Research Assistant
Rank: D Mission Time: 1 week Team: Any, soloable
Details: Genin Westly wishes to practice his Genjutsu techniques as well as research new ones. Unlike Ninjutsu research, however, Genjutsu requires a human subject, capable of thinking, perceiving, and speaking. Duties will involve submitting to having one's perceptions altered and relaying back detailed descriptions of one's experience while under the effects of said illusions.
Risk: Zero chance of any physical harm. Possibility of lasting psychological trauma. Reward: Base D-Rank pay, plus complimentary snacks from Westly's shop. Special: Repeatable weekly, multiple applicants accepted.

Westly sat in a back room in the Delinquent Deathblow. It had the look of a living room or a den, complete with a couple easy chairs, a couch, a bookshelf, and a writing desk. There was a coffee table converted into a makeshift snack bar, heavy on candies but with some small sandwiches and chips. Westly himself was seated behind the desk, a number of textbooks and notebooks sprawled out in front of him, some of them dealing with Genjutsu, but just as many dealing with psychology and philosophy.
Westly was... somewhat skilled at making money. He usually had more than enough for minor expenses, and so he'd allotted himself a nice little budget for his research, such as it was. It turned out that while a number of people used Genjutsu, only a handful of people in Gaioh were particularly GOOD at it. Furthermore, most of those didn't seem to really understand the half of what they were doing. Westly had ideas for new and interesting techniques, things that seemed so fascinating and useful, surely someone greater than he had already set them to paper!
And yet, once he trolled the deepest depths of the library (an endeavor made far safer by Chaos's absence), he'd found just how uncharted the territory was.
His newest "assistants", by which he should right refer to as "guinea pigs", should be arriving shortly. The snacks were the least he could do. Sure, they were getting paid for this, and he was going to try to make it as painless and enjoyable as possible... but, well, some things couldn't be avoided. If it came down to it, Westly lacked the heartlessly sadistic tendencies of a typical Genjutsu specialist; he'd hurt people only if it unavoidable and he'd hate every minute of it.

Tougura sighed as he entered the building. Since he re-acquired his home, his bills have been piling up and it had lead to having to start re-accepting missions. Seeing one on the board about being a "genjutsu guinea-pig" seemed perfectly easy for him. The pay was decent enough, even if he was working for a genin, and it was also a way to test out the potential for one of the more promising "fledglings".
"Hello?" he called out, seeing no one in the front room.
"I'm here about the job request!"

Westly looked a little surprised. "A chuunin? Hrmm. Now THIS could be interesting. Well, have a seat, help yourself to some snacks, I'll be with you in a moment."
He began jotting down some notes.
Subject: Hideki Tougura. A chuunin of the Ichijin clan. Wind Jutsu specialist. Veteran of the Skywalker Rebellion, notable for being one of the few Ichijin that remained loyal to the village. Accounts of his mental capacities are erratic; combined with a tendency towards impulsiveness, I suspect a sharp intelligence dulled by ADHD.
Recommendation: Higher-ranked, more intelligent, and more experienced ninjas tend to be more resistant to Genjutsu. Attempting to break down his defenses may prove to be a fruitful form of endurance training. Given his impulsiveness, he may respond well to experiments in provocation. Furthermore, as a war veteran, attempting to dredge up his memories of the incident could be both informative and, as something that was likely traumatic for him, difficult.

Shin stood in front of the building, he took a deep breath and casually walked in. it had been months since the last time Shin had accepted a mission so he thought it was about time for him to get back on track. Also Shin has been wanted to test his resistance towards Genjutsu, though he has had his fair share of powerful illusions he just wanted to see where he stood. Shin glance around the room only to see Tougura standing and westly seated on a chair. He walked over to the two and greeted them “Hey Tougura, hey Westly!” Shin said in a cheerful upbeat tone. He stroked his hands through his dreadlocks. “I hope I am not too late to join this mission.”

He reminds me of my younger self...
Tougura simply gave a nod at Shin's greeting before proceeding to sit. He knew all of what genjutsu could do to a person if they weren't careful about it. Eating now could have some...rather nasty results so he chose to stay clear of the "snacks".

Westly smiled and waved. "Long Time No See, Shin. I'll add you to the roster. Snacks, table, comfy chairs, you can figure it out." His pen hovered above the page for a few moments before he started writing. The odds of anyone reading his notes were minuscule, but Westly's conscience was forcing him to be more polite than he felt was entirely earnest. Subject: Shin Jeano (Western name order?) Genin recently inducted into the Ketushai Clan. Earth Jutsu specialist. Shin was absent for the last Chuunin Exam. Very little known of his past. Outside of his affiliation with the Delinquent Deathblow, he shows up rarely in the public record, having yet to participate in any major military actions or battles; in other words, having already mentioned his rank, I repeat myself. Reminds me of a younger and happier Nanashi Forza with a breakdancing fixation. He has a "Warrior's Spirit".
Recommendation: If my calculations are correct, his resistance to Genjutsu is only slightly higher than the average Ramen Bar proprietor. He'll be quite useful for preliminary tests on prototypes before I move onto more difficult subjects for more realistically-simulated field tests.

upon hearing that westly was testing genjutsu on willing participant's Pyroka quickly jumped at the offer.
pyroka walked into the room where westly was performing the tests quickly noticing two of his acquaintance's " hello shin, tougura. How long has it been" Pyroka then noticed his old friend "hello Westly I've been meaning to see you but that can wait for a later time" Pyroka then took a seat in one of the chairs.

