A Day in the Life of: A Demon Lord (In Training)

“Thank you for tuning into A Day in the life of…” the television host says as she addresses one of the cameras on set. “Today’s special guest is none other than the newly appointed Demon Lord Raenef V! Aren’t you all so excited to delve into the fearsome life of a Demon Lord?” A roar from the crowd proves their excitement. The host continues on with her speech.

Raenef is backstage waiting for his cue to go on air, he is incredibly nervous. Eclipse reminds him that whatever he does on this program will have a great impact on his image as a feared demon lord. The truth be told, Eclipse really didn’t want his bright eyed charge to agree to go on television. It really did not sit well with the elder demon, but when it comes to his charge he just can’t say no. So now Raenef is going to go on television and be as terrifying as he possibly can. He tunes into what the host is saying.

“And here he is, the Demon Lord Raenef V!”

Raenef starts at hearing his name and completely forgets to be fearsome; instead he walks onto the set with a huge and lovable smile. And he waves…like an idiot…Oh dear Odin he tripped. But the crowd loves it they are all smiling. They really should be cowering in their seats but at least they aren’t laughing at him…yet. Ok he’s seated. As long as he doesn’t say anything to flowery he’ll be fine. Eclipse is holding his breath.

The host begins to speak “Well then Lord Raenef has allowed our crew to follow him around for a day. I bet you had them trembling in their boots, eh, Lord Raenef?”

“Well actually…” Oh goodness here comes the answer. Eclipse has his fingers crossed. “We had a lot of fun together!” Eclipse sighs he knew that this would be the end of his career as one feared by all. After the show he would go home and resign from his post before the Gods could fire him for allowing a demon lord to be passive and…happy-go-lucky.

The host speaks, “Well then let’s take a look at all the fun you had as our camera people were taken on a tour of a day in your life!” The crowd goes wild and the clip starts rolling.

7:00 am Wake up

Raenef rolls out bed with a ‘thump’ as he is awakened by Eclipse. This happens ever morning no matter how careful Eclipse tries to be. “Are you alright Master?” the elder demon asks with concern. The answer is always the same a muffled “Owwwies!” and the day continues.

7:30 am Eat Breakfast

As soon as Raenef has gotten out of bed he goes down to breakfast where his servants, a page named Erutis and a Cleric named Chris, have already begun to eat. Raenef cries in distress. “Chris you had better have left me some pancakes! Eclipse makes the yummiest pancakes and I really want some!”

Chris sticks out his tongue. “To bad squirt there are not more pancakes left for you!”

Raenef’s eyes tear up and the water works are narrowly avoided by Eclipse who brings out a fresh batch of pancakes. He sees the instigator of the tears and suspends Chris to the wall for a little while using a binding spell. Eclipse takes his chance to run through the itinerary. “My Lord, you must gather up some mezraez for your magic lesson, after you’ve bathed and gotten dressed. Then you have your study of past demon lords to go through with for the rest of the day.”

Eclipse is given a blinding smile and a pancake filled “ok!”
Does Master Raenef forget that he is being filmed? Eclipse’s stomach is unsettled by the thought of this material airing on television.

8:10 am Bath time

Raenef is enjoying a peaceful bubble bath in the swimming pool sized tub. He is playing with all sorts of bath toys when an uninvited visitor walks in on him. Raenef takes the chance to practice what he has learned through his demon lord training program and refers to the lesson ‘if someone sees you taking a bath’. He says “Harrumph”. Then Raenef gets out of the tub and tries to administer a sleep prevention spell but accidentally puts the intruder to sleep. Then he attempts to butcher the intruder, who is now known to be Chris with a butter knife, but gets bored and goes back to playing in the tub of bubbles.

9:00 am Time to be imposing

After dressing himself in nothing more than a pair of overalls and t-shirt far to big for himself Raenef does his hair up into the standard ponytail. Then he starts to make faces in the mirror. The camera people were unsure what to do so they asked Lord Raenef what he was doing. He responds by putting his index finger in the air as a matter-fact- kind of way and states “I have to try to look scary so that I don’t embarrass Eclipse at the next thingy with all the old guys!” The camera men just nod, unknowing about the previous “thingy” that the young demon lord attended. However Eclipse remembers far too well…

9:30 am Getting to work

Raenef decides that the best place to gather mezraez is in the garden because it has the best spiritual energy. Raenef explains that mezraez is a form of magical energy that one needs in order to produce a spell. Raenef plays with the garden sprites and during his time outdoors he manages to gather one hundred mezraez sixty more than is necessary for demon of his low skill. Raenef pauses to think of the upcoming lesson and hopes that it does not involve mutilating one of the castle guards like in his last lesson because he fears for the stomachs of the squeamish in the audience.

