Does it seem like a good move for NASA?
Of course it does. They know what they're doing.
  Not really. I think it's a mistake.
I'm not sure - I'll have to wait and see what happens.
What? I didn't hear about this!

Being a Florida girl, I was initially quite distressed to hear that NASA will be ending it's current Space Coast launch program in 2010, only to begin a new one (with disposable rockets, no less ... confused ). My concern stems mostly from Earthly matters, such as the reliable prediction that cities from Melbourne to Titusville will dry up like a melon patch in a summer drought, and the huge number of layoffs the transition is said to bring. But then I started thinking ... disposable rockets? WTH does that mean? Will they be recycled or left out to add to the human-created flotsam and jetsam of space? And what improvements does this change hope to accomplish besides cutting back on employment costs? How will it be a better program?

I'm still looking for answers, but I'd be very interested in hearing your questions and speculations.
So, what do you all think about NASA's new agenda?

I think this is a mistake! I heard that from the moment NASA stops using the Space Shuttle to the time they start with the new disposable rockets, there will be a few years gap! How is that? NASA without space launches for a few years!?!?! this looks really bad...
They say they're going to use Russian rockets during that time, but can we rely on the Russians for that?

I think it's a good idea. Going back to the moon and then later Mars. We should have done this earlier! Although I love the space shuttle I think it is old technology. I costs way to much to lanch and were kind of stuck without moving forward in space exploration. I mean forty years ago we went to the moon. 40 years!!!! We should have been to Mars years ago. We haven't done much after the space race and I think it is time. I heard somewhere that China is interested in going to the moon too. I think what we need is a second space race to get us moving again. smile This is a good start!
