Honeysuckle liked to keep up to date with the jewellery crafters in the area, and her customers were usually happy to tell her where they got their ear tuft rings. She enjoyed trimming their eartufts and dying them to match the jewellery, and some of her customers liked to bring their whole collections of rings to see what would inspire her. Keeping up with the latest jewellery was both business and pleasure.
With her children safe in the care of her mate she was finally ready to check out some of the crafters she had heard of before she laid her eggs. She could hear running water and figured that it must be the creek Foxberry had told her about.
She landed in a Sycamore tree and hooted to announce her presence and to tell the crafter that he had a customer.

In the sycamore's topmost hollow, a bundle of feathers was just visible through the threshold. Lute was having a lazy night, too relaxed to even go to his special place on the pine tree. He was just sitting and thinking, nibbling a berry or two. Senri, his Parus, was dozing beside him. Lute was so out of it, that the hoot from Honeysuckle caused him to jump violently, his head whipping around to look out of the hollow, eyes wide. He had crushed the berry in his talons and had a few feathers sticking out of his wing. He righted himself, calling to her. "With you in a moment." He hurridly preened his primaries and nudged Senri awake. Moments later, the Sentinel and Parus were flying out from their shared home. Lute banked and landed on the branch just outside the lower hollow, filled with bits of silver and small jewels. He stood straight and tall, trying to recover from being frightened silly. "Hello, hello!" he said, about a meter down the branch from her. "I am Lute." His Parus finally landed, not being as gifted a flyer as the bigger bird. "This is Senri, my Parus. Who might you be and how may I help you this fine night?"

The answer from below startled Honeysuckle a little, she hadn't realised that she had entered the crafters territory and landed in his tree, and she sleeked down a little in embarrassment of the faux pas. She should have called out earlier and not just landed like that. Still, the male didn't seem terribly upset as he emerged from the hollow below her.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realise I was in your territory and not just close to it," she said with a disarming smile, "I'm Honeysuckle, the featherstyler,"
As a fledgling she had never been particularly happy with her name, but adding her task to it at least made it stand out from the other Honeysuckles. She flew down to sit on the same branch as the other Sentinel, not even a wings breadth away. More private Sentinels were sometimes disturbed when she invaded their personal space, but to Honeysuckle it felt quite natural to sit this close.
"It is a lovely night, isn't it?" she agreed and preened her flight feathers carefully before stating her business, "I've heard you craft jewellery."

Lute pulled back just a smidgen when she landed so very close. He did not object, but he was a little intimidated. "Its...its quite alright." he said. "It can be a hard place to find, so you're pretty lucky!" he said, grinning. He took a deep breath of crisp air. This new Sentinel didn't seem so dangerous...and such wonderful plumage! It made his green wings seem inferior. He didn't mind though, being a simple creature. "Yes, I specialize in sterling silver." It may have been decieving, as his own earrings had tarnished from age and turned to a golden hue. "Trinkets, rings, necklaces, earrings, clasps...whatever you need!" He pointed to the large hollow nearby. "In here is where I keep and build all my wares." he said, slipping inside. "Do come in."
Inside the tree were all kinds of brilliant, shining objects. The way the moon shone in made it look like ancient mirrors were reflecting on every wall, tiny spots of light freckling the wood. He used his talons to shuffle some bent ores out of the way before he turned and put himself into a relaxed position. "Take a look around. I have all kinds of shiny objects to choose from. If you don't see anything you want, then I can do custom orders...for a price."

"Oh, how interesting," she cooed and followed Lute inside, "Silver is a good choice, not too hard to shape I've heard and it looks good with dark feathers."
Many of her customers were crafters, she supposed since their task drew Sentinels who appreciated beauty. She knew a little bit about different metals from talking to her customers, and could parrot a few basic facts for conversation, but if a discussion got too technical she would resort to smiling and nodding. It sure was a real treat to be invited to a crafters workshop, and Honeysuckle watched the gems and raw materials with shining eyes.
"Take a look around. I have all kinds of shiny objects to choose from. If you don't see anything you want, then I can do custom orders...for a price."
"Oh, the payment will not be a problem," she said matter-of-factly, "My mate is a very successful hunter so I can trade with all kinds of game, or perhaps you'd like some touch ups when moulting season comes? Do you have any blue or grey-blue gems?"

