I want to apologize for my lack of posting lately; However, it is for a very legitimate and(I personally believe) a very important reason.
For those who haven't yet heard this on the news or from other sources... In past months, there has been an uprising of truly epic proportions on the internet. The previously infamous web group known as Anonymous has made a stand against the Church of Scientology, claiming its goal to see the "church" dismantled and destroyed. Scientology has labeled Anonymous as nothing more than cyber terrorists and have slandered them in the media.
However true it may be that the original Anonymous is and/or was a group of cyber bullies and hackers, the current representation of the group tells a different story.
It all started in January of this year when a leaked video of Tom Cruise, from a Scientology promotional video, was(or attempted to be) removed from the net by the organization. The removal enraged many, resulting in a sudden unified response towards the organization. A video was posted soon after, proclaiming Anonymous' intentions to "destroy" the organization, which was promptly followed by the infiltration and shut down of their websites as well as them recieving a barrage of prank calls and spam faxes(presumably done by members of Anonymous).
Though this was done purely for their own enjoyment, Anonymous seemed to suddenly shift gears with their plan of attack, mainly due to the words of a man named Mark Bunker (known by Anons as "Wise Beard Man"), who runs a website (as well as an account on Youtube and Vimeo) called XenuTV, in which he has spent the last ten years exposing the "church's" questionable ethics, policies, and legal practices through the use of streaming video. Since Mr Bunker's suggestion to Anonymous(as well as that of Tory "Magoo" Christman, a former Scientologist of 30 years) to go the legal route so as to better expose and "harm" the organization, peaceful protests have been organized on a global scale; the first of which took place on February 10th, the birthday of Lisa McPherson, a Scientologist from Clearwater, Florida, who died in the "care" of the organization back in 1995(which is one of the most publicized cases regarding the abuse the "church" is known for). Protests took place in front of Scientology centers in over 100 cities worldwide, in 17 countries including the USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, and England, with an estimated 7,600 in worldwide attendance.
Protests have been held each month in global unity thereafter, the number of attendees steadily increasing each time; with the next one to be scheduled on July 12th. During each of these protests, the aim has been to get the message out to the public about the wrongdoings in the "church", be it through leaflets, signs, or word of mouth. Each protest has focused on a certain aspect which Anonymous is fighting against, such as Scientology's "Fair Game" policy which states that an "enemy" of the church (being basically anyone who disagrees with or criticizes scientology) "may be tricked, sued, lied to, or destroyed", or the practice of "Disconnection" in which one is ordered to cut off all relations and contact with anyone labeled "suppressive" by the organization, which has resulted in the break-up and ruin of friendships, marriages, and even whole families. These are a denial of basic human rights, and Anonymous is fighting to stop this.
Now, some of you may be asking, "Why haven't we heard of this sooner?" That's a valid question. Truth be told, I only found out about all of this myself rather recently, due to a link passed to me by a friend. The sad truth is that there are still a great many out there who do not know what this organization has done and is still doing. Why? Because every time a comment, a video, a news article, or anything else pops up, that portrays Scientology in a bad light, it is swiftly and mercilessly removed. They have been hiding and erasing anything and everything critical and scandalous about their organization since it was established back in the late fifties. This is a breech of First Ammendment rights. Regardless, the "church" is serious about keeping bad PR about them out of the media and will do whatever they can to silence whoever is behind it.
Need an example? Paulette Cooper, one of the first writers to investigate the Church of Scientology, and release a book exposing their organization back in the sixties, was harassed by them, suffered multiple frivolous lawsuits at their hands, was framed for sending bomb threats to them (which she was later cleared of after evidence of the framing was uncovered), and even had several attempts made on her life.
Since the start of Anonymous' crusade against Scientology, a great many others, from both online and offline, have joined the fight and taken up the banner of Anonymous against the organization, including former Scientologists, disconnected family members, and Freezone Scientologists who have branched off from the church and share their faith and knowledge with others openly and for free. Oh, did I forget to mention that the church doesn't share its knowledge with you until you've already forked over thousands of dollars? Yes, it's true. One will spend roughly $300,000 before even learning Scientology's "theology".
Now, admittedly, there are parts of Anonymous that still remain an "Internet Hate Machine", but that is a price we pay for free speech. However, unlike the "church", Anonymous has neither killed anyone, nor done anyone bodily harm. Nor have they financially destroyed people or broken up their families. The more noble-minded members of Anonymous continue to stand up in peaceful protest, and I support them one hundred percent. I am not part of Anonymous, but I am willing to join with them under their banner to stand up against the tyranny of the Church of Scientology. Now, keep in mind that Anonymous is not against Scientology's actual beliefs. People are free to worship or believe in whatever they want. That is part of our First Ammendment rights, and rights as human beings. Anonymous is also not against the Scientologists themselves. As I said, many former Scientologists and Freezone Scientologists are supporting Anonymous. The fact of the matter is that the fight is against the "church" itself, not the people. Anonymous is fighting against the immoral and illegal ethics and tactics being practiced upon both the "church's" members and its critics.
From what I understand(by my own observation, since I cannot speak for everyone), Anonymous' fight seems comprised of three basic goals.
1: Reunite the families that have been torn apart by the Disconnection policy.
2: Expose the "church's" illegal acts and have it dismantled to enable reform.
3: Have their Tax Exempt status revoked.
The reason for removing the Tax Exemption is due to the fact that Scientology charges its followers hefty fees to learn its "lessons". This shows that the "church" is run more like a business than a religion and therefore should be treated as a business. As many Anons have expressed on their signs, "Religion and faith should be free". I, and many many others, agree with that.
Now, I didn't mean for this to drag on like it has. The fact of the matter(which I am trying to illustrate here) is that I did not know any of this until a friend brought it to my attention. Originally, I had only heard hear-tell about Scientology through parody and satire in the media and felt it wasn't to be taken seriously. The truth, however, is that this is much more serious than we thought. Since this has come to light, a great many have joined Anonymous, increasing their ranks against the Church of Scientology. Myself included. People who were once silent have found a voice and are at last standing up and having their stories heard. However, there are still many who don't know the facts.
I have been doing my own research and been examining all sides of the story before reaching my own conclusion to stand along with Anonymous. I am not asking you to join in on the protests as I plan to do. That is entirely your own choice; as is whether you choose to support Anonymous or not. What I do ask... what I urge you to do... is please get yourself informed. Knowledge is power and the more you know the better off you are. I urge everyone who sees this to please do your own research. I have provided several links that will be good places to start, but this info is all over the net. Please, educate yourself. Whether you stand with Anonymous(as I have chosen to) or not is your own business and entirely your choice. But please, educate yourself and educate others. The point of this, just like what Anonymous is doing, is to get the word out. This is information that needs to be known. For the sake of those who have suffered, and the sake of preventing more from suffering. Please, spread the word.
In closing, I would like to salute all those who make up the whole of Anonymous that are participating in this fight; new and old. You have given many of us hope. Not just those who were victims; but others, like myself, who had begun to lose faith in what good was still left in this world. You have shown something worth standing up for, worth fighting for, and have not backed down from it. I thank you, Anonymous. You have my respect and you have my full support. I know that you will win this fight. We will win this fight. No matter how long it takes.
Thank you, Anonymous. For all of us, you have become heroes.
Thank you for listening and Godspeed to you all.
