In this class students learn everything from Pros to Poetry. Works dating back to the classics all the way up to modern day are taught here I am going to allow the teacher to post his or her own class room description so that they may add a bit of their own personality to the room. The Next post should be by the teacher of this class.

Dr. Lowland's Literature Class
Current Assignment: Review the syllabus and be prepared for a pop quiz over the rules of the classroom by Wednesday. First Book will be passed out Wednesday.
(Dr. Lowland is currently in her classroom)

Dr. Lowland has made the Literature room into a mini-library, though not overwhelmingly so. One wall is entirely windows, letting in lots of light, though there are shoji screens over them to block out the view so students aren't distracted. The white screens have delicate vines dyed into the bottom that raise up along each screen's edge, red roses blooming along them. Along the north wall is a board that is half blackboard, half dry-erase, chalk, erasers, and markers ready to be used. In front of that board is her lecture podium, a table next to it used to hold what she needs for lectures. The other two walls are covered in bookshelves, leaving room only for the door. Darkly stained wooden floors have a large, burgandy area rug over it, with the desk sitting over it. The desks are actually dark wood tables, two seats to each table, the chairs moderately comfortable and covered in burgandy fabric. To the side of the boards is another door, this one leading to Dr. Lowland's office.

Also completely covered with books except for the two walls, Chloe has a bulletin board with her schedule for the next week behind her desk on one wall. The side that continues the line of windows from her classroom has a window seat built into the windows so that the windows only raise for half that wall. Here, the rug is forest green, as are her cushions, though her desk and the chair are of the dark wood like what's in the classroom. Opposite her desk are two chairs, should the students need to talk to her.

Syllabus:

Class Rules: No talking when Dr. Lowland is lecturing or has assigned work. No food allowed and no drinks except for bottled water. Electronic devices must be turned off before the first bell rings. Students are expected to attend class once a week at minimum, because there will be a quiz or paper due almost every Wednesday. All assignments must be turned in on time. Quizes can be made up for half-credit max, and papers, Midterms, and Finals cannot be made up. Books will be loaned out throughout the year, and the student is expected to keep track of the book and to return it when it is due.

Papers: After the due date of a book's reading, there will be a large group discussion and then a paper over a prompt that will be provided at the end of the discussion will be due the next week. Each essay must be turned into Dr. Lowland at the beginning of class, or it will be considered late and not accepted. Papers must be at least three pages long, typed, double spaced, 1" margins, in 12-point Times New Roman, with the student's name, grade, and the due date right aligned on the front page. These count as thirty percent of your total grade. (Note: I'm not actually grading a paper nor expect you to write one. When you turn the paper in, use a description of the paper as you do so. Whether it fits Lowland's requirements on style, and then how much work your character put in it are all I need to know.)

Quizes: Quizes are short, concise, and to the point. About five to seven questions long, they cover the required readings up to that week. These count as twenty percent of your total grade. (Note: These will be written on the dry erase board, and you can use this first post to find answers to the question. Use it to help your character make the grade you think they would make.)

Midterms and Finals: Covering the books read up to that point, it is in two parts: twenty muliple choice, and then a quick essay prompt, all done within class time. They count as twenty-five percent of your grade apiece. (Note: Multiple Choice will work like the quizes, and for the essay, just say what kind of essay your wrote: good and detailed, okay, or just vague as hell.)

Books for the Semester: (Note: Book of the moment is in bold, books already done are crossed out.)

And Then There Were None
Beowulf
A Midsummer Night's Dream
To Kill a Mockingbird
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
The Last Unicorn and Two Hearts
Romeo and Juliet
Oedipus Rex

(Moving from the Hallway with Dorian)

Chloe waved away his thanks as she returned the glasses to their place and walked past him into her classroom. "I owed you," she assured him, as she walked to one of her bookshelves. The werewolf began to pull down mutliple copies of the same book, an Agatha Christie novel, setting them in stacks on the nearest desk. It was her first reading assignment to her class, and she was being nice by picking this particular novel. It was an easy read, if a little complex. The stack numbered about twenty when she reached the end of the shelf, and she had to stand on the balls of her feet to reach the next shelf to pull down more copies.

"Nonsense, you owed me nothing... Here, let me help you with those..." Moving over to her classroom, Dorian proceeded to help Dr. Lowland bring down her rows of books, being the tall oaf that he was, had no trouble bringing them down onto the desk. He brought them down until he actually stopped to look at the book he was helping down. "Agatha Christie? Starting you students off with a good mystery?" He said, placing some more books down with his freehand as he examined the inside with another. "...It's not like you to be so easy with your students." He said, looking at her from his recent gaze of his book. "Personally, I prefer Conan Doyle's Holmes to Christie's Poirot, but then again, it's been so long since I've read one of her books..."

"Yeah, well... I'd rather not scare them to skipping the first week," she said with a shrug, moving out of his way as he brought her books down though she watched him like a hawk. "After And Then There Were None, though, we are diving head-first into Beowulf, with A Midsummer's Night Dream immediately after," she explained. Inside, she was worrying about the last book they covered before Fall Break. With the Mystic Arts teacher being a faerie, she knew she was in for a rough ride teaching that book, not to mention her students, or worse, her poor books that she loaned out. Counting the books on the table, she saw she had thirty-five. Unless more students enrolled, this would be plenty. Otherwise, she would just have to get them down herself. "Thanks for helping me," she added as she began to check that all the books had both a number and a letter on the inside cover. Rather than go into double digits, all of her books were coded with a number, one through nine, and then a letter, starting over for each book she had to have copies of.

