Welcome to the Literate Yuri and Shoujo-ai guild’s official chat and hangout thread.

This is not a roleplay. It is a chat thread and hangout for members of the guild.

The setting for the chat was selected by guild members to be an onsen setting, and it is allowed and encouraged for members to take advantage of this setting by roleplaying actions appropriate to the venue. However, it is not a roleplay, so you are not supposed to create a character and play out a storyline. You are supposed to be yourself and chat with and enjoy the company of your fellow guild members, while pretending you are in the onsen setting described below with them.

User ImageThe Literate Yuri and Shoujo-ai Guild’s onsen is not located anywhere on Earth in the traditional sense. You cannot get to it by travelling through conventional means, and even if every square millimetre of the planet was mapped you would not be able to locate our onsen on that map.

No matter where you are in the world, our onsen is only five steps away. You just close your eyes, wish to be here, step forward, and here you are.

It is on a mountainous island surrounded by ocean. The island is covered in lush, unspoilt greenery in combinations unlike any you would find anywhere on Earth: deciduous and evergreen trees from temperate climates stand side-by-side with tropical flowers and desert cacti. There is very little wildlife visible – some birds are seen, and fireflies come out at night, but otherwise the only signs of life are the songs of the crickets and cicadas and other forest life coming from the trees.

The climate is temperate, ranging from warm summers to cool winters, but never getting too hot or too cold, and even when there is snow on the rocks, the onsen’s waters are still kept warm enough by the underground sources to lounge in. The sky can be cloudless or heavily overcast, but even when it rains or snows, it is never more than a light drizzle.

The onsen is set in the side of one of the mountains, looking out onto the ocean. Hot, mineralized water bubbles up through the rocks into the pools of the onsen, and more water that has bubbled up to the mountain top rains down in gentle waterfalls.

User ImageAfter you pass through the gates of the onsen, you can choose one of three paths. One leads to the women-only baths, one leads to the men-only baths, and one leads to the mixed baths, but otherwise the three paths are all the same. Each takes you to a change room, a cleaning area to wash off, and then the hot spring proper. The three areas are separated by bamboo fences tall enough that you cannot see over them, yet you can hear through them easily to allow for conversations between the sections.

Each section has a large hot spring pool with a waterfall on one side, and is lined with smoothed over rocks designed to be sat on or reclined against. You may sit in the pool and soak, or on the rocks and enjoy the steam and aromas, or you may go under the waterfall and get a natural mineral massage.

The water is slightly milky white due to the minerals, which are very good for the skin. The temperature of the water is around 41 ℃ year round, even when it is snowing.

Hidden speakers around the onsen link to a high-fidelity sound system that can play any song desired from its massive database simply by making a verbal request. The bar also responds to verbal requests – you simply order your drink by speaking for it aloud, and a moment later one of the rocks opens and your drink slides out, or it comes floating toward you on a little boat.

Rules of the Onsen

  • All Gaia and guild rules apply, as always.

  • This is a setting for chatting and getting to know your fellow guild members socially. It is not this guild’s red light district. There will be a sum total of zero romance going on in this onsen. Playful flirting is fine, even some “ecchi” humour provided it is all kept under PG-13. But the only thing steamy in this onsen should be the water. There will be no warnings; if you cross the line, you are not only removed from the onsen, you are ejected from the guild completely. If you even think you might cross the line with something, just don’t do it.

  • No running.

  • No throwing things over the fences, including water – if you want to pass something from one section to the other, go to the edge of the fence and pass it around.

  • No horseplay.

  • No peeing in the water.

  • No men in the women-only section, and no women in the men-only section.

  • No peeking.

  • No making fun of other people’s chest sizes (or other sizes, if they’re guys). This is Aenakume’s personal rule. Failure to follow it… means death.

  • They are a perfect size, just big enough without being huge.

  • Too big isn’t sexy anyways.

(Obviously, only the rules marked with are serious.)

How to Use an Onsen

For those unfamiliar with onsens, here’s a guide on how to use one.

First, as you enter, decide on whether you want to go to the baths specific for your sex or the mixed sex baths. Mixed sex baths promote more conversation and togetherness for everyone, but some people are not comfortable with them – if you prefer single sex baths, you can still talk to everyone else through the bamboo fences anyway. Once you decide, go through the door to the section you chose.

The first room you come to is the change room. There is nothing special to do here – just get undressed as always. Towels are provided, or you can bring your own. In this onsen, you have the option of wearing whatever you like. You may soak nude, or in a bathing suit – or fully dressed, if you like.

The next room is the cleaning room. First you should remove all of your make-up. Make-up prevents the minerals from having full effect on your skin. Then you should wash yourself thoroughly with warm water. The warm water is to prepare you for the heat of the hot spring – if you just go straight in, you might faint. Plus, it’s nice to know the people you are soaking with are clean. You may also wash your hair, if you like, and you may choose to pin up your hair or wrap it in a towel, or leave it down if you like – the minerals in our onsen are not harmful to hair.

And then, finally, the hot spring proper. Start slowly, only sitting in the water up to your waist or so. It is not pleasant at first, but wait a bit. Slowly your blood will warm up, and the flow will compensate for the pressure of the mineral water. Soon you will feel warm all over, and that is the signal that it is ok to completely submerse yourself. Then it feels nice.

Once you have acclimatized, you can relax in the water. In normal hot springs, you shouldn’t stay for more than twenty minutes or so, but ours is special, and you may sit for as long as you like. You can recline on the rocks and inhale the steam for aroma therapy without soaking, or sit under the waterfall for a natural massage. You can also order up drinks, and music, and chat with the others in your hot spring or the adjoining ones through the bamboo fence.

When you think it’s time to get out of the onsen, you should get out slowly. This allows the water to stay on your skin so the minerals soak in more. You should also not rinse off. Robes are provided so that your clothes are not ruined by the mineral stains until you dry, if you want one, or you can just wear a towel or nothing at all.

There is a lounge area split into separate men-only, women-only and mixed sections – just like the onsens, separated by bamboo fence to allow for chat – so that you can relax and have a drink while you dry. Having a drink is recommended, because you sweat a lot of liquids out in the onsen. Once you have dried, you can go back to the cleaning room, apply lotions and so on, and then back to the change room to get dressed.