"I've actually got those, um..." Westly glanced at the other two subjects. Pyroka never specified secrecy, but that seemed to be what he wanted with regard to the project he'd commissioned. "...tin soldiers you asked for. Intricate things. Had to scrounge around for some extra materials to get all the little details to look just right. I managed to acquire some schematics from a Puppeteer, but I don't understand them enough yet to apply them to something that small."
Westly made some quick notes.
Subject: Kirazaki Pyroka. Genin inducted into the Akuma Clan. Lightning Jutsu specialist. See Shin's entry, minus the above, the gang colors, and the breakdancing. Pyroka fights with less strength and more speed. Personality-wise, I have yet to differentiate significantly between the two. Maybe I'll learn something.
Recommendation: See Shin's entry.

Westly was going to overstep his budget and his management skills if he let anymore applicants in. Westly closed the door to the room and locked it, more as a statement of his wish that no one opened it than anything else. Not like it mattered, ultimately; Westly would probably have more trouble breaking it down than any of his subjects, if it came down to it. It was a normal door; Shin could probably smash it to pieces with his bare hands.
"Alright, well, you probably know this already if you read the mission statement, so I'll be concise. You'll need to follow simple orders, nothing terribly difficult or embarrassing. I need you to be as descriptive as possible about what you're experiencing when you're under the effects of my techniques.
"The first jutsu I'll be testing is a simple, if useful, utilitarian technique, used for interrogation purposes. I call it Id Projection."
Westly dropped a Mist Bead. The mist wasn't terribly thick, but in an enclosed room of this size, it would take days to dissipate. Westly needed the mist as a medium for most of his Figments, and it was important that he used up as little of his chakra as possible; he was going to need a lot until he got the conversion rates right for the technique.
A Mist Clone of Pyroka manifested itself out of the surrounding clouds. "The technique is simple: when asked a direct question, if a person knows the answer, they will instinctively think of it, regardless of whether or not they then consciously say something else. Id Projection simply cuts out the middle man. Once performed, the Mist Clone will be connected to the subject. Regardless of what the subject tries to say, the clone, or "projection", will say what the subject REALLY feels. So if I asked Pyroka what color the sky was, and he said "Green", the projection would still say..."
"It's blue," said the copy of Pyroka.
Westly nodded. "Right. Now. I'm pleased with the group makeup, currently. The progression of testing will go..." He paused, looking from Pyroka to Shin and back. "...the two of you Janken for it, or come to a decision with each other. Tougura will be last, since, as a Chuunin, his defenses will probably be the highest. Whoever goes first is going to submit to it willingly just to see if it works at all, and whoever goes second will, like Tougura, attempt to actively resist the technique. This will allow for a neatly tiered escalation of difficulty on my part. You may help yourself to some snacks or some of my books whenever you're not actively being tested. If you have any questions or concerns, now would be a good time to voice them. Once we begin the mission, requesting to leave will be considered on par with surrender or retreat and will be marked as such on your permanent record. I'd hate to have to report that you failed a D-rank mission." Westly smirked a little at that last bit. Westly wasn't MEAN or CRUEL, per se, but he definitely was kind of a d**k sometimes. Mostly when it was funnier than being nice.

Hearing the comment about his little project he had asked westly to make he had a large smile on his face "Really, wow! when should I expect these to be ready by"
glancing over at the other two Pyroka made a quick assessment Hmm.. shin's reaction to the genjutsu should be interesting while on the other hand, watching Tougura make westly struggle to really get the genjutsu's effect's to kick in should be interesting as well

Westly cocked an eyebrow. "They're... ready... now...." he restated, slightly baffled by the question. "Once we're done here, I'll give them to you, along with a more detailed explanation of what I did."
Westly nodded. "Any other questions?"

Tougura made an invisible smirk at Westly's naivety.
"For the next jutsu, be less precise about its inner workings."
he couldn't keep himself from commenting. Now that he knew what the gejutsu did, it would be easy to last through it. Even if the first couple answers made their way through, once Tougura was used to keeping his mind in check, the rest would be, as far as he was concerned, downright lies. Shutting down his subconscious wouldn't be too hard under the present conditions...though something bugged him about Westly's order. Would the genin stoop to trickery to release Tougura's "defence"? The only thing Tougura could do at the moment was close his eyes and calm himself. The rest would come with time as he became usd to the feeling of the jutsu.

“Since a clone of Pyroka has been conjured he can go first. I’ll wait. Do you agree Pyroka?” Shin said as he turned his head towards him. Shin glance around the room to checking his surroundings, seeking for something out of the ordinary.

On further consideration, Westly needed whichever of the two had a longer attention span to go first. On even further consideration, though, he suspected they were more or less evenly matched in that area. On some level, he suspected that, were he to voice this fact, their combined hot-bloodedness would result in an impromptu "concentration duel".
"Changing the clone takes about as much effort as getting out of my chair," said Westly. "I suppose the question is, which of you is here to because they think they'll boost their resistance to Genjutsu, and which of you is here to actually become a more refined and well-educated individual? Because the first person's part involves... well, I'll leave it for a surprise, but I assure you, it will be WONDERFUL training of a sort you're unlikely to get anywhere else in the village."
Westly was smirking a little again. Most well-read people would consider what he had in store for the first applicant to be high honors--a true gift--but these knuckleheads would probably try to kill him over it later. It involved books, and books were not facepunchingly awesome.
