The eggs lie upon the hot sands of the hatching grounds, their shells hard and tough. The queen guards her eggs constantly, never leaving them for even a second. She is especially protective of her most prized progeny; three queen eggs which she keeps between her massive forearms.
Any day now the shells will crack. The small dragons will crawl out of the shielding embrace of their eggs and change the lives of the candidates forever.

The entire weyr resonates with the sound of humming dragons. The hatching has begun.
((There are: 3 queen eggs 5 bronze eggs 13 other eggs (dragon type cannot be determined)))

Danika reached the Hatching Grounds out of breath. She paused outside long enough to catch her breath.
This was it, the moment that would change her life! She knew the most she could hope for would be a green, but that was just fine, just as long as a dragon found her suitable.
Taking one last deep breath, she entered the Hatching Grounds. She quietly walked to the place that the candidate master had shown them and stood there, waiting.

Ty stood in the entry way to the Hatching ground from the bowl. The huge crater of the volcano had been made to fit hundreds maybe even thousands of humans and many dragons as well. On the sands sat three queen eggs, five bronze eggs and 13 unknown ones. The queens glimmered slightly, THREE?!?We have three queen eggs? I wonder who will get them? Maybe I- No don't fool yourself Ty, your'll get a green and be happy with that. But- maybe...NO! don't get your hopes up. Consentrate on the newcommers Ty turned around, a grin on her face. How will they react, she wondered.
~~~
Zane walked in behind Ty and stopped dead. He had had no idea that this great structure, was it a volcano, could house anything this great. It was huge. There was the opening in the top, where dragons could carry the candidates and their riders into the hatching grounds. Near the top were the leadges where the dragons were to sit. Below them were the stadium like seats for the guest of the candidates and other dragon riders and or course the Masterscraftsmen. He and the rest stood on a leadge, over what looked like sand. On the sand, set three golden eggs, five bronesh-bronze and thirteen other ones. What are they here for? Whatis that humming?
Delnan sprints through the main entrance to the hatching grounds, panting heavily, pulling his slippers on as he goes to protect his feet from the hot sands. He ran because he was worried about arriving late to the hatching, but when he arrived and saw the small amount of people gathered there, he realized that he could've taken his time. He jogs up to Tydelia, feeling the heat of the sand through his thin slippers. "Hey, what's been going on? Enith showed me some jumbled pictures of, like, fire in the sky, and some sick people at Southern Weyr... What's going on, and," he notices the small group of teenagers gathered behind her, "who are they?"
Danika walked over Delnan and Ty. "I just got jumbled up emotions and images. But I think that there is some disease at Southern Weyr, but that's just a speculation."
She looked around at the eggs on the sands. It was an amazing clutch with THREE queen eggs. She knew that she would probably end up with a green, but there was a small glimmer of hope for a queen.
"Isn't this exciting? The hatching and all?" she asked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alex looked around at where they had been led. It was warm here and there seemed to be a bunch of huge eggs in over by a great gold dragon. He stood off to the side, supporting Karie, and watched to see what would happen.

((OOC: NPC time!))
F'tarl, Zephyth says that L'ron wants us to make sure that the newcomers are in the stands, not on the hatching sands. Apparently, they are only going to observe. Said Thoth, F'tarl's blue dragon.
F'tarl looked around, searching for the strangers that had been brought to the Weyr. He spotted them and walked over.
"According to the Weyrleader, you strangers are not to attempt to impress. You are only going to observe. Follow me," he said, grabbing the arm of the one closest to him, taking the boy to the stands. Then, he walked over to the others and grabbed another, and repeated the process.
------------
Marcus sat down where the man had taken him. He hadn't understood the things the man had said, but he got the idea when he was dragged over to the stands. Obviously, they were not allowed on the sand. He thought about this, puzzled, but decided it would be best to do as the inhabitants wanted.
"I think they want us to sit over here," he said to the others.

Alex nodded and followed the man who was directing them. He sat down next to Marcus. "This is an interesting experience." he commented.

Delnan blinks, watching the strangers being led away. His confusion is obvious, but he shakes his head and lets it pass. "So you guys don't know about the fire in the sky that Enith showed me?" He supresses a huge yawn, and repeats his other question. "And, again, who were those strangers?"

Danika looked at Delnan. "The fire in the sky was something exploding. And those strangers are the survivors of that, or so that I can gather."
She looked back out across the sands anxiously. The wait was going to kill her. She shook her head and took a deep breath. She could wait, she WOULD wait.

Delnan's eyes go wide. "Something EXPLODED???" He stares at her. "And the sound didn't wake me up?" He looks at his hands, embarassed. "I've GOT to do something about my sleeping habits..." Then he looks at the survivors of the explosion, and his tone changes. "Those poor kids..." Then he realizes that most of them are probably older than him. "I mean... poor teens...? Er.... Strangers...? Um... Poor... them." He shrugs.

Delnan blushes. "Well, yeah... I know, but... Well... I called them kids, and... well, some of them look older than me, so... I didn't think it was appropriate to call them that..." his blush dissapears as he realized that Danika was kidding around. Then he chuckles a bit.

"I'm going to go and sit down, allright, Sweet?" Selora says to her queen dragon. Ruketh grumbles, but agrees. The sand is much too hot for you to be wearing no shoes. Go sit. The Weyrwoman nods, and walks over to her seat. She sits down and watches as the people of the Weyr slowly enter, one by one. She looks over at the Terrans, wondering about them. Since she's been on the hatching grounds, she hasn't heard a lot about the newcomers.