10:00 am Magic Practice

Eclipse decides that it is the perfect day to teach the master outside in the garden and he thinks given the circumstances the young master will be able to concentrate a little more. Today’s spell to be learned goes along with the first spell the master learned called the Dark Arrow. The new spell is called the Dark Shield. After viewing Raenef’s difficulty with combating monster’s, Eclipse finds it necessary to teach the young lord to defend himself when the elder demon is not around.

“Master Raenef, you, must first concentrate on the attack coming towards you and focus your mezraez on it, then say ‘Dark Shield!’”

Raenef snickers at the corny name of the spell and Eclipse ignores it for he does not want to admit to the audience that he was in fact the very person who named the spell.

Eclipse sends a minor attack towards Raenef but Raenef gets distracted by a butterfly that has landed on the television camera and is instead hit full on by the attack. The young demon lord is knocked out cold much to his tutor’s dismay.

2:00 pm Awakening from unconsciousness

Raenef wakes from his unconscious state and begins to cry. Ok not cry. He begins to wail! His is not crying for more than two minutes when Eclipse enters the room.

“My lord, what is the matter?” Eclipse feels his head to see if Raenef is running a fever.

“I-I h-had a dream th-that you beat me U-UP!” Raenef cries in dismay.

“Accidentally, my lord, I accidentally hit you with a spell, which reminds me please try to concentrate. I cannot risk your injury when you have just succeeded your predecessor.”

“Sorry Clipsy!” Raenef giggles as elder cringes at the nickname.

3:00 pm Demon Lord History

[Video Edit: due to the shear boringness of the lesson the station has not included this scene for we believe if someone with as much energy as a fifteen year old demon lord cannot stay awake for the lesson then nor can our audience. We apologize to those sadists out there who enjoy being bored to death.]

5:00 pm Training by Page

Raenef once again finds himself in the garden except this time with Erutis, a sword master and the lord’s page, as well as onlookers (ie. Eclipse and Chris). Raenef has asked Erutis to train him some basic swordsmanship so that he can “become the greatest demon lord he can be”; and she has agreed to it. They both have wooden swords and Erutis swears that she will not make her weapon lethal, as she would if say sparing against Chris. She teaches him the stance and a few basic moves: how to attack, parry, and block. They decide to have practice battle and Eclipse, always the worrier, begs Raenef to concentrate. However Raenef catches a glimpse of a sparrow and is struck by Erutis on the hand. Eclipse ends the practice for the day by scolding Raenef on concentration and sends Erutis to find a band-aid for the young master’s hand.

7:00 pm Dinner

9:00 pm Raenef’s Bedtime

Eclipse sees to it that Raenef goes to bed at a decent hour so that he may have more stamina throughout the day. However bedtime for Raeef is a full production. After brushing his teeth, combing his hair, changing, playing a game of cards with Chris and finally going to his room, it is usually an hour or so past his bedtime. One would think that a fifteen year old could make his own bedtime, let alone that he is a demon lord, but Eclipse likes it so that the young master is never cranky because when Raenef is moody bad things happen. Period. No late nights for the master.

Raenef finally settles into bed and snuggles into his blankets, when he summons Eclipse. This has been the routine since the Lord Raenef V came to the palace. Every night Eclipse tucks him in and wishes him sweet dreams for the coming day. Who knew Eclipse would come to love this routine? Wasn’t he supposed to be evil and cold hearted? He just couldn’t find it in his being to be his old self in front of new lord, he secretly wishes that Raenef can be happy-go-lucky for the rest of his days without having to reign in terror.

Back to the Television Show

“Well I see that you keep an eventful schedule, master Raenef!” The host laughs. “ In fact I think that you have to be the easiest going demon we’ve ever had on the show! People just adore you!” the host exclaims and the audience cheers.

Raenef blushes, then a horrified look crosses his face. “Oh no I was supposed to be terrifying! Oh great I screwed up! Now nobody will take me seriously!”

“Now, now dear.” The host soothes. “That’s all the time we have today folks! Let’s give a big round of applause for our cheerful Demon Lord!”

The audience goes wild and Raenef slumps off-stage. Raenef looks at Eclipse and frowns. “There, there it’s ok Master Raenef. As far as I can figure we can pass this program off as a dumb joke created by the dumb Cleric.”

Raenef smiles, “Ok as long as you aren’t mad!”

“Not at all, my lord, however this will be the last of your public appearances for a very long time." Because sitting through all that was humiliating.