He turned to her and clacked his beak. "It is easier then other works I have seen, indeed. But it takes some skill." He seemed somewhat insulted by her commented, but he brushed it off at the mention of meat. "Freshly caught meat would be wonderful. I don't particularily enjoy the 'thrill of the hunt', so I don't do it as often as I could. Too many bad experiences." he said idly as he walked to the back of the hollow, where the largest mass of shiny objects was stored.
'Too many bad experiences' included; killing his teacher's Mus, flying for endless hours after prey and getting hopelessly lost, diving very close to the dangerous forest floor and having his kill stolen by much more intimidating sentinels. No, he didn't hunt very often anymore. Senri collected berries and nuts for him, as well as the odd caterpillar. The only time Lute got a raw, bloody meal was if injured or young prey ambled into his territory.
Using his talons and his will, Lute began to sort through the somewhat messy pile of gems. He paused a few times to move certain stones into another pile. After about a minute, a small jumble of blue and rippled stones had accumulated. He laid these out into a line in front of his customer, eyeing the scissors around her neck for a moment. He finished lining them up. "I have Lapis Lazuli, Sapphire, Star stone, Quattum Quatro, Agate, Boulder Opal, Titanium Drusy- a personal favourite, Zircon, Spinel and Sodalite." he pointed at each gem as he spoke. "All VERY fashionable."

At the beak clacking Honeysuckle flattened her eartufts in surprise, but she quickly forced them back to a normal expression again. The crafters hostile response kept bothering her and she struggled to remain calm as he went further back to get his wares. She was not sure what she had done or said to make him clack at her. Why she had even complimented his choice of metal! She aligned a feather that wasn't even out of place and went on with the small talk as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
"Oh, I enjoy hunting myself," she said with a strained smile, "it wouldn't do to get out of practice even if I can usually trade for what I need."
As Lute started to name all his stones Honeysuckle's eyes glazed over slightly. She smiled and looked the pretties with interest, but his crafter lingo went straight above her head. To her he might as well have said 'oh, I've got this shiny gem, and this sparkly rock, and this other sparkly rock...'
"Something grey-blue," she said, making the statement sound more like a question, "To match the beautiful eyes of my little girl. Do you have any suggestions?"

He noticed the tension in the hollow and his own comfort began to waver. He had no meant to react so strongly and maybe just a shake of the head or a small tuft flattening would have worked...too late now, he supposed. He began to rifle through the stone again, throwing out all the pure blues. "Alright, I've narrowed it down to Lapis Lazuli, which is pure blue with grey speckles, star stone which is this darkish blue which has a white star in it if you hold it to the light." He picked it up, demonstrating its value. "Boulder Opal, which is this medly of blues and greys. Then there's my favourite, the Titanium Drusy." He picked it up with his will, showing her how it looked like dark blueish grey with silvery sparkles all over it. He moved onto a rippled blue grey stone. "And lastly we have Sodalite." he said with a feathery little half smirk. "I apologize, but there's not really a lot more I can offer.." he said, ear tufts lowering a bit. "I COULD get you some Soladite, which is VERY different from Sodalite." he said. "other then that...please make your choice." (Lapis Lazuli, star stone Titanium Drusy and Sodalite Aurrie will be joining us soon, by the by.) (A note from the Herald: Made the OOC note a bit smaller and less obtrusive, hope you don't mind.)

Honeysuckle examined the stones Lute suggested and tried to imagine them on her daughter. The last stone would be a quite nice match for her beautiful eyes, even if it wasn't the most exciting of the gems.
"I like these two," she said and lifted the star stone and the sodalite, "And I'm thinking perhaps a pendant or eartuft ring... It's for my little girl, but I suppose she will have some growing to do before I could have them fitted."
Ear tuft rings for a growing girl was a silly idea, but a pendant might work. Or she could just save it as a graduation surprise.
"What kind of findings can you make?"

He paused once more as he moved the other two stones out of the way, so only the sodalite and the star stone remained. He looked to his customer once more. "Allow me to show you some of my frames I can set them in while you decide." He chuckled.
He ruffled through another pile of sterling silver, pulling up a sample of each item with his will as he spoke. "I can make simple molds. Ear tuft rings, toe rings, covert covers and anklets. BUT-" he said, grinning. "I can also do shaped and embedded pendants." he said, holding up a simple tendon string pendant in the shape of a tear drop with his will. He put it down and then showed her another- a sort of bent up square, curled inwards at the verticle ends. A sapphire was hung tightly between the bands of sterling silver.
He sighed deeply. His memory wasn't sharp in some cases, but he did know his silver and gems.

