Do you ever feel as if the band (including guard) is neglected, forgotten, and underappreciated? Or are there any other frustrations you have?

I actually have several, and some of them are quite annoying.

For instance, there is no water fountain anywhere near the band wing. The closest one last year was by the cafeteria, but it broke and was never fixed, because "noone goes back there anyway". Except, of course, for the band, the chorus, music app, music theory, the guard... All of us who get thirsty from time to time.

Two football games ago, when we did a routine with our brick flags, our principal came up to us and asked us if they were new. We informed her that we recycled them from last year, and she told us that she never even noticed them before! Every game last year with the stupid red fabric at the beginning of Malaguena! And our principal doesn't even notice.

And, the band can't even keep a semi-constant speed when playing Brick House. Every single time they play it we have to rewrite our routine, to make it much longer, much shorter, and otherwise fitting with the music. Our end looks stupid no matter what, because the band either does it really fast, and we can't fit everything, or really slowly, and we finish early. Either way, we are never together on it because we are trying to make the routine fit the music rather than staying together with the other guard.

Oh, and at the last game, many of the fans on our side were surprised that we actually had a band. Duh! We've only been at every game so far.

The only time I ever feel underappreciated is when the band makes fun of us. >.< They say we don't work hard, and we shouldn't complain because what we do is easy. The BD's actually stood up for us a couple times, though. He said something along the lines of "you think it's easy? I'd like to see you twirl a flag. And once you've got that down, I'd like to see you pick up a rifle. Let me tell you, those are difficult to twirl. Or a sabre, those are even worse." Something around that.. 'Twas really cool.

Meh, we're ot quite as appreciated as the other teams, but people notice us. The cheerleaders actually send us cookies sometimes, and if we do well at a competition, it's on the announcements.

Don't get me wrong, there have been times when we're completely ignored. We got a huge awesome new football stadium this year, artificial turf and everything. The main reason we're excited about it is because our school is kinda poor..... Anyway, the band was the first organization to use the new field at stadium open house, and we got NO recognition for it. In fact, the NEXT day at school, people were talking about how the stadium was going to open THAT night, and that the soccer team would be the first to use the new field. evil domokun Imbiciles.

Yeah, the cheerleaders actually gave us candy at Halloween last year.. It kinda freaked us all out, because that's the first time they had ever done something nice for us.. A couple people joked that it was probably poisoned...

Man, we don't even have a football stadium. We have to use the stadium of the other highschool in the county. As far as I know, we're the only team that actually has to drive to our homegames.. rolleyes It sucks.

Our cheerleaders would NEVER give us anything, not unless forced. The whole band is so unappreciated at our school. When the winterguard won 1st place at every competition one season, we got on the announcements, and half the people didn't hear the announcement, and out of the rest, half didn't know wtf winterguard (or colorguard) was, and the rest thought that if WE could win it must be simple, because what we do doesn't look that hard scream
For pep rallies, all participants (ie cheerleaders, band, guard) are supposed to be allowed to skip last period to change/warm up/whatever, but some teachers refuse to let guardies/bandos go, because "what could you have to get ready for?"

Wow, that kinda sucks... You'd never experience that at my school. The band is actually pretty respected. I know the football teams likes us. The cheerleaders, like I've mentioned, are bearable... They like the drumline more than they do the rest of the band, though. And the priciple came to our competition on Saturday! It was really cool!

Last week our trumpet player tried to toss a rifle, just to see if he could. lol. It was quite amusing, and I think he appreciates the guard a lot more now.

Hey, ditto on the no stadium thing. We either use one that's about two minutes away, or another that is much farther. It is quite annoying.

**laughs** Did he hurt himself? I'd be amazed if he didn't... First time I tried tossing a rifle, I ended up with a bruise on my arm that didn't go away for a good 2 weeks..

>.< It bugs the piss out of me. What's really awkward is when we end up playing an away game at our home stadium.. O_o Funny how that works, isn't it?

Okay, so no one at all recognizes our band. We had a pep rally Friday, and decided to recognize ourselves. We paraded from the band room, down the wing with all the class rooms, past the office, and down through the tunnels to the Gym. Playing Crunch Time. Loudly. During 9th period. And the hallway was like a natural amp. We totally rocked the school and disrupted classes. Originally we of the guard did drop spins and paddle wheels as we marched, but we had to stop because people started coming out of classrooms to see us, and we didn't want to kill anyone. It was awesome! Then some annoying senior football players decided to block our path. If the teacher hadn't pulled them away, we would have just started whipping out paddle wheels and kept on going. Oh, and one teacher almost got ..er .. taken out by a bass drum because she didn't move, just stood in the middle of the hallway clapping. But, we rocked, we were awesome, and we proved that only six playing band members can make one heck of a lot of noise!

Wow, that's really cool.. Wish our band could march through the halls... We're a bit big, though.. There're at least 85 of us, and that's too many to go through the halls.

oh at our school everyone knows the band we play at like everything (by everything i mean just football games and prep rallies) but sometimes it does seem that we are being neglected and stuff like that because our BD doesnt get a choice in wiether we do play or we dont she has to follow the principal's wishes which arent always to the benfit of the band.

We walk through the main hall and we have over 200 members in band and colorguard combined. Drumline plays various cadences to keep us in step and occasionally teachers and students will watch us march down to the gym. Although, the colorguard doesn't even take their flags. All we do is walk in front of the band and then sit in front of them. They even took away our dancing privligaes last pep rally. Usually we would sit in front of the band dancing like idiots and having a grand old time, but apparently a couple of band members didn't understand why we could dance and they couldn't so we were told that we aren't allowed any more. Isn;t it obvious why we can and they can't though? Maybe because they are playing an instrument?! meh...that's my slightly peeved rant. I guess I'll shut up now.

when we have pep rallies we go down a looooong street, and we make a LOT of noise (there are over 200 of us) and along the sidewalk there are a lot of people listening and cheering us on and calling our section names...there are usually people also taking pictures and are with video cameras

basically our community loves us heart ...except some people in our own school crying
