I was wondering if anyone else is interested in the author Ken Kesey? I just finished reading The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, which is about Kesey and his followers. It's a very very good book, and it mentions the Beatles a bunch of times. There's even an entire chapter about our boys. (Our boys? Good God... I make myself want to vomit saying that...) But yeah. I suggest you all read that. xd I'm also in the middle of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which is by Kesey, and it's really good so far. (I checked both of these out at the same time, not even realizing that The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is about Kesey. I checked out On the Road by Jack Kerouac too, which is also briefly mentioned in the Acid Test. It was a crazy coincidence.)
But yeah. Feel free to discuss any of that here. biggrin

Ah yes, I read TECAAT. All but the last page, actually....I dunno why, but I refused to read the last page. neutral Anyway it was pretty good. I've been meaning to read One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for YEARS now, but last time I asked (about late 2006) my dad said I wasn't allowd to read it. Why? Because apparently it might 'upset my mental state'. Holy flying ********. I may act like a raving lunatic, but I'm secretly the sanest person I know. More importantly, I've seen the movie six ******** times. stare

That's ridiculous! The crazy people in the book don't even seem that crazy, if you ask me. (But maybe that's because I'm crazy...)
But I still don't see how a book could affect someone's mental state, and if you've already seen the movie, what's the harm in reading the book!? You should ask again.

I love Danny Devito (sp?) in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He had a full head of hair then, and I just found him funny.

I have the book, but I just haven't felt like reading it really. I've seen the movie, I know what happens.

A book could mess with your mental state, it all really depends how you take in what you read. You can say watch/read/listen to something and it can greatly change the person you are. It's like people who take the bible too literally, that messes with ones mental state I'm sure lol. Maybe your dad just thinks you'll take it too much to heart?? :S

Oh goodness. I finished the book at 4 in the morning last night.
Holy crapppp, it was soo good. Best thing I've ever read. It was really beautifully written, and I cried at the end. I dunno. I expect people to disagree with me, but I really really loved it.
What's the movie version like? It seems like a really complicated thing to translate onto the screen.

You're talking about One flew over the cuckoo's nest??

If so.. Then the movie is great. I'm sure it's probably not as good as the book but it really is a good movie. I'm actually shocked you've never seen it before. Atleast here, it's played twice a week haha, it's overplayed as usual. I cried at the end of the movie, so I'm sure the same would happen if I had read the book.
You need to watch the movie.. Danny Devito as Martini!

Yeah, I was talking about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The movie was on TV once awhile ago, and I had it on in the backround, but I wasn't really paying much attention to it. It seems like everyone I've talked to about it so far has only seen the movie... sweatdrop
I'll make sure to catch it the next time it's on.

I agree, all are great reads.

After reading TEKAAT it made me feel home sick...if that makes any since. Like I missed out on something great that will never happen again. But then again, if I had happened to be alive back then, I probably wouldn't be now. It helped me to understand both the beautiful and ugly side of drugs. Read On the Road a couple times too, (and The Dharma Bums as well). It's too bad you can't really hitch hike across the country like that anymore...such a different time and place.

Yeah, I've figured out that if I was born exactly 40 years before my actual birthday, I would've been alive then and everything would've been awesome gonk
I wish you could still hitch across the country, too. I've always wanted to do that.
Also, I'm writing a research paper on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this semester biggrin
