Petrar had grown substantially in size since cubhood. As a teen she was nearing an adult female's size now, and although she would never be as large or strong as her father, she felt like she could take on anything that got in her way. At the moment she had wandered away and down a hall, apparently without cause. She was humming a little tune as she stepped lightly across the stones. Then suddenly...
"I'm bored," she cried, her voice breaking the silence like shattered glass. Petrar rubbed at the spider marking on her cheek with a great, exaggerated yawn. Then she crouched down with her ears flattened against her head, tail lashing about angrily. She felt useless when she wasn't doing anything, and today was no better.

Door sat in a tall window on the top floor, the glass long since shattered and gone. The breeze crossed her cheek and she smiled with it, peaceful as she watched over the castle's surroundings like a guard. Numai hadn't given her this task--he hadn't asked her to do anything yet. But it seemed no one else had the urge to protect him, so the duty had fallen to her.
Her ears pricked backwards, and her mouth turned downwards in distaste, her eyebrows stitching together in a glare when she heard Petrar. Lady Door jumped from the sill with ease, striding across the floor into the stairwell without making a sound. She padded down the circular stone steps, catching sight of her spidered sister at the bottom, pouncing on her quickly before she could react. "If you're bored, sister, then make yourself useful to father in any way you can. Just be quiet about it or you'll attract his wrath. I am not about to take the fall just because, in addition to your heart, you've also been unable to locate your brain." She shoved down on Petrar's head once, before releasing her, standing a few feet away with the glare seemingly perminantely etched on her face.

The dark female rolled with a hiss and a snarl away from Door as soon as she was released. "How? By sitting on a windowsill all day, Lady Door?" she retorted, spitting her sister's name like a bad taste. "Father doesn't need protecting by the likes of you." She scowled fiercely, but otherwise she didn't do anything. Door possessed qualities that Petrar herself lacked, and that could be useful for the family. There was no sense in getting into some pointless fight right here by the stairwell. But Door's... superiority complex got to Petrar more often than not.
She stood up tall and defiantly, her ears pricked forward. Still, if Door had a suggestion... she would take it even if it was just to relieve he boredom. "So? Got a job for me or something?"

Door's eyes became narrow slits as Petrar spoke. "If it helps watch out for any intruders, then yes, it's helpful. And I hate to tell you this, dear sister, but Karayan and Tiponi are the only ones of us who are not dispensable. Males." She spat the last word, just thinking about her brothers.
She pondered her sister for a moment. The truth was she was malicious from birth--Door had to work, and continued to work--at being that way. And she would never take quite the same amount of pleasure from causing pain in others that Petrar did. She smirked, looking at her sister again. "You know, perhaps there is something you can do. The floors are getting a bit dusty, dear sister. Clean them." Grinning the whole time, Lady Door walked down the hall away from her sister delighted with herself.

That little.... Petrar snarled quietly and chased after Door. "I will NOT sweep floors like some sniveling commoner, no matter HOW bored I happen to be," she spat, her tail swishing back and forth in agitation. "Why don't you get one of the more... pathetic ones to do it?" She ended her sentence with a little sniff before bounding past Door, fur bristling.
"And FYI, I know we're the disposable ones. I don't plan to be disposed of," she hissed, her frown etching ugly creases in her forehead. "But I'm not going to suck up to father like you are obviously doing. I'm sure he appreciates it sooo much." She rolled her eyes and began to snicker, teeth gleaming in the dusty sunlight. "This doesn't come naturally to you, does it? Did Lavona's blood taint our father's in you, hmm?" Sure, she would admit that Door was probably smarter than she was, but Petrar had the cruelty and love for pain to make up for it. Then she brushed her paw, ever so slightly along Door's side. "Poor baby."
