has come to my attention that the guild is no longer as prominent as it was in earlier stages. This is mainly because the target group we have been picking at are the pirate classes; most of which are portrayed by people who do not understand the basic motifs of RP and cooperation between others. I can fix this.

What I propose, is to make the United Pirates of Gaia no longer a pirate based guild. HOWEVER, this is not going to stop the pirate aspect to die out. Instead, this guild needs to be open to more than just the pirate aspect. It needs to be open to all those who fall under the catergory of 'criminal'. Be they passersby or potential resident, I say we convert the place into a open house where all types can hire, build, and manage their way into a sort of machine. No longer Pirates of Gaia, simply Provoka. A Isle home to the bowel movements of society.

Thoughts on this, or is it too bold?

This guild's inactivity requires bold action, Daithes. I'm all for changing the direction of the guild and expanding our user base beyond pirate fanatics.

Generally speaking, RPGs such as this live and breathe on conflict, competition and factionalism. I think, humbly, that we should expand our "world" to a much larger scale, to include the island of Provoka but also the rest of a fictionalized version of the planet.
In my absence I have been dreaming up a general idea of a plot surrounding an alternate time-line in which a vast imperial presence threatens the earth with domination, but is opposed merely by petty, squabbling factions including revolutionaries, pirates, traders and forces of varying inspiration generally. As this imperial force would be a global one, it offers plenty of freedom for RPers as their character's can be from any world culture, both real and fictional. Magic, bizarre technology and other eccentricities would be fine. It's an entire alternate earth, it doesn't follow our rules. What it would retain from our current guild is that it would be set in a 1700's-1800's period setting, with pirates being an important faction.

Now, I know the idea of an "evil empire" is an abused one. But, I have my reasons. The image of wigged aristocrats, musket toting imperials and all the twisted ambition of history's imperialists finally coming to fruition in a period setting just really appeals to me. Users can either become members of this fictional imperialism or create an opposition group, or anything else that catches their fancy. It would be a completely open world, defined by the fact that it's in a fictional period setting.

Now, maybe I'm the one who's being too bold. This all just suggestion. In short, I agree with Daithes' general sentiment of a radical new direction and also have some ideas of my own about it.

I am actually opted to focus this on the Gaia Mainstream. A vast majority of the people who RP with this concept in mind are a fairly decent folk, and are avid supporters of massive events. This audience THRIVES on good storyline and plot, as well as developing characters and such.

Needless to say, the technology standpoint will remain in the same theme. However I was thinking on sprinkling in airships and whatnot during events. Now, Kurisutofa, don't jump off your rocker, but I was considering a potential flash-forward development on Bridge Town. Say, a few hundred years after the whole Natas ordeal, in which the town has been burned-down, reconstructed, and re-established as a center for trade of illegal substances and an overall outpost for those against the international trade thing. Basically what Bellamy was shooting for, but with more emphasis on the whole LETS GET TOGETHER AND BLOW THOSE OTHER GUYS UP.

Absolutely. This thing won't survive if it's just a lot of old salts drinking together. Interpersonal conflict, international conflict and conflict, conflict, conflict in general is a must.
Think Star Wars. The series is so designed so that when you think things can't get much worse they do. Escape into the garbage chute? There's a monster in the damned garbage compactor! Monster disappears? The frickin' walls are closing in!

We need constant conflict and we need to design this so as there's always the possibility that users can create their own conflicts; which results in adventure and intrigue and good times had by all. Which is why I think we need to encourage factions. Hopefully, of course, not in the form of pig-headed "durr, i attack u now" style play, but in well thought-out and sensible role-playing which we can encourage with an active moderation crew.

Just my two cents again ...

I am thinking something envolving a sort of region-oriented bias/class bias. The Opium dealers hate the High Council, the High Council hates the Proca, the Ogubou Bone-throwers hate the Council but love the Opium dealers, and the Proca hate everyone. Except the gorillas, who are just here because everyone needs a tank or two. Not to mention, the Pirates hate the Ogubou, but heed the council, and the Scrappers (those who scrap and outfit the ships) are allied with the Opium Dealers and Pirates. The Merchants also dislike the Council and the Ogubou, but put up with both because they have to make deal with the Opium dealers. Frenchmen like the Opium dealers, hate the pirates, hate the Ogubou, HATE the Proca, and of course HATE THE COUNCIL.

The Red Coats, well, they hate everyone.

Well, seeing as how the Guild seems pretty much doomed anyhow, I support this Shift of Diversity. In all I believe we need to embrace it fully and see where it takes us.

So, let's start from the beginning shall we? I'm thinking retain all the main history of Provoka and deconstruct everything - from the tavern to the bluffs. The Procans will go that of the Caveman, the Pirates will have moved on expect those who made Provoka thier livelihood and everyone else inbetween will have gone onto better things and then had brought those better things back to Provoka.