As he flew, Fjord's bells jingled and jangled softly. He did not plan on hunting at this time, as he had already done so before leaving on the journey to find Lute's territory, so keeping the bells would not inhibit any hunting later in the night.
He had heard whispers from the theater and apparently this particular sentinel was fabulous with his crafting. Given his personality, Fjord just had to check it out. He loved little trinkets just as much as he loved food and barding.
Crow was perched on her Master's back and her little, nimble paws were holding tight to the silver necklace that wrapped about his neck. He had chosen to take her, but had bribed Feather to stay home with a trip for berry hunting. He did not want to risk the pica picking over any of the crafter's items, which would of surely happened had he come along.
As he came closer to what he thought might be the edges of Lute's territory, he let out a soft greeting hoot.

Honeysuckle followed the Crafters movements with interest as he showed her what he could make. Most metal crafters kept a stock of the most basic items, for the simple reason that it was what the customers wanted, and she liked what she was seeing so far. The last ones made Honeysuckle's eartufts perk up a little.
"Interesting shape," she remarked as he showed the last piece, "I don't think I've seen that particular one before. But perhaps not for my little girl."
She studied the drop and nodded her approval.
"I think I'd like the drop pendant as an eartuft ring," she mused, "but my little Anjou is not big enough for that kind of jewellery just yet. I wonder if I should just get her a necklace pendant until then..."
Her browsing was interrupted by the hoot from outside.

Lute peered around the other owl, ear tufts flicking as his head cocked left and right. "Take your time, Miss." he said. "I just have to go and greet my other customer. The more the merrier....when food's a payment." He brushed past her and chirped at his Parus, who entered to keep the she-Sentinel company..and assure she stole nothing. Lute was carefree about who he sold to, but he knew a lot of magpies who liked to use the 'two taloned discount'.
Senri chirped up at Honeysuckle. "Yah look muchish goodish in the brown wiffa teal." he said, slurred and quickly. He was trying to compliment her glossy feathers. He wanted to preen them, but DARED not touch any Senitel except Lute. He slunk over to the gems and picked up the blue star. "Thissun be Senri favourought, yip yip."
Lute slunk from his tree and fluttered, landing on a topmost branch of his home. He swiveled his head and ears, returning the hoot, welcoming the unfamilliar creature to his territory. He finally spotted Fjord and gave a cheerful purring noise. "Welcome, valued customer. How may I be of service tonight?" he eyed the Mus on the bird's back. He never understood why Sentinels liked them....they weren't very effective flyers and made easy prey. He shrugged it off and made the friendliest face he could.

Fjord's landing on the limb was announced with a hearty jangle from his bells, which flounced with the abrupt stop. The dipped his head in greeting to he who must of been Lute, leaving Crow exposed between his wings for only a brief moment. She showed little fear and imitated her master's fluid movements almost precisely. On stage, she was exposed to many, many feathered predators, but felt safe in the company of Fjord.
"Good eve, sir. Hopefully I have not come at a poor time. I've heard chatter of you while out and about, mostly at the theater. I've come in hopes of finding a new gem to add to my collection. Perhaps a new ring or a pendent, methinks."

Eartufts flicking back briefly was the only clue betraying that Honyesuckle had indeed heart the last part, but the little companion soon distracted her with his adorable effort at conversation.
"Thank you," Honeysuckle said and beamed at the funny little bird. "Senri was it? And I have to agree, that gem is very nice indeed."
Her own companion didn't talk much, but it was smart and responded to Honeysuckle's commands really well. It was her most valued tools after her scissors. Parus seemed to be pleasant companions, but she needed paws and reasonable intelligence so a Mus was the best option.
Unable to repress her curiosity any longer she hopped closer to the entrance. She wanted to see where Lute had gone and who the other customer or visitor might be. Bard. But of course. The jingling earlier was a big clue, but the dye job removed all doubts.
"Good night Sir Bard," she hooted, "And thank you Lute for showing the lovely gems, but I better head back home soon. I will get back to you, but I need to discuss this with my mate and my daughter."
She preened carefully to prepare for flight, listening with half an ear to the two males. When she was nearly ready with her meticulous preening she raised her head, as if she just came to think of something.
"Oh, do you think you could hold those two gems for me for a few days?" she said, "I understand if you can't, but it would be really nice if you could."
OOC: If I'm eaten by RL (highly likely) you can skip me and/or assume that Honeysuckle just left after this.
