I'm going to get a nose piercing, but when I did my ears they were infected on and off for about 3 years. I won't get one if this is too much an issue, but I don't want to damage my nose. Help?

Its all a question of letting it heal properly... Depending on what kind of ear peircing u got they can get really infected really easily becoz they dont finish healing quick enuf, or at least as quick as we believe they heal...
if u do get it the best advice i can giv is not to play with it... my industrial isnt totally healed yet but i do at times get the urge to move it around or scratch it. its not infected but only becoz im still cleaning it (about a month and a half so far). clean it every day 2 or 3 maybe even 4 times if feel like it. A good thing to do is to use cosmetic cotten buds soaked in salty water. and if it ever gets sore take a cotten ball the same kind of salty water and just hold the soaked ball on the peircing for a while... i know it sounds overly time consuming but if u really want a peircing to work out well u gotta put some effort in. and in actual fact any of these things never take more than 5 minutes and thats hardly eating ur day away.
a good mix is a glass of water to about 4 or so tea spoons of salt. Tea spoons! not table spoons!

PiercedPixie2 You're getting it done professionally right? thats a good point. no matter how bad a** home peircings are pro work will always be better. find yourself somewhere that has friendly, informative and skilled staff, clean studio and most importantly clean procedures... if a peircer is truely hygenic they'll go thru a few pairs of gloves each peirce, and each peice of equipment will be sterile and sealed. if u want peircings to turn out rite u need to giv them the best start possible. also it cant be denyed that pros hav way more practice and will (if theyre good) be better everytime

I pierced my lip myself and it took about a month to heal properly, but as long as you clean your piercing every day with warm salt water it should be fine, if it doesn't clear up after a month then you may be allergic to the metal of the piercing, I advise you in that case to change the bar/ring/stud to another kind of metal and just keep cleaning it with warm soapy water everyday to see how that goes, for example, I'm allergic to gold and pewter but I'm fine with silver, so I have to make sure that any jewellery I wear is real silver otherwise my skin goes all weird!
If its done properly it should be fine, just keep it clean!

Its central so its not noticably wonky but when I point it out people stare for about 5 minutes and then go "Yeah it IS wonky!" I'd definately go to a well practiced professional if I were you!

I honestly just think that you gotta take a chance on it.
I've had my first holes ear piercing since I was 2 months old, and they still get infected (No doubt because I don't have any real earrings to my name sweatdrop )
I guess I can suggest you getting a very clean, non irritating metal for your nose, sterlize it as well if it is not already.
If you find that metal irritats you after it heals, then try other metals or possibly a plastic ring
