Prompt Responses
Marina Toriama After relaxing outside for a bit, Jacinth went back inside. As she shut the back door behind her, she blinked as she saw what was on the kitchen counter by the window: the feather. But she'd left it in her room! "How'd you get down here?" she asked, tilting her head to the side as she stepped closer to it. As if answering the question, the feather rode on a non-existant breeze, landing on the table on the otherside of the room, rustling along the way. Jacinth's eyes widened; how did it do that? The rustling sound she could write off as the crane, but how did it move? She then noticed; it was still making the sound, even though it was still for the moment. Now, a normal person might have freaked out or blamed it on fatigue or something of the like. Not this person. She smiled, a "Cool..." murmered under her breath. She sat down at the table, watching the now motionless feather. She didn't know how it was doing it, but she'd figure it out! The feather flipped over, sliding a couple inches away from where she sat. Oh yes, she'd figure this out....sooner or later. Most likely later.

Jacinth grinned as she sat in her backyard, watching the birds hop along the tree branches. Such pretty little things....oh, and look how the sun shines off of their feathery wings! She grinned, a small giggle escaping her mouth. Oh, she could simply sit here for hours and watch those little creatures! As she looked up once more to admire her feathery friends, she saw something floating down from above. Lightning fast, her hands shot out, carefully cupping around the object. The girl tilted her head to the side as she brought her hands to her face, opening them slowly as she began inspecting what she had caught. It was a feather....a white feather. She looked back up at the trees. That was odd....there weren't any white birds near by. She looked at the feather again....it seemed awfully clean for a feather.
She stood up, still looking at the feather. It reminded her of a story Momma used to tell her. Though, her memories of it were vague.....something about a charm and good luck. It had been years since she'd heard the tale, so she had an excuse. "Well, Momma said I should keep any I find....so I think I shall." Jacinth said, smiling sadly. Oh, she'd thought of her mother.....poor Momma. She looked back up, wondering if the old story was true. Nah, that was just a silly superstition! The feather probably had been caught on a branch and the wind blew it down. That was probably it. Still, it was a rather pretty feather and there was no harm in keeping it, right? Right. Standing to her feet in one fluid motion, the young kitsune headed to the house. If she was going to keep this feather, she definately had to give it some pizzazz. After all, it wasn't sparkly or anything! A smile spread across her face as she cradled her new little knick-knack in her hands, being careful not to ruffle or bend it as she headed up into the house.

Jacinth stared at the feather as she drank her afternoon two-liter of Carmel Dr. Pepper. Yes, it was pretty and all....but it needed something. Y'know, something that said, "Hey, I'm not like all the other feathers kids pick up off the ground." (It made sense to her...) But what could be put on such a perfect, flawless, pretty feather? The girl looked like she was deep in thought for a few minutes, then grinned. She got it! She sprung to her feet and, in a flash of red, tan, and sparkly glitter, ran off up the stairs. The sounds of rummaging, crashing, and falling permeated the second floor, reaching its way down to the first. Yeah, she'd have a lot to clean up later, but oh well.
She came back down, having found what she'd wanted: a piece of paper. She sat back down at the kitchen table and ripped it carefully into a square. Then, showing more concentration than she usually did, she began folding. A few minutes later, she grinned, holding a small origami crane. She poked a hole through the middle point of it and tied string to it, the other end tied to the end of the feather. "There!" she said, looking as proud as could be. "Prettyful!" Origami cranes held special meaning to her....she used to fold them for a reason back when she was a child. She thought that if she folded a thousand of them, she could get a wish. Of course, her wish never came true, sad to say, but they still represented hope to her. ((Pixel image was made solely by me. Want to use it? Ask; I'll probably let you use it. Steal it and I'll throw glitter on you and sick Jacinth on you. Have a nice day. ^^))

Summer had past, and the cool days of autumn had slowly crept in on the lovely little house. Jacinth, however, would never let the cooler temperatures keep her locked inside. She sat out under her tree, watching the wind rustle the leaves. She'd left her new 'feather-pal' inside, not wanting the breeze to blow it away. The girl smiled gently, remembering the first time she'd heard the legend of the Feathers and why she was keeping hers.
"Mommy, why are you keeping that?" the little girl asked, tugging on her mother's sleeve, emerald eyes gazing up at the frail-looking woman. The girl's blood-red hair was looking a bit frazzled from her running about so much, her rich tan skin a stark contrast of her mother's almost ghostly white skin. The woman had her slender, shaking hands cupped around the object of the child's curiousity; a single white feather. Her dull black hair fell across her shoulders, her bangs shading her pale, listless green eyes.
"It's a white feather...." she said, her voice barely higher than a whisper as she smiled down at her daughter, her little Jacinth. "They say that if you find one, it means that the ones above are watching out for you. If you keep it, you'll have their blessings. But, if you put a charm on it, a charm that means something to you, the ones above will grant you a special gift." She stifled a cough, and in doing so, left the feather open to the unforgiving winds, who swept up the precious feather and stole it away. The woman watched the feather fly off, sighing slightly.
"Mommy, your feather!" Obviously, the feather had to be important if the ones above had sent it! The little girl ran after it, becoming a blur among the brown-tinted grass, her hands grasping as she jumped up at it, unable to reach it.
"Jacinth, come back here. It's alright." the woman said, her voice straining to obtain an appropriate volume. She smiled lightly, hugging the child as she ran up to her. She wasn't sure if it really was alright, but for her little girl, she could act like it was.
"I'll find you another feather, Mommy." the little girl said, nodding in determination. "I promise."
"I wonder what the special gift is...." Jacinth murmered, thinking about it for a moment. "Well, whatever it is, I hope it's shiny!"