That being said, let us take Provoka into the Age of Steam, Airships and Aristocracy. Ladies and Gentlemen... Provoka's going Steam-Punk.

Thank you for your show of enthusiasm, Mr. Daithes. Now, let's get this puppy movin'.
I'm going to need a lot of help from everyone who's willing to help.

Let's rebuild - keeping Steamboy in mind.

Very well. Steam-punk it is.

Request 1. I'd like it if we could keep our history somewhat intact, though. Chuck everything in the Lagoon for nostalgic reasons. It's not as if we'll have any hosting trouble, right?

Request 2. Now that we're moving away from the era of piracy and into an alternate future (or past, depending on perspective), could this be an opportunity for me to develop my empire scheme? Imagine it, all the pride, arrogance and splendour of an aerially enforced imperialism. Grand, royal red airships conveying on an ocean of cloud. Huge, grandiose metropolis governed by arrogant and repressive aristocrats.

In this new world I will now become my own descendent, John Bellamy the Third. I've been looking forward to change ...

The Lorebook is the foundation of the new society, which is why I was so hellbent on getting a small faction of help to write it up.

Sounds good. Lets make any existing member who share a direct correlation of the bloodline from a High Council member 'High Society/Rulers'.

Whatever qou believe will get this thing up and running.

Lets stop beating the dead horse.

Because the way it went in my head was: Natas married me with no interference, gained mass power, island/world blew up, end of story.

So starting a new seems just fine to me. I will assign That Man a new role. Don't know yet, depends on my needs.

^_^

Remember, I'm a lurker. I see and hear all. I strike when the time is right.

Any new art work needed, just ask. New guild, new look is what I say.

Couldn't pay for the server, eh?

I had it so that Myere and Vincent showed up in the brink of time, the potion was concocted, and Natas was killed. But in the process, the Governess was shamed by the trouble she had caused, and went away while the Isle Deed was handed over to Kurisutofa. During his reign, he had a son, who also had a son, Cochrane. Iĺl fill in that timegap on a later notice.

Wickit is still sleeping, and his message is still etched into the cliffs of Provoka. Only its faded and dulled by the passage of time. Not to mention the Tribes are smaller. Enola is now an elder. They have guns, and there are some inbreds. Most of the generation following Enola got knocked up by the townsfolk. So there is some racial tension there. The menacing Ogubou are still around, although not in physical form. Maybe some sort of ghosts which inhabit the now inactive volcano. Lava-plains? Yeah, that could work. Ogubou are ghosts who haunt the lava plains. The offspring of the Gorillas have become dedicated to the Ogubou Druidic thing.

Brainstorming. Whatcha think?

Being fairly new to Provoka, (I joined right around the time this place was dying), I can say little of what to do to preserve it's history.

What I can say is that, as far as creating lore for the new setting, prominent historical figures need to be created. Both heroes for the kiddies to idolize and villains for them to hate. What I mean is, the new age that is being created will need it's own version of Lord Nelson and such, it's own historical figures responsible for shaping the world as it appears in it's current state.

There needs to be a new system of government. For the Piracy thing, the prominent faction was always a Monarchy, England. Something new will be needed. Perhaps a large Syndicate could be ruling the majority of the known regions of the world. The governing body is neither good, nor evil. - I'll elaborate more on my own ideas later.

Right now my point is that while preserving the history of what this place was is indeed important. If you want this roleplay to be successful, Every detail of this new world must be thought out. if anybody has any skill with the cartographic arts, a world map would prove extremely useful. We cannot expect that the face of the world would have remained the same.

That should be enough prattling from the new guy for now.

Should this map be of the world or our section of it? And what features would be needed? (I know trains, docks, air ships?)

New guy? You are older in this game than I am, Doc. I have seen you around plenty.

As far as history goes; we already started to document it in a yet-to-be-brought public Lorebook. Its in the Council archives. Which answers your second idea. The Council descendants will remain in their position. With the exception of a few hand-picked people (storyline-wise). They have always held a consensus on trials and troubles throughout the Isle, and they seem pretty efficient in getting things done while pleasing the majority.

Historical Figures are as follows:

    Heros
  • Captain Leon Wickit
  • Captian Kurisutofa
  • Captain Angevin (?) Gunn
  • Doctor Morgan
  • Myere Vanstring
  • Masters Warwood & Vincent Daithes - pending, I dislike self-promotion cause it makes me look like a d**k.
  • Hydrogelic - Cats.
  • Captain Darkwhiskers - Fred. He would make a good bedtime tale.

    Villians
  • Natas
  • Brothers Jacques (Those French guys)
  • Ogubou Bone Throwers

Pending
DK Clan - they are pretty much neutral and have only been used twice. Once when the alpha male was killed, the other when we invaded the Ninja Villages.

Arthur Rudd - I was planning on using this guy as a revenge ploy for all of us killing his prize gorilla. Sets fire to the town and makes himself his own ruler to the survivors?
