As I have been reading Jane Austen's novels, I have come across numerous quotes which I especially liked, and wanted to remember. After searching the topics in this guild, I found no thread dedicated simply to quotes, which is why I am creating this one. In this thread, I would like to have members of the guild post some of their favorite quotes from Ms. Austen's novels. To keep it from becoming just a bunch of quotes, I would like to have people also provide feedback about the quotes that others have posted. However, I would like to ask people to please select the quote button in the upper left-hand corner of the quote that they are talking about, so as to avoid any confusion about what quote is being referred to.

Also, when posting a quote, please include the title of the novel that the quote is from; the page number and all other information is not required, as there are many different editions of the books.

If there are any questions, or you are unsure about something, feel free to PM me or leave acomment on my profile, as I will be able to read those sooner than I will a post left by people, though I will try to check the posts routinely, and add my own favorite quotes and feedback.

I love that first quote you have. That's one of the one's I was planning on adding when I finished posting all my quotes from Pride and Predjudice. I've loved reading since I was litte, and have found that you can learn a great number of things just by reading.

"Your sweetness and disinterestedness are really angelic; I do not know what to say to you. I feel as if I had never done you justice, or loved you as you deserve."

"You wish to think all the worl respectable, and are hurt if I speak ill of any body. I only want to think you perfect, and you set yourself against it. Do not be afraid of my running into excess, of my encroaching on your privelege of universal good will. You need not. There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more I am dissatisfied with it; and ever day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and one of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of either merit or sense."

"...[he] is a conceited, pompous, narrow-minded, silly man; you know he is, as well as I do; and you must feel, as well as I do, that the woman who marries him, cannot have a proper way of thinking."

"You shall not, for the sake of one individual, change the meaning of principle and integrity, nor endeavor to persuade yourself or me, that selfishness is prudence, and insensibility of danger, security for happiness."