Dorian chuckled a bit. "It's true, most of us teachers think alike." He said, thinking of his own lesson plan. The giant book was that of herb-lore, the first week would be simple study, but then things would get quite interesting... "...all excellent choices though, I must commend your taste on books... then again, you are the literature professor." He said jokingly as he set the last book down. "...anyway, it's my pleasure to help a colleague in need, if you need anything else, by all means, don't hesitate to ask." Dorian smiled, adjusting his glasses, which usually slid down his nose. "Though I recommend being careful on that last step, it can be a doosie." He said, rubbing his lower back slightly. Though it was most likely only him who got hurt walking down the stairs every day, it wasn't bad to caution, right?

"Thanks for the warning," she said honestly. "I'm usually alright in this form, but when I'm running as a wolf, I can be all paws until I adjust to being on four legs." Despite being a werewolf and having been phasing since she was thirteen, Chloe had trouble at times when she first shifted. Her mother had described her as an oversized pup, all paws and nose, when she phased until she had been in the form for a couple of minutes. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as she adjusted her own glasses in a mirror of his. The arguement with the door had scewed them slightly, and she was just now fixing them.

"That's good that I warned you then, I wouldn't recommend coming into my classroom on four paws anyway, Some of my plants tend to be rather...carnivorous to non- humanoid species." He said, scratching his cheek slightly. "...I'd also best put away the wolfs bane in your presence." Dorian knew well the myths and facts of the different Lycan tribes, having run with a pack of a silver backs in northern Europe. The entire adventure turned out to be quite a funny story, but he would leave such a tale for his pupils, rather than bore the faculty with such a trivial event. He knew, though he had had many adventures during his life, they paled in comparison to most of his colleagues.

"Mmm, wrong werewolf species," she told him with an impish laugh. "Wolf's bane doesn't affect me," Chloe informed him with a shrug, "Though, I could use your help. My own potion brewing skills are rather shoty at best." While wolf's bane didn't affect her, she did have issues during the full moon. Her more animal side took control, and all it wanted was to hunt, free from the scent of humans. The only problem was that she was still venomous at the time, and she would snap at anything humanoid that came near her. There was a potion that could be brewed that would keep that side of her subdued during the full moon, so she could quietly pass the night in her office. A roommate of hers during college had taught her how to make it, but Chloe's attempts tended to be hit or miss.

"Ah, It's very rare then to be in the presence of your species of Lycanthrope... Strange I hadn't realized sooner..." Dorian rubbed his beardless chin as he planned another trip to the library. He seemed to be getting rusty over the break. "...I'd be happy to help you in whatever, potions are my specialty after all." Dorian smiled kindly, whatever it was she needed, as long as it pertained to his specialty, hardly anything was impossible.

She explained her problem with her animal side and the full moon, adding at the end, "I have a recipe for a potion that helps, but I can't always get it right. Would you help me make it the day the full moon begins?" Chloe was hoping that he could. The next full moon was in a handful of days, and she was already worrying about it.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 18, 2008 3:15 pm

"Not a problem, I think I know which potion you speak of and have made it successfully quite a few times myself." He said, pulling out a pocket sized black book from his coat pocket and flipped through it, stopping at a particular page, and putting it back into his pocket. "Aye, it won't be a problem. I have just the same recipe and materials. By the full moon, you'll have naught to worry about." He said light heartedly. Happy to have a chance to work on a Lycanthropic recipe once again, Dorian's mood was giddy, at best. It was difficult for others to understand his interest and excitement in potions and plants, as many thought the subject as boring and uninteresting. However, Dorian had spent most his life at the practice of potions, his grandmother being a potions brewer herself, Dorian was drawn to the magic at a young age.

"That's a relief," she admitted with a sigh, "I was worried about running through the halls and accidentally biting a student." Dorian's passion for potions wasn't at all odd to her. At least, not any more odd than her obsession with books. Most of the books lining both the classroom and her office were from her own, personal collection. And even then, this wasn't her entire collection. She had a storage locker rented off campus, where the rest was very carefully packed away. Overall, she had thousands of titles to her name, not counting repetative copies of the same book. Books had been her source of comfort growing up in a society where females were regarded as future baby-makers and that's it.

"Like I said, naught to worry. I'd be happy to help a fellow colleague in any way I can." He smiled as he placed his hands into his coat pockets. Dorian was now eager to start, but knew this particular potion needed to be made on the day of the full moon. Still, it didn't mean he couldn't start on some other experiences in the meantime. "...well, I best get to my class room... classes being a week away I need to run over my lesson plan one more time. If there is anything you need, like I said, don't hesitate to ask." Dorian said, smiling kindly to Dr. Lowland.

Chloe smiled and said, "As long as you do the same, I will." She needed to move these books to the table at the front of the class now that she knew all the numbers and letters were straight. Then the nearly-OCD woman had to make sure her office and lesson plans were organized neatly. Her obsession with order and cleanliness was not actually OCD, just habits formed after growing up in disgusting filth caused by the males of her birth pack. Now, things being out of place drove her crazy, almost as much as someone quoting a book wrong.
