I honestly would probably not let anyone turn my story into a movie. I don't like the idea of it having all the wonder and imagination sucked out of it.

The only exception to this rule is if Guillermo del Toro offered to help write the screenplay and direct. I love his work, he's a brilliant artist. Even then it would be a major stretch, everything would have to go through me first.

I would not be happy with the idea. Authors get very little say in the production of a movie and often times the story line gets butchered.

I'd let them butcher it. Because it means that someone read my work, figured it was good enough to publish, and figured it was worth spending money on to make into a movie.

Oh.. and we all know the book's better than the movie wink So... that would only create more of a reader base.

And thank god no-one's asked for what actor should play what part, because I'd have to be honest and say I have no idea.

I think Del Toro would be perfect for my stories. There are monsters, violence, magic, and there are a ton of roles Doug Jones could play. biggrin

I once made an entire casting lists of actors I'd like to see play my characters. -____-

I want mine made into a game by Nippon Ichi software! I'd do all of the stat crunching for it. I do that for the games they make now biggrin .

@ the title:
I'd cry, because I don't like any movie adaptations except LotR, because I hated the books and Aragorn is HOT.

I... would love it. Absolutely. Movie adaptations are never as good as the book, of course, minus a few exceptions, but they're meant to be cut down and edited into two hours or less, not be five hours long.

Now, I'm not saying that as an excuse for movies, but a lot of them are done fairly well, considering.

IF my books were made into movies, however, I would negotiate the contract so that I either had an extremely involved say like J.K. Rowling did, or I'd write the script myself, like Orson Scott Card is doing for the Ender's Game movie. XD Lucky b*****d.

Plus, I would love the money. What can I say? I like to buy stuff.

Del Torro is definatly the only directer out there right now that i would even let touch my work. His style suits it perfectly though. The monsters and magic and the darkness to his art even the music.

I dont think anyone out there right now realy suits my characters =, but i'm uber picky and would be uber picky with my casting.

I'd scream and cry and probably throw a fit...and then I'd sell the rights.

Everyone knows at this point that they'd butcher the story, especially the moviegoers. And if the movie's good, how much better will the book be? Look at how Eragon got so many sales, despite its 'quality.' And it was STILL better than the movie.

It's a great strategy to get you recognized as a serious author, and a sure-fire way to make sure you get what your story's really worth the next time you go to publish a book.

Just make sure when you sign the contract that you hold onto those movie rights. The Tolkien family got utterly, horribly robbed because they agreed to a bad contract.

I'd rather have Tarantino direct than Del Toro, but I think that just fits my story better.

I think I'd like having people say my work was so much better than a movie director's, especially if said director was Tarantino.

Well, I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm really a screenwriter for movies and not so much a novelist! Okay well, maybe both. I want all of my novels turned into movies. I see them as movies, and I want my audience to see the story unfold as I see it i n every detail... and I want them to hear the music and so on. The only way I'd let my novel be made into a movie is that if I was the director, producer, script writer, costume designer, casting director, etc. I would need to have full control. But then, once I had that control, it would be AWESOME.

Anyway, for the one novel I'm writing now, I could work alongside Tim Burton. We could co-direct or something. It's the kind of style that well... I think my novel was in part influenced by a lot of his movies, so it'd be awesome if he helped direct. Helped.

The only works where movie adaptation is a major no-no for anything is things with Cosmic Horrors. Anything else has the potential to be good, but you can't translate a Cosmic Horror into a movie. It just doesn't work by definition.

As for my stuff? Definitely, BUT it would have to be all CG. Actors are all fine and dandy, but two of the five major characters in my current project are secretly the same person, which would become glaringly obvious with the same actor, in addition to that the whole issue of three-person aerial battles - in actual 3D (as in, not just a flat battle in the air) - don't work too well with wires. Add in interaction with things that aren't physically there and CG becomes pretty much a necessity for it.

I wouldn't like my story into a movie. I wouldn't let anyone mess it up like so many books were messed up. *cough* Blood and Chocolate *cough*.

I'd make sure I had a veto right in the directing of the movie. I'd bribe or do favours to get my will through on this. I dream of seeing my story on the white screen, but if it's done in the wrong way, it wouldn't be worth it, I'd be so disappointed. I have to have a say in it.
