I have a feeling I'm going to be the only one here, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has ever seen the anime version of Anne of Green Gables. This version, Akage no Anne (translates to Red-Haired Anne) was produced in the 70's by the future Studio Ghibli founder. And that may not make sense, unless you happen to know that anything by Studio Ghibli is amazingly awesome (Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away, etc.). And if you know that, then you'd be pleased to know that Hayao Miyazaki did scene setting and layout for it.
The only reason I feel that I'll be the only one who's seen this is because I only happened to stumble upon it over 3 years ago on some eBay I think. I was searching for some sort of Anne merchandise and found the DVD box set. This version was sold by a Hong Kong seller and had English subtitles to it. It is pretty much a 6 DVD box set of the first book. Unfortunately, I've never watched the entire thing, only about the first two discs. What I can say though is that this version pretty well sticks to the book. I mean, even better than the movies we've got now. The names of the episodes even tend to be the chapter titles for the book. If you check out the Wikipedia article, the producer wanted to stick very strongly to the original book, not something you tend to see much.
From what I've seen so far, it's very true and I enjoy the series greatly. Now if you're a person who can't stand to read subtitles, it's not something to look into. I can't seem to find any copies on ebay anymore, but
this is the box set cover you're looking for. That same website I got the picture from has it for $53. I know mine was about $40 when I got it.
If you've not seen the series, it's well worth looking into. I greatly enjoy what i've seen of it so far and love seeing all the scenes from the book acted out.
